Doesn't necessarily mean he knows what's best for Star Wars, though. ^_~
Doesn't necessarily mean he knows what's best for Star Wars, though. ^_~
No, they finally removed them in 2004 although not in 1997.
And I thought about mentioning the blue elephant myself, but I wasn't sure if he was a puppet or a man in a suit. Plus, like you said, he's barely in it at all anyway, so he's hardly worth mentioning.
Wow, people actually try to rationalize something so unrationalizable (did I just make up a word)? Do lightsabers even have "stun" settings?
While you did make something of a concession, I still think you're overgeneralizing. I think most of the puppetry in Star Wars was top notch. Obviously you agree that Yoda is. Jabba the Hutt was also amazing. Probably the only puppet that wasn't quite up to snuff was Sy Snoodles in Return. But while the new version was quite a bit more animated, can you honestly say that it looked any more realistic?
Have any confirmation of that? I think most of us here are under the impression that the movies haven't been touched at all since the 2004 release.
True, but, then again, that's what we logically said about what ended up becoming the prequels as well... ^_~
Interesting description and valid reasons why the prequels shouldn't be seen before the originals... there's just no sense in viewing them that way. The only thing I have to take issue with is your mentioning of Sebastian Shaw. Even though it was only a joke, in a world where the PT came first, Shaw wouldn't be a nobody but still a venerated British actor.
EDIT: Whoops. I forgot the logistical problems of that too! Had the original trilogy been made in the last ten years, Sebastian Shaw wouldn't have even been alive to be in it! Same goes for Alec Guiness... well, he could have been in the first one but not the sequels. Hell, the entire cast would have been different since a 50 year old Mark Hamill wouldn't exactly be a fit a naive young farm boy. Oh, and Hayden, who wasn't born yet, couldn't have been Anakin in this fantasy "OT." ^_^
I just don't see any point for Star Wars or Star Trek to continue. Star Wars had two amazing movies, one good one, and three debatable ones, tons of novels and video games. After the prequel trilogy, there's really nothing else to do. There's no point in continuing to explore every single little nook and cranny in this galaxy. As much as I disagree with this statement, George seems to believe that Star Wars is the "Tragedy of Darth Vader." Even if that was true, he finished telling that story with the prequels. And as for Star Trek, I'm willing to give this new movie a chance, but I still think that franchise should give up the ghost as well. It's been around for forty years and encompasses six television series, ten movies (soon to be eleven), and also countless novels even though its creator has long been dead.
Just because I don't like the new things doesn't mean that I hate Star Wars and Star Trek. I just love them enough to believe that they should be given the dignified chance to end.
Yeah, I know I'm inspired to say, "Aww," every time I see the prequel trilogy. ^_~
What?! I suddenly feel like I have seanwookiee syndrome. Remember how he used to explore a body of work for the first time only to have someone closely connected to it almost immediately die? Well, a few months ago, I decided to re-read the two Jurassic Park books for the first time in ten years. And now... geez.
EDIT: Oh, and just a few weeks ago, I watched parts of Westworld for the first time. This is all my fault, isn't it?
Gee, that doesn't happen very often. I wonder if it was a specific post that did him in, or if he was simply banned for his entire body of work...
Having lived in Mississippi for most of my life, I guess I'm technically a southerner. That said, I can't stand the "word" y'all. And that said, I can't understand exactly how "ya'll" is an appropriate contraction. Could you explain that one to me, ferris? Please? ^_~
And all that said, your new sig line is hilarious.
I try not to get involved with the Politics thread (although I do read it frequently), but this thread just reminded me how irritating a lot of Obama supporters are, and I hope that's not a reflection on Obama himself. The most irritating example I remember happened a few days ago. I was going for a bike ride, and this car with a window rolled down drove past me, and a voice yelled out, "Obama!" After a few more seconds of observation, I realized that this guy was yelling out Obama's name to every car, pedestrian, and bike he passed on the road. I can't argue that it's bad to have enthusiasm for the presidential candidate you're supporting, but I agree with C3PX in that it seems like a lot of people are just yelling, "Obama" because it's the trendy thing to do. Hopefully I'm wrong in that observation because I have a feeling that by the end of tomorrow, Obama is going to be our new president. And hopefully that will work out well. But in the meantime, it'd be nice if people like Janskeet didn't command strongly suggest us to do something.
I don't really mind the "negative" comments so much as I do the redundancy. However, I take it in stride because a lot of the recent complaints are by relatively new posters who might not know that we beat that horse dead about three years ago! ^_~
I almost revived my old Marty McFly costume for work today, but it was just too damned hot for a t-shirt, overshirt, jean jacket, and down vest! I would have fried! So I didn't really do anything for Halloween this year.
And that's my Halloween story!
Sky, I still think you're missing the point of Johnny's question. Okay, here goes. I never saw The Clone Wars movie. I thought it was a stupid idea and a waste of time. I have yet to watch The Clone Wars cartoon. Maybe I would if I would ever remember/not be working when it's on, but it's not high on my to-do list. There. I have no love for this series. I have no reason to defend it. I'm not defending it if I ask, like Johnny did, why, when you hate a show as much as you obviously hate this one, do you continue to watch it? Once again, I'm not asking you this because I'm angry that you hate a show I love (because I don't love it) or confused that you hate the prequels (which I also don't love). It simply does not make sense to us that you would continue to devote time to something that makes you that angry. So again, finally, without a bone to pick or an axe to grind, I ask you:
If you hate this show, why not stop watching it?
With CG! Sorta how CG Jabba is smaller than puppet Jabba! But, yeah, that is gonna be kinda weird since Kirk died "fourteen years" ago, and William Shatner has aged significantly since then. They probably won't deal with the issue and just hope we suspend disbelief because it's so cool that the Shat is back in a Star Trek movie. I might be able to deal with that just as long as they manage to come up with a plausible way to get around the death issue, which, in my mind, is much more important than Shatner's appearance in '94 vs. '08.
Zombie is actually getting Secret History published?! Amazing! I've read that all the way through twice now, and one of the first things he says in the book is how the nature of it would probably keep it from ever being published! I'm glad to see he managed to work something out.
Star Wars '95 release's tagline was, "ONE LAST TIME."
The 2006 set says "Limited Edition" on the boxes and was said to be in print from September-December 2006.
So, yeah, limited comes into play in Star Wars...
Darth Chaltab said:It's not that big of a download, honestly. If you have a connection faster than 28 K, you should have no problem getting it.
Not if you're running Windows 98... *smiles sheepishly*
Yeah! Like hot women! Wait...
Well, actually, you're both wrong. The last time we heard swearing in Star Wars was in 2002:
"Cloners. Damn good ones too."
Well, I just spent the last week (finally) playing Mother 3 in English thanks to the fan translation! I've been looking forward to it for two and a half years, and I just can't understand why NOA refuses to throw a bone to Mother/EarthBound fans, especially when the series has gotten so much exposure through the Smash Bros. series. Ugh, I just don't understand. But whatever. I finally got to play it. It was wonderful. Everyone else should do the same. ^_^
I'm not sure what that has to do with whether or not Star Wars is boring to watch, but, um... okay. Sorry you feel that way.
Don't get me wrong, Tiptup. SM64 isn't my favorite Mario game, but it is pretty great. What I was really referring to was its legacy. Any time a new Mario game has come out in the past twelve years, it's compared to Mario 64, as it brought Mario to the 3D world with such finesse.
