Lucas is too busy to know what the fans want? That's total crap! It's not like he's constantly getting harassed by a billion fans who each want something totally different. If he would just make HD prints of the original films as available as the SE's, there would be no problem.

I mean, it's practically standard that the original be released with the new versions on DVD/BR (blade runner, alien, aliens, ect ect). Lucas is the only film maker I can think if who is suppressing the original versions.

Of course he's not getting harrased, but the man does have a life outside of Star Wars.

And unlike Blade Runner and Alien, which are products of the company's that distributed them, Star Wars is owned by Lucas and not FOX.  Therefore, Lucas does have the right to decide which editions are deemed the default editions.

I think it's just silly to whine about something you really don't have any control over, especially if it's someone else's movie.  Sure, you can re-edit or "despecial-editionize" the original trilogy to your heart's content, but that's not gonna stop the man who created Star Wars to begin with from making his films more to his satisfaction.

That doesn't mean I have to silently stand by and accept what he's doing.

Of course, you don't.  And I never said that you did.  I just think that it's kinda pointless to complain about something that someone else created.

Sorry to disappoint you, ChainsawAsh, but...I don't gamble ^^  And I think it's just silly to whine about something you really don't have any control over, especially if it's someone else's movie.  Sure, you can re-edit or "despecial-editionize" the original trilogy to your heart's content, but that's not gonna stop the man who created Star Wars to begin with from making his films more to his satisfaction.

Thankfully, he's kind enough to allow the fans to make fan-edits of his films so that they can a version that they be happy with.

And yeah, the reason most (such as myself) have a problem with the SE's is that they've replaced the original versions, which Lucas simply refuses to restore and release properly, unlike Ridley Scott (all 5 versions of Blade Runner available in 1080p on one Blu-Ray set), Spielberg (all 3 versions of Close Encounters, same thing), James Cameron (both versions of Aliens, Terminator 2, all three versions of Avatar, etc.), and other directors who are more than willing to make all official versions of their work available to the public in high quality.

If Lucas would only do that, we'd all stop bitching pretty damn quickly.

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I haven't complained once about the revisions.   The over-all story of the hero's journey is still the same, and I enjoy the films too much to focus on the little things that are wrong with them.  Theatrical, Special Edition or Revisited.  It's all good to me.  And if Lucas doesn't want to restore and release the the theatrical versions then it's not the end of the world.  It's his decision, and they are legally his movies.

Second, I noticed some time ago that just after Lando reveals his plan to escape from the Imperials at Cloud City, one of Leia's lines was cut out from the Special Edition and 2004 DVD. In the original release, Leia says “Do you think that after what you did to Han that we’re going to trust you?” In ’97 SE and afterward, however, all we can hear her say is “Do you think that after what you did to Han” before Chewie growls (quite loudly) and cuts her off. This has actually bothered me ever since I saw the SE in the theater for the first time. Ady, is there any chance of restoring the original dialogue here?

True. I don't even have to watch the film again to remember that one.
It sort of always stood out, clear as day.
You can clearly see her mouth still moving too.

Really?  I have the 2006 DVDs, and when I watch the 2004 Special Edition, I still hear Leia's line all the way through, even when Chewbacca roars and grabs Lando by the neck.  Either my TV has really good speakers or I must have her line embedded in my head to a point that I can still hear her say it even when muted...or maybe the sound comes through better when played in a Blu-Ray player.

...First of all, I noticed that when R2 is leaning back to observe the X-Wing being guided back onto land from the swamp, there is a light just below his dome that I’m not sure should be there. As he leans back, it seems to "blink" and disappear and then reappear again. I can’t tell if it’s just a sliver of light leaking from inside the “costume” or if it’s a reflection from the camera or something. Either way, I don’t think it belongs. What do you all think?

I could be mistaken, but I believe that yellow blinking like you see coming from below R2's dome is the light on the back of his dome that blinks yellow and green.  And since his dome can rotate 360 degrees, it is possible for it to peak out a little bit from within the very little gap between his dome and his hull.

It's really sad that we lost Irvin Kershner and Leslie Nielsen practically at the same time.

Ady, if it's not too late for suggestions, maybe in the ending credits of Empire Revisited, you could include a dedication to Irvin Kersher.  Just in simple text:

"This fan-edit is dedicated to Irvin Kershner, a man who made James Bond "never say never again," and gave Luke Skywalker a journey into his soul.  May we be forever grateful."

^I really don't think Palpatine would replace fleets of ships just to avoid upsetting Vader in fact I think he would get a few chuckles out of rubbing salt into those old wounds at every possible situation to keep the guy burning with rage.

Realistically the ships would have just become obsolete over time as new ships replaced them.

Even over the course of the OT we saw the Empire adding new fighters and making small adjustments to their capital ships.

If the Rebels hadn't stopped them they'd probably have a Death Star for each province and expanded the Empire out further.

It was just one explanation.  I also mentioned before that the old Republic vessels were remodeled into the Imperial Stardestroyers to remove any remnants of the old Republic.

This is just my honest opinion, but I don't think any of those Old Republic starships from Episodes 2 and 3 would have been necessary for ANH:R.  For one thing, Tarkin says during the briefing that "The last remnants of the old Republic had been swept away," and any vessel from the Clone Wars would be considered remnants of the old Republic.  Starships and Trooper army most likely underwent changes for this reason.  Also, Episode 4 already has plenty of links to Episode 3.  Luke and Obi-Wan's discussions on Tatooine are a good example, as well as the few but comprehensive mentions of the Senate.

And about the Alderaan explosion, I think Lucasfilms did do an appropriate job of it.  The explosion should be instantaneous.

What I assumed by that statement was that was *institutionally*... the army, navy and the stormtroopers are very obviously inherited from the Republic.

Yes, they were, an the statement was probably institution.  Also, I think that after Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader, he didn't want to have all those reminders of his old life: The senate, the republic vessels, etc.  Any reminder of who Vader used to be is also a reminder of Padme, and I'm sure the Emperor didn't want Vader to continue to obsess over his greatest lost.

You actually are repeating something that I brought up on June 13.

Here's a video I made based on the revised "Revenge" rough draft: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jt0c4o4Rr1M

Nice!  My dream version of SW Bonus Discs (on Bluray of course) would have custom crawls based on all the drafts.

That would be cool to see.  I read (from the annotated screen play book) that in the rough draft of Empire, Chewie and one of those Wampa's were going one-on-one with each other.  How cool would that be?

Maybe the lightsabers could constantly colorshift!

Like, Vader's could fade from red to pink and back again.  Maybe Luke's could switch between green and blue occasionally, just to keep things interesting.

Ooh! And maybe during the duel with Vader, Obi-Wan's saber could look purplish in a few shots!

Ooh!  And while we're at it, let's give the colors some patterns, like rainbow and candy cane.

In the original treatment for Revenge Of The Jedi there were TWO Death Stars being built as seen in this production painting :

two Death Stars

It might also be a fun addition to an alternative version to have Jejerrod being presurred into completing one Death Star (the one the Rebels know about) but the Emperor overseeing the construction of a different Death Star.

The audience is lead to expect that they are the same Death Star until Luke notices when looking out of the window as the station moves that the battlestation he is now on is not the one that the battle is taking place near.

Bypass the opening crawl, and I apologize in advance for the less than perfect after affects work.  I'm no Adywan :(

i've sort of fixed it. If you look at the scene a bit earlier in this sequence when Luke loses his balance and Yoda falls, well when you see Yoda get up that is actually the shot of him climbing up onto the mound to raise the x-wing, only they flipped it and moved it earlier. i've moved that back into its rightful place and just need to figure out what to use for the other shot now

Funny thing, Ady.  I did the the exact same thing with that shot when I made my edit of Luke successfully raising his X-wing.

the shot is at 1:10 of this clip

When there is no more room in hell these threads will walk the Earth.

Eh...um...okay?  What does that have to do with anything?

Sorry I wasn't mocking your mock-up I was merely commenting on the plethora of re-animated threads stomping the boards at the moment.

Nice little glimpsette of a film from another universe G E.

As you may know I'm kind of keen on reviving the abandoned two Death Star idea in a ROTJ edit (but with a twist).

Oh, I know you weren't mocking me.  I was just confused.  That's all.  I thought you were pulling a Jedi mind trick on me^^

I like ROTJ as is.  That's being said, I too would love to see a fan-edit with the reviving concept of more than one Death Star.

I'm sure this is the right forum for what I'm about to share with all of my fellow fans.  I made this based off of a copy of the revised rough draft that I found earlier today:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jt0c4o4Rr1M

I know the after effects are a little rusty.  I'm still new to AAE, and the idea was to re-create what might have been in the opening sequence.

Guys, and gals, I need a little help with something.  Okay, I got a new Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 Premium, which comes with Windows DVD maker and I tried to make myself a DVD copy of Star Wars revisited.  Well good news is, I got the entire movie on it.  Bad news is that the picture is stretched on the TV screen, worse part is that it didn't have any sound.

Am I doing something wrong?  Someone give me some advise, cause I got my new laptop a week ago, and I know how to work only about half the new features.

Ady, how about a new weekly still from ESB Revisited to look forward to? There are about 36 weeks left in the year. That would mean close to 30 some stills before the release in Dec. Is 30 some frames from a 2 hour movie too much to give out? It would be a great thing to look forward to once a week. I know we did it before. Just think about it, please.

Wow, don't you ever just give it a rest? please. I've released so much more stuff than i ever did with ANH:R yet you keep asking for more all the time. So, ok, here's a new still from the completed section of ESB:R, just for you ;)

That's the problem with some people, Ady.  You wow them with something spectacular, and they start to want more from you.

So it's up to the editor and the viewer.

So in other terms, it's all depends on a certain point of view?

Yes.  There's nothing in the OT that dictates a specific length of time between films, and I won't be adding anything of the sort, so if your "point of view" is that it's 3 years between Star Wars and Empire and a few months between Empire and Jedi, that's up to you, and there will be nothing in my edits that will contradict you.

But that's not my personal "point of view" on the matter.

Okay then.  Now that we got that matter settled with, we can talk about more important things?

I'm not trying to rush you or anything.  This question is strictly out of curiousity:  Do you have a release date for your "Star Wars" release of this Trilogy Edit?

Like I said, I downloaded VLC, and it plays perfectly on that.  Thank you again, Darth Editious.
