I did read about Disney and Lucasfilms working out a deal with 20th Century Fox to get the original theatrical versions released on HD Blu-Ray and DVD.  Knowing how Disney promotes their films, they may very well have them out in time for the release of Episode 7.

When did you read this, do you have a link to it? Was it just speculation, or was there some kind of inside information?

About a few weeks ago.  At the time, I found it, I was searching for a download link for Star Wars De-specialized Edition(mission accomplished BTW)

http://wegotthiscovered.com/blu-ray/theatrical-cuts-original-star-wars-trilogy-possibly-heading-bluray/#!btq9Ee

At this point, it's simply a rumor but it's highly plausible.

Which version/release of the Star Wars movies do you watch and why?
Time

Episode 1 - Official DVD and Blu-Ray releases, The Phantom Edit.

Episode 2 - Official DVD release.

Episode 3 - Official DVD release.

I'm also open to viewing other fan-edits of the prequels if anyone has some good recommendations.

Episode 4, 5 and 6 - All official released versions except Blu-Ray, Harmy's Despecialized Editions, Adywan's Revisited Editions.

My reasons for why I would watch these is because of a mix of love for the old, appreciation for the fan-edits and tolerance for most of the new.  Minus the CGI Yoda added to "The Phantom Menace" Blu-Ray and the elegant color correction, I'm convinced that the changes made for the Blu-Rays were pretty much a middle finger to the fan-base from Lucas on his way out the door.

Definitely poignant seeing Alderaan in "Episode III" not only because fans who saw the OT first (or at least "A New Hope" first) know that this would be their first and last glimpse of the world, (unless it appears again in "Rebels") but also they know that the little baby princess would grow up not knowing everything about her true heritage.

What Special Edition changes (if any) did people like?
Time

SPED changes I like in "Star Wars"

  • Extended shot of stormtroopers searching the desert with CGI dewbacks.
  • New shot of the sand crawler after "Look sir, droids!"
  • Most of the expanded Mos Eisley shots.
  • New Alderaan explosion.
  • Corrected perspective of the cell block corridor.
  • CGI X-wings during the Battle of Yavin.
  • Praxis shockwave added to Death Star.
  • Replacing the mat painting of extra soldiers in the throne room with real people.

SPED changes I like in "Empire"

  • Fixed transparent snowspeeder cockpit shots.
  • Replacing the chimp-faced emperor with Ian McDiramid (though the dialogue from the original should have stayed the same).
  • Adding windows to Cloud City.

SPED changes I like in "Jedi"

  • "Victory Celebration" replacing "Yub Nub" (but keep Sebastian Shaw as Anakin).

Hi!  I have returned from a long, LONG absence.

I'd like to start off with a public apology for my childish behavior years ago.  If you don't remember, it's best not to.  If you do, I promise it won't happen again.

You got a lot of guts coming here, after what you pulled.

JK, no clue what you did. But I do like your idea about just straight removing the 'lost the will to live' line and perhaps leaving her death more ambiguous. In TPM and AOTC Padme was shown to be a strong person, then by the time ROTS rolls around she becomes pregnant, sits around doing nothing, cries a lot and loses the will to live despite the fact that she has a brand new life to care for.

Considering all that happened she should have even MORE reason to live and protect her child.

LOL I see what you did there ^^ Very nice.  Let's just say I rode a high horse and then jumped down off of it.

Thank you, and I definitely agree.  She was a strong role model for women in episodes 1 and 2, and her daughter was the say way in the OT.  Also, given that she was about to bring two in lives into that galaxy, she has two very good reasons to keep on living.  If Padme had to die, at least it shouldn't be of a broken heart.

I seem to be in the minority here, but I'd change the Ben's hut scene back to the theatrical version.

You're not alone in that belief.  I also think Ben's Hut is better as it is in the theatrical version.  It makes more sense to have Obi-Wan talk to Luke about his father, give him his father's lightsaber and how his father died, then have R2 play the message and end it with Obi-Wan asking Luke to come with him to Alderaan.  They way Ady re-edited it makes the four characters seem to ignore Princess Leia's plea for help for a while to talk about Luke's father.

Welcome back! (though I don't know what happened ^.^)

interesting ideas, because it solves the "lost will to live" drama

though, to be seen is, if an editor wants Padme (or other name for Luke&Leia's mom) to die onscreen ...

and if it is "needed" to show the seperation of the twins - this could work better if we only see Obi-Wan carrying Luke to Tatooine, not showing Leia being the "other Skywalker" ;-)

on behalf of Anakin & Padme: much of the dialogue needs to be fixed - cut and/or rewritten - it's just bad ... the OT wasn't Shakespear, but it had flair (to throw a word into the pot)

Thank you.

Yeah, I definitely agree to that.

I also agree that Padme's death doesn't really need to be shown on screen.

Depending on how the editor thinks, the separation of the twins could be kept in tact.  I say this based on the high probability that more fans would show the original trilogy to new viewers first.  Also because Leia's delivery to Alderaan was our first (and so far only) glimpse at what the world looks like on planet.

LOL I know what you mean.  Sometimes I think it would be easier paying Hayden and Natalie to re-shoot those scenes.

Hi!  I have returned from a long, LONG absence.

I'd like to start off with a public apology for my childish behavior years ago.  If you don't remember, it's best not to.  If you do, I promise it won't happen again.

Now for my two cents in this forum.  For a small start in contribution, the scene in Episode III with the medical droids telling Obi-Wan and Bail Organa that Padme is dying, I feel some of those lines should be removed.  I think it would work better like this:

Droid - We are losing her.

Obi-Wan - She's dying?

Droid - We must operate quickly if we are to save the babies.

Bail - Babies?

Droid - She's carrying twins.

Simply remove the "lost the will to live" excuse and let the reason of her death be Anakin's Force Choke while she was in a delicate condition.

Also for Episode III, remove the "I'm so in love with you" scene between Anakin and Padme entirely.  After Grievous' talk with Sidous, we cut right to Anakin's nightmare.

Don't know of Ady would consider this, but a reason to back-up Leia remembering what little she does about her real mother could be that while she lived on Alderaan, her adopted father showed her holographic images of her mother from when she served in the Republic Senate.  It would similarly to the deleted second from "Episode II" when Padme talks about her childhood friends who died and Anakin sees moving images of them on the wall of her bedroom.

I don't think LF would be behind the disappearance of ANH:R on YouTube.  If that were the case, wouldn't they take down the various commercially available Episodes I-VI as well?

Lucasfilms had nothing to do with the disappearance of ANH:R disappearing from YouTube.  I took it down on my own freewill.  The first and last parts were blocked in a buttload of countries because of the main Star Wars theme.

I thought for sure that Lucasfilms owned the musical score to the films, but now I believe that is not the case.  The only way I could get around the videos being blocked is to either compose the music from scratch or alter the music pitch, and I don't want to mess with Adywan's fan-edit in anyway for whatever reason.

I am very sorry, everyone.

No need to be sorry. The way youtube is blocking so many videos now is just going to stop people from using it. I know that i will never be using it again and might even take all the videos from there completely. Thanks for letting us know G E Predator

You're welcome, Ady.

I assume there's some reason why Vimeo isn't being considered? It has a great reputation with folks who seem like the sorts that would hate facebook's compression modifications and you don't have to join a facebook group to see the content.

Yes, there is a reason.  Vimeo is worse than YouTube.  With them, your videos have to be 100% made by you.  In other words, home videos.  Anything else gets removed withing weeks.

I checked on one of my other videos containing Star Wars music, and it says that Sony Music Entertainment either owns or administers the soundtrack recordings.

Still, I was under the impression that Lucas owns every single copyright in regards to anything Star Wars...and that would include the musical score.  However, now I think that Sony owns the publishing rights to the music while Williams/Lucasfilms owns performing rights.

G E Predator, why don't you go here and read what this site is about and then if you still feel like coming back and repeating what you just said, why don't you also go to a mosque and start spreading the gospel there, while you're at it?

I wasn't "spreading gospel," I was just stating my opinion.  And no one was arguing.  I fully respect ChainsawAsh's opinon, and I was simply expressing my own without forcing it upon others.

Now that the minor debate is over...when Ady does a 720HD version, my only suggestions are restoring the spinning stars with the Falcon goes to lightspeed and removing this two elements: the trade federation droid head from the Jawa Sandcrawler and the electric flow on the torture droid's needle.  Other than those, I thought Ady did a superb job on the revisited.

And unlike Blade Runner and Alien, which are products of the company's that distributed them, Star Wars is owned by Lucas and not FOX.  Therefore, Lucas does have the right to decide which editions are deemed the default editions.

No one's suggesting that George's suppression of the original Star Wars trilogy is illegal; only that it's wrong.

From a certain point of view ^^
