Little surreal - Entertainment Weekly article on this:

That IS pretty surreal. Hard to say what kind of effect a major publication going to LFL for comment on these projects is going to have, though. Hopefully it will show them there is an interest in, and desire for, a proper restoration; and not just cause them to get all ‘cease and desist-y’

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

Harmy,

Just have to chime in here to say thank you for your hard work on this new version of Jedi. I’m really looking forward to showing the original trilogy to my daughter and god-daughter; and between Despecialized and Team -1’s releases (and the work of all people who worked on the sources!), I’m flush with options. Star Wars fans are in a far better position, compared to just a few short years ago 😄

Edit: But I will add one more teaser, just for the OT crowd.

This video was produced using this technique (plus a little post processing to clean it up a little more), and it only took about a week… It has not been color corrected.

Mind = blown! So beautiful!

Incredible how ‘right’ this looks!

I stumbled across this image in some article and it shows nicely how much more real the '97 CGI looks with some generational loss and 35mm colors. I think if TN1 do a 35mm transfer of the '97SE, like they said they eventually would, it could be a great resource for anyone wanting to do any kind of semi-specialized edition.

I love the work you've done. It's a historic undertaking. The samples you've posted look great, and I can't wait to see the final product in full glory.

However, I must say I'm not such a big fan of this subdividing the member base of this forum into one elitist group that can see the preview, and others who can't. For a while I was thinking how can I get into the group that get's to see the preview? How can I get on Team Negative1's good side? Then I thought this is ridiculous. I don't want to have to meet all kinds of demands to watch a preview. I'm passionate about Star Wars, just like any member on this forum. If that's not good enough, that's fine. I will wait for the final release.

Exactly What he said^ being passionate about Star Wars should be the only reason for a "reward" that is why we are all here, not one Star Wars fan is better than another and we have all supported this 100%.

You're right that no one fan is better than another, but a lot of people donated to this project when it was in it's infancy. It's my understanding that everyone will get this preview, but that early supporters will merely get it first.

I agree that it's a bit weird that both of these items seemingly has such an importance to the plot, but hopefully they will have an interesting explanation for Kylo Ren's interest in them.

If the spoiler site is accurate, it's a reasonable assumption that Kylo Ren is Rey's brother - making Vader his grandfather. It's not so weird that he would want Vader artifacts in that context. The saber was Vader's before it was Luke's.

The novelizations of the seven films--including The Clone Wars--are canon.

Del Rey said:

To clarify, movie novelizations are canon where they align with what is seen on screen in the 6 films and the Clone Wars animated movie.

If the novels are only canon where they align with the film, doesn't that ultimately make the novels "non" canon, and the films the final word on what is canon?

Officially, this is what's canon since the Disney merger:

 • Original Trilogy
 • Prequel Trilogy
 • Sequel Trilogy
 • The Clone Wars (2008 movie & TV series - includes the 4 unfinished eps)
 • Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir (comic)
 • A New Dawn (novel)
 • Rebels (TV series)
 • Tarkin (novel)
 • "One Thousand Levels Down" (short story)
 • "Blade Squadron" (short story)

And everything else that comes out from now on.

The 2003 Clone Wars cartoon is no longer canon (the 2008 series contradicts it too many times, I think). I don't think it's been officially stated which versions of the films are canon, but I'd assume it's the most recent Blu-Ray releases.

Which would, unfortunately, mean that Jedi Rocks is canon.

Sorry.

Which means that when Greg Dean says that hilted lightsabers have been 'canon' for years, and everyone who doesn't like it are just ***h*les - he is dead wrong and he should be looking in the mirror if he's looking for an ***h*le :-)

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)
Time

Just watched the 2.0 MKV and it's stellar. Fantastic job, Harmy! I would truly love to see Disney/LFL do a proper restoration of the OT from the original negs/elements, but I gotta say that it gets less and less vital to me with each new restoration. This looks fantastic, and just feels 'right'. Feels like I'm 11 and seeing it in the theatre again, and I probably haven't felt that way since the original VHS release. I didn't even feel that way in the theatre in '97 during the re-release :-D

Do they own it though? It was my understanding that Fox still owns the original movie. Disney bought Lucasfilm and the rights to all sequels, new prequels, reboots and spin offs to Star Wars and Indiana Jones, but I don't think they own the original films.

20th Century Fox controls all theatrical and home video distribution of both Star Wars Trilogies, and they own A New Hope in perpetuity.

Fox own 'distribution rights' to I-III and V and VI until 2020. They own 'distribution rights' to IV in perpetuity. George owned the films from Empire on, and he made a deal to get back ownership of IV when he signed the distribution deal with Fox for the prequels. Disney now owns all the films, but will need to make some kind of deal with Fox over distribution.

The Phantom Menace 15th Anniversary
Time

A group of about a dozen of us lined up in the afternoon to see the first midnight show. Around 6pm we started getting bored, and went in groups of 6 to the pool hall across the street for drinks. By 10pm I started thinking I had too much to drink, and if I continued I wouldn't enjoy the film. About 15 minutes into the film, I realized that my friends who continued drinking we're the only ones having anything resembling a good time :-D

Ask the member of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church AKA Interrogate the Catholic ;)

Well, I'm Buddhist, so I truly no longer have a horse in this race, but I would suggest that Christians actually have a worse understanding of Satan post Old Testament. His role in the OT is clear, the being g*d uses to test mankind (but only with g*d's explicit permission, Satan does nothing to Job that g*d doesn't give him permission to do). Satan's role in the NT has been greatly exaggerated.

But he's completely on the money about Lucifer being a reference to the planet Venus (yes, even in Isaiah) and not some supernatural boogyman.

Sure, maybe he is, but he doesn't seem to understand that just because the devil was not thought of as an individual until later doesn't mean that he can be discarded as a fantasy on that basis. Just because the earth was thought of as being flat for so long doesn't mean that we can still say it's flat because it was only commonly accepted as being round a few hundred years ago. Our understandings of things change over time, but that doesn't mean the former ideas were correct.

The Earth was known to be a sphere since at least ancient Greece. This few hundred year idea (and that Columbus disproved it) is a myth, as is Lucifer as a being. "Lucifer" was never kicked out of heaven. The verse in Isaiah is speaking of the fall of a Babylonian king and comparing him to the planet Venus. All New Testament talk of Lucifer/Satan/War In Heaven is based solely on a misunderstanding of Isaiah 14:12

All Old Testament references to 'Satan' (Job) depict him as a being with free access to heaven, and having absolutely zero power/influence that doesn't come from g*d.

Lucifer for example is literally the Morning Star (the Planet Venus) the light of which is banished by the Sun. It was a Roman pagan religious ornament woven into the early Christian church like the whole Osiris worship bag you guys have over Mary/Diana/Ishtar.

Things like this make me wonder if you know what you are talking about. Christians have never worshiped Mary. We pray to her to ask her to pray for us as is embedded in the Hail Mary ("pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death"). It's very similar to asking someone on earth to pray for you. It isn't worship.

See Bingo here is why I question your research. If your research was really complete and non-biased you'd understand how the Catholics view Mary without RicOlie_2 having to explain to you.

Also Bingo, not all Christians view Mary the way Catholics do.

But he's completely on the money about Lucifer being a reference to the planet Venus (yes, even in Isaiah) and not some supernatural boogyman.
