Has anyone tried fixing the hdr/Dolby vision color grading uhds of the evil dead 1981 and evil dead 2?

What was wrong with the color grading?

Evil dead 2 has red push on the uhd blu ray evil dead 1’s uhd might be too warm and not the intended look because ever other editions of it had a cooler look so it might be a case where one of two things happened it now it has the intended look or they altered it and now the Moody color timing is gone. 😦

Looking For: Back To The Future Trilogy in 35mm
Time

Actually shots like these https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&d1=14854&d2=14678&s1=154639&s2=151989&i=5&l=0 and chromatic error causing color to bleed on a part of the guitar. the grain reduction happened because hdr was done incorrectly on all three films valeyard said. also the thread starter is a little wrong. the only films that had it done the badly was back to the future 1 and 2. three has it noticeable in two scenes which yes I still think it should be fix but it isn’t as egregious. Back to the future trilogy deserved the same care as the karate kid trilogy actually more so because the third karate kid film isn’t that great. yes I know different studio. all three back to the future films are fun I heard the encoding might be the issue with the uhd bttf trilogy set.

However, I agree with AniStar that the cleanest solution is to just remove that line from ROTJ. Are we really so purist that we need to destroy the whole thematic value of ROTS’s ending just to avoid cutting even a single line from the OT?

Indeed.

“Do you remember your mother, your real mother?”
“Why are you asking me this?”
“I don’t remember my mother.”

Very simple, doesn’t lose much of the original’s meaning, and without destroying the thematic structure of another movie in the series. If one is to cut “jealous Han” later in that scene, they might as well cut Leia’s contradiction.

I guess this is the best way to make it work. yes it gets rid of each of the twins knowing one of their parents but Lucas didn’t leave fans any other logical choice to make sense of it without going into ridiculous territory sadly.

IMO the biggest problem with removing Padme’s death is how, if you watch it in chronological order, it doesn’t work. We’re left with Padme being alive and then she isn’t addressed for two whole films before it’s just unceremoniously said she died.

This lucas’s fault in the end leia having memories of padme is a plot hole that didn’t have to be. I know what he originally was going for before he decided to have padme die giving birth to Luke and leia. it was for Luke to be the one that gets to the know the father he never knew and leia to know the their mother each know one of their parents but revenge of the sith ruins that.

Wow, everyone getting ahead of me haha, that was going to be in one of the new clips in a more holistic post about what I’ve been doing with this edit.

I wanted to come back to this with more to show but not even a few days after I started work on it again, this thread got bumped (and now this lol)! Well, whatever. Yeah, I’m back at this. I dug up my old laptop’s drive and have been going through and syncing/re-sourcing files, redoing edits, etc.

I’m hoping it will be the final version so I can finally put this old edit to bed. And then back to OLD BEN and COAXIUM BEBOP, I swear

  • 1080p
  • Tone down the extra audio additions by like a third
  • Tone down the sillier stuff (to tighten pacing, as well as being over some of it. No more extended elevator antics or excessive droid talking, for example)
  • De/re-score parts of the film; let the film breathe a bit, make a more compelling tone throughout
  • No more color grade, or at least a subtler one

If there’s anything about this edit I was most proud of, it was how much I was able to change Anakin/Obi/Padme’s motivations in the story, and I think that may have gotten lost in the all the other ambitious stuff I was cramming in and experimenting with. So I want to just focus on polishing presentation of those elements now, and not just keep throwing shit at the wall. Like I said, I’ll have a more holistic post at some point this month.

EDIT: Also I was never going to add TCW footage this

So what are you adding to this new version of your revenge of the sith edit?

FAN EDIT REQUEST THREAD - Post your dream Fan Edits Here!
Time

Zarius edit of Superman: Brainiac Attacks Superman tas risk and
Revelation that lines it up with the dcau but with some more minor adjustments to make it perfect like still having Lexopolis mentioned The only issue that I had with it editing-wise is that some of the transitions/dissolves are way too fast and would have needed a bit more space to breath. Namely: Clark throwing his glasses in the trash bin to Supes arriving in the Arctic, Super-Computer scene to Supes first entering the Phantom Zone, and first Lex Scene to back in the Phantom Zone. With more room to breath at those spots I’d call this edit perfect.

Technically, it has the issue of the audio being too low for some reason. I had to raise the volume way up to watch it. Video looks fine, no artifact whatsoever, but it appears to be an 8bit export and not a 32bit one, so image is overall darkened and the darkest spots are flattened.

These are the issues a reviewer mentioned with this edit if these were resolved it would make this flawed movie a decent episode of the series I hope someone considers doing it one day if not I understand just asking that’s thank you.

What needs to be shown is what happens when you take the 60 FPS version and take it back down to 24 to cut back into the movie. I imagine the effect will be pretty much the same as it was originally.

I tried this while working on ESB:R. The results weren’t great. In many cases the effect looked worse than the original stop motion. You are losing so many frames going from 60 to 24. I tried halving the frames and then interpolating them back to 24 and it worked a little better but , even when going from 24 to 60, you get weird artefacts where the program tries to interpret the missing frames and causes horrible results. There is one shot in ESB:R that ended up in the final version ( the TaunTaun shot running across from right to left just before it stops on the ridge and we first see Luke) In the end i used added motion blur to just the stop motion objects to smooth out the stop motion and this worked better than using the frame interpolation method. I have used the same method on the holo table creatures in ANH:R HD

I really don’t see the obsession of this whole 60fps interpolation thing. why do people think this looks better, when all it does is eliminate any filmic look and gives the horrendous " soap opera" effect. Everything looks fake. It also makes the models lose the intended scale. Looking at that clip, the AT-AT’s now look like small models , especially the closeup shot of the head, and the Rancor, which wasn’t even a stop motion creature anyway, has lost its scale and looks like a small puppet.

If there’s a way to improve the motion without the fast forward soap opera effect look that would be awesome.

There was a scene that seems to be lost after Peter is found out to be the person that cut of the cable and that joke has never been restored it was kind of a gay joke. It makes me wonder how much of early family guy is censored on dvd.

Let me have a look

The one joke I don’t know if it was deleted or censored but it was a gay joke and it was in episode 2.

Superman II the Richard donner cut comes out on uhd blu ray next year we have to rely on the fans to update. 😦

Really wish they could get the legal issues sorted out (yeah right, lol) and finally remaster and release the tv broadcast since it has a lot more Donner stuff (and IMO, better takes regarding the actor’s performances and b.g. music).

Is this in regards to Superman 2 if so that’s disappointing to hear.

It would have higher res textures and maybe more real-looking movements and expressions. This would apply to any older CGI model that got updated years later. I’m not sure why the question is about Yoda specifically. We can imagine what a 2022 CG model of Yoda would look like, but it’s not like we can describe the details of it, since it doesn’t exist.

Is there a fan that can show an example of what he would look like for example corridor crew?

You’d have to ask someone like the guys at Corridor Crew. But they’d need a reason to create that. And that would still just be a fan creation, and wouldn’t be up to par with what the VFX industry can create today. At best, it would only look slightly better than the prequel Yoda model, if even that.

I wish one the prequels were actually popular and two that Disney was the kind of studio that would update the prequels effects if it was oh well. 😦
