Info Wanted: Best source for the Mos Eisley speeder pass-by shot?

Looking at all these great caps only make me more upset at Lucas for holding back an original transfer on bluray.

Yeah, at this point, it's awfully clear that all the talk about the original "not looking good" is just a bunch of corporate bullshit. This print is looking pretty good for something that may be several generations down the line. Even if George has ruined the masters, the original versions are clearly safe as long as there are prints out there.

The music of the Original Trilogy vs the music of the Prequel Trilogy
Time

I do like the music of the PT a lot, even if it never feels as groundbreaking as that of the OT.

Apart from the cues mentioned by DavidBrennan, I do think "Padme's Ruminations" and the Order 66 lament (I'm not sure what track on the released CD this belongs to - is it "Anakin's Betrayal"?) rank as some of the best pieces of the whole saga.

In fact, the Order 66-scene is the only scene from the PT that actually moves me, to the point where I might even shed a tear or two. Even if George's direction and editing during that scene are uncharacteristically brilliant, I've narrowed the reason for this down to the score. It's an incredibly emotional piece of music, and that's what John Williams does at his very best. Makes me sad over the deaths of the most two-dimensional of characters. If only there had been more pieces like that in the PT.

The BluRay set includes the THX Optimizer, which (in the future) will communicate with THX Optimized TVs, Players, and Recievers to alter your home viewing experience to exactly what George intends it to be...

I wonder if future versions will seek out copies of Harmy's version on your hard drive and delete them.  Or worse yet, change them.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm snapping here, but I really wish more people would get that the GOUT is not an ideal reference when it comes to the colours.

Harmy is attempting to recreate the theatrical version of Star Wars here. The colour timing of the original theatrical release was very different to what we have since seen on home video. Look through the thread and you'll see that same thing written over and over. The original theatrical colour timing was also notoriously inconsistent, so you will likely see colour errors in this version that are completely intentional on Harmy's part.

You cannot compare Harmy's colours with the GOUT, cause the latter is a desaturated mess which, colour-wise, has nothing to do with the way the film appeared originally.

Hmm... well, I'm no authority on this (I just like to meddle :P), but Harmy didn't really have any proper theatrical references when he made version 1.0, did he? Subsequent discussions have shown that Star Wars did have some odd colour "issues" from the very beginning.

I don't think that shot of R2 looks wrong per se; if you look at this photo from the Senator screening, the greenish tint is definitely there.

I do know that a photo of a theater screen isn't an ideal reference, but if that photo is at least close to how it's supposed to look, I'd say Harmy knows what he's doing.

It's worth noting that, as far as I have read, everyone with access to proper prints of the original theatrical version of "Star Wars" agree that the colours were all over the place to begin with. Harmy's reconstruction is going to look wildly inconsistent, because that's just the way it was. In that respect, even the pre-DC LDs seem to have had a certain amount of correction applied to them.

So if you're looking for 100% grey Death Star walls or realistic colours, this may not be the project for you to begin with. I'm personally looking forward to seeing this version, cause... well... I never have!

Not to nitpick, but if we are following the colors of the LD, that lightsaber is much too saturated.

As far as I've understood from lurking around here, the theatrical release featured way more vibrant lightsabers than what we've been subjected to ever since. Apparently, Luke's saber was never white in '77. Inconsistent, probably. But never completely desaturated.

Cool, I didn't know about this and I am a pretty enthusiastic adventure gamer. I loved all the old Sierra classics including Space Quest. Will download and check this out!

Hope you enjoy it, man! And in light of the GIF above, I'd better point out that I don't mean that as a threat...

For nearly a decade, myself and a lot of awesome people have been working our butts off on what is now the first full-length sequel to Sierra's classic sci-fi/comedy Space Quest-series since it was cancelled back in the late 90's. It's called Vohaul Strikes Back, and you can download it for free here.

If you like the classic adventure games of developers like Sierra, LucasArts or Revolution Software, chances are you'll like VSB as well. So let me just say that I hope you'll enjoy the game - here's a little Star Wars-inspired proof-of-concept to win you over:

Finally, you're very welcome at our forum. And for any fans of Space Quest, let me just stress that this is only the beginning!

Fact is, he has been using that excuse numerous times before. That's the excuse that has graced us with stuff like rocks in front of R2, the turd that is CGI Jabba, Jedi Rocks, Darth Vader screaming "NO!" and a dead Hayden Christensen eyeing the woman who's supposed to be his daughter. I wouldn't be surprised if he's still spewing out this crap.
