Fair point, very fair. The difference between mono and stereo is one thing, but I’d think it excusable to present a downmix for home video. I don’t think Dolby Atmos has even reached our homes yet, has it?

I don’t know why people are surprised… Sound mixes are always remixed for home cinemas on Bluray.

I have yet to sit down and watch my Blu-ray, but I’m pretty disappointed that the BD lacks the theatrical Dolby Atmos mix. Did anyone here see it in Atmos? None of the theaters near me are set up for Atmos (other than my home theater 😉).
I did, if my memory serves me correctly. I don’t remember the details because I only watched it the once, but I’m sure I saw it in Atmos. I distinctly recall certain effects emitting from the far corners of the theatre.

Well I don’t refer to it by Episode IV, I just call it “A New Hope” when I do.
Is it just me, or does 2.7 have more artifacts than 2.5? Like at 42:22-42:26 as Obi-Wan moves his head the artifacts around it are visible and move as well. But again, it could have also been his way in 2.5, I don’t have a copy right now so I could’nt verify it.
Otherwise, especially color-wise, I see a huge improvement. Awesome work!I have no problems with people pointing out stuff like this. But I would request that people do please try to make the comparison before bringing it up, just to make sure that we can focus discussion on things that are definitely occurring. There are a bit of artifacts in this shot for both versions. Overall, I do not think 2.7 has more throughout the film since it was made from the same master using the same settings. But yeah, as far as blu-ray shots, those artifacts you point out are the most noticeable in the entire film for me and I’ve seen them in a variety of different encodes. I don’t know if it’s a matter of the VBR being low for the very low-movement shot and then needing to rapidly ramp up for the wipe or what.
I haven’t noticed anything watching that shot.
A few months ago, Caddicarus released an episode of “Caddy’s Film Fridays” in which his girlfriend’s daughters answered questions about Star Wars. Unfortunately I’m convinced they were exposed to the Special Edition, and that makes me sad. 😦 Caddy even refers to the film as “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope”! Mind you… it’s not like he had a choice, did he?..
Disney… sigh. This is what we get for liking your films? They should have been classic! But instead, they’re all worthless! About as worthless as this Episode II poster I have back here! In fact, just thinking about this makes me feel like having an anal evacuation!!
