Why isn’t this thread called “Ranking Star Wars Fan Films”? I’m confused.

How does this affect my ranking in the Ranking OT.com members thread?

Sure, it’s cynical, but I still think that even young Lucas had a habit of presenting himself the best way possible, not as much as in his later years, but this behavious surely didn’t came from nowhere. So whenever things worked out in his favor, intentionally or unintentionally, he sold them as part of his “original vision”.

Regarding your original point, I don’t agree. I saw the OT at the age of 8, TPM at 10, and AOTC and ROTS at 11 and 14, respectively. And while I loved all these movies the first time I watched them, only my love for the OT, and Star Wars in particular, lasted for more than 2 or 3 years. So while Star Wars appeals to children and adults alike, the PT is intentionally aimed at children/teenagers, but loses this appeal for many people when they grow up.

The first step to figure out was Lucas’ original vision was is to disregard anything he said in interviews, as he only talks about his Original Vision™, i.e. stuff that he thinks makes him look like a brilliant writer and director. That’s where this “I had it all planned from the beginning” myth comes from.

Where would you say does this thread rank in comparison to his other threads?

Because if they introduced the master of the main villain as a hologram in the second part of the trilogy, people would complain that VIII would be a carbon copy of ESB.

Because gravity’s attractive force pulls everything together. New particles approach from all possible directions randomly. the average shape of this is a sphere. Also, a sphere has the smallest surface for a given volume and surfaces are instable, so reducing the surface leads to a more stable state (for this reason soap bubbles are round, too).

If you plan to replace Obi-Wan’s krayt call in ARH, you could use that as Luke’s scream. Or a couple of Wilhelm screams.

Well, I guess I just didn’t care that much about the lightsaber. The movie was not about finding it, but since it more or less coincidentally ended in Rey’s hands, it was more like a nice bonus.

We see him for about five minutes and there is no reason for him to tell Poe (or Kylo) about Rey, so I really don’t see the problem. And saying that having a crucial part of the map to Luke is “only a tenuous association” is an understatement.

Also Han wasn’t taking Rey to some spaceport, he was taking her to Maz. She is Han’s connection to the Resistance. I don’t remember Han even thinking about any other place to go.

Well where did he get the map fragment? I assume that Luke had given it to him, so it wouldn’t faze me at all if Luke had also given him his old lightsaber. It’s a lot more reasonable than Maz having it.

We are still talking about Anakin’s lightsaber here. Luke didn’t have it, as far as we know. Why would he give up his self made lightsaber from Return of the Jedi?

To your other point: I don’t recall if Maz knew where the Resistance was located. If she knew, why were there agents from both sides among the regulars? It makes me think that Maz had a reputation for being a neutral party. Also, I don’t think Han wanted anything to do with the Resistance before the Hosnian catastrophe. Finn and Rey knew where the Resistance was. They were just there for a ship, they didn’t need Maz’s help.

Just because Maz knows where the Resistance is, doesn’t mean she works for them. She obviously knows Leia and due to her knowledge about the Force, she may have met Luke, so that he can learn some Jedi history from her.
Han doesn’t want to face Leia, he wants someone reliable to bring the droid to the Resistance. this means he isn’t looking for some random passage on a spaceship, he’s looking for a trustworthy pilot and he knows that Maz can find him such a pilot. It’s not a coincidence that Han goes to Maz.
