Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

So the computer is up and running but I don't have legally activated Windows yet, because I ordered it slightly cheaper from a different company and it hasn't arrived yet - but hopefully it should arrive today or tomorrow at the latest. Meanwhile, now would be ideal time to test the HDDs but I really don't know how to go about it.

That's not a problem, you can download official ISO of your version from Microsoft and install it now, you have like 30 days to enter product key.

Okay, if you don't need SSD or GPU, you should be just fine with your build. However IMO we can make it better:

1. Seasonic PSU

http://www.czc.cz/seasonic-s12g-550-550w/145290/produkt

It's a solid product, from trusted company. A little more expensive than the other one, but saving money on PSU isn't a good idea.

2. Make sure your RAM will fit under the custom CPU cooler. These things are huge and take a lot of space on the mobo. Kingston's radiators aren't very tall, so I think it won't be an issue, but you can't be too careful.

3. Consider getting another case. $25 cost of this one makes me very suspicious about it's quality. Remember that all cases are standardized, ATX is around since 1995. The case you buy now can be used for several other builds in the next 15 years. $25 cases tend to cause problems with heat, and often become noisy after 1-2 years of usage. You know, that annoying vibrating sound coming out of nowhere, which stops for 10 minutes after you kick the damn thing. ;)

I recommend Coolermaster and NZXT cases in particular.

Isn't GPU important for your work? Nvidia's CUDA would probably be useful. Overheating really isn't the problem it used to be. If you get good CPU cooler, case, and some fans, I doubt you ever have a problem with it.

Also, absolutely go with 256GB SSD. They offer significant boost in overall computer performance. It may not do much for rendering/editing, because of small capacity, but you'll be using this computer on a daily basis (I think?). Having the whole thing boot up in a few seconds is awesome.

I'll try to improve this build in a few hours.

I don't see any problem with Backblaze's results. They had a lot of drives and they simply said how they performed.  This Henry Newman's accusation is ridiculous.

"The oldest drive in the list is the Seagate Barracuda 1.5 TB drive from 2006. A drive that is almost 8 years old!"

Beautiful manipulation. ONE Seagate out of 13000 is 8 years old. There there was a specific column for age. Statistically oldest drives they have are WDs.

Add to this that the Seagate 1.5 TB has a well-known problem that Seagate publicly admitted to, it is no surprise that these old drives are failing.

ALL 1.5TB Seagates have a well-known problem. Which means they openly admitted,  their HDDs are unreliable.

Aside for that, I had some personal experience with Seagate. Three Barracudas 7200.12 1TB. Two of them worked two years, the other one year and a half. Meanwhile, almost 10 year old 400 GB Hitachi is fine with 0 bad sectors. Maybe it's anecdotal evidence or bad batch, but don't be surprised when your Seagate gain 500 bad sectors overnight. :)

team negative1 - star wars 1977 - 35mm theatrical version (Released)

Since half of your post is referring to me. Yes, I picked on Mr. Verta. I said way too much, but I was frustrated and had a pretty good basis. I'm pretty sure I read everything he posted on ot.com and a good portion of his forum.

But you imply I'm useless and "don't contribute", even though you know absolutely nothing about me. How nice. You know, whenever I can help with something here, I do it.

Oh, why do I bother posting. I'll shut up until I get my own Star Wars print, like all the other cool guys.

Keep in mind that Mike's very open about his identity,

Exactly. If what he does is illegal, and could get him in trouble, why isn't he keeping low profile? He probably assures a lot of people 3 times a day, that he's never going to release it, okay. But his behavior is mind-boggling to me. Team negative1's stuff will probably still need a couple of years, maybe it won't even be ready in 2076. But they post a lot of samples, you can see the progress. And you know, that this whole thing won't be kept in the vault for undefined amount of time. All the people saying "you're cool, Team Negative1" do it, because they can picture how finished project is going to look, and how much work is put to it. Meanwhile, we (majority of OT.com) know very little about what Mr. Verta is really doing. His sources are better than everyone else's. And that would be it. He didn't even do anything to prove it. Maybe he showed something to more important people from here, but not to me. And it's me, who's supposed to register on his forum and follow the project for the next 20 years.

Letting everyone know that Star Wars is in good hands is one thing. Coming by once in a couple of years to say "Hi, go check my forums!" is another.
