Nah, the Plinkett reviews had excellent presentation and idiotic arguments.
That’s bait. 😁

My original point with the RLM tangent was that the criticisms of the prequels were mostly correct. No one has really disagreed with that, just disliked the presentation.
The criticisms are soo true and precise that when friends would ask me “What do think of the prequels?” I would just send them those videos. It was a relief at the time to have those around…saved me about 3 hours of ranting. Someone use to have edits on youtube of the RLM reviews where they cut out all the odd Plinkett skits…far more digestible.

Has the cancellation been officially confirmed? All of the articles i’ve seen floating around are quoting from the same site that originally posted this “scoop” which only claimed that their “sources” told them. Haven’t seen anything coming from Lucasfilm or Disney about this.
Nobody is swooping in from Disney to handle the damage control or say otherwise. Isn’t this how Rogue Squadron, BOBF season 2, and Lando were canceled? Why would they admit public failure so often and officially? The ratings completely dropped as the show kept airing…the lowest of the SW shows. They did the same with Willow. 🤷♂️
FINALLY, all conversations about the awful show can dissappear into obscurity along with TBOBF. A second season would just re-new all the arguing and labeling.
I agree with this but it won’t happen. The pre-1999 people like me are a vanishingly small minority. Maybe until some zoomers put out some 3 hour video essays about it, but that seems unlikely.
Wouldn’t it include the entire Prequel-hating side of the fandom?
It could but that group is also really small now. Through a combination of memes, fondly-remembered video games, reevaluations by contrarians, childhood nostalgia for millennials, and Filoni shows, they successfully did a rehab job on the prequels. It’s a mix of people who liked the EU and all the tie-ins with prequel stuff, people who think The Clone Wars “fixes the prequels”, people who grew up with them and don’t care, people who enjoy the bad parts as “so bad it’s good” so that they like the whole thing, people who like them as “Lucas movies” as contrasted with the sequels, or people who changed their minds due to watching video essays or learning about how people were really mean to Ahmed Best and Jake Lloyd.
The high point of prequel hate was the Red Letter Media reviews but those got dissected to death, and modern RLM can’t muster very much edge or anger anymore.
I couldn’t have put it better myself…perfectly put Vlad! 👌
Anakin: “I killed them. I killed them all. They’re dead, every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children, too. They’re like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals. I HATE THEM!”
Padme: “To be angry is to be human”.
That’s actually peak comedic timing.
Oh wow lol…thank you for posting that!
There was a time when I was against the idea of “they should just do gritty stuff like Rogue One and Andor and the EU and nothing else,” but even I’m starting to gravitate towards that mindset now. I think prioritizing all ages (kids) is no longer a viable option. Kids today barely have the attention span for a tiktok video now, let alone a movie, and nobody buys toys anymore.
And it’s not like The Acolyte was for kids…nobody is sure who that show was supposed to be catered to…just bad fanfic turned into a 180 million dollar reality.
I’m also, of the opinion that most of the recent stuff isn’t even salvageable through “editing”. Most of the content is so empty to begin with that there is not much to enjoy after all the tight cutting anyway.
This entire site exists because of complaining and hating on the Lucas special editions and the prequels and trying to fix them. If you put up all the same stuff everyone here said like 10 or 15 years ago and added some clickbait headlines and thumbnails you people would call them Hateful Toxic YouTube Grifters.
I’ve been here since the start. It was created to preserve the OT beyond DVD rips and to highlight fan edits.
Great write-up Acbagel!
Unfortunately I don’t think simply making “a little something for everyone” (i.e. different things for different people) is enough to unite the fandom, as each group generally seems to think Star Wars should only be made for their tastes specifically (even if not everyone admits it). Doesn’t help also that a ton of YouTubers nowadays make an entire living from hating Star Wars, no matter what it does.
Of all the groups you mentioned, I’m in the one that you described as “not very protective, fine with whatever direction Disney takes.” I honestly think at this point they should just keep doing whatever they’re doing, cause people will get mad no matter what. There was a time when even ESB was divisive, ffs!
Keep it crap because of some youtubers? Toxic youtubers are that undefeatable? That we have to just keep the quality bar low or random because Nerdrotic exists on youtube? They absolutely do not matter compared to the legacy of a 50 year old and going franchise.
When Andor came out most of them were praising the quality of the writing, acting and directing. I can only remember SW Theory didn’t like it because there were no Jedi and he thought bricks were not appropriate for the universe. Quality speaks for itself. If they “keep doing what they’re doing” then ratings will keep dropping and there will, honestly, be something worth critiquing for course correction needs.
And considering just two days earlier Anakin was fighting to save the Republic and taking out actual bad guys…just feels way off that he could do that so quickly. “The Jedi are evil!” …but dang Anakin, not the 5 year olds haha.
If George had set up that Anakin was a sort of “Force fortune teller” and frequently had visions and dreams that came true…then maybe the whole thing with his dreams of Padme dying would have had some weight to them. But without that it just seems like he’s overreacting on everything. I get why he knew his mother was in trouble because of the biological connection and he’s super powerful. But that would have been neat if the Jedi were always asking him to meditate on future events and report what he sees…because he’s mostly, if not always, right. But oh well.
The director said Rey is the heart of Star Wars and all the fandom menace are losing their darn minds. Despite the fact that Luke passed the lightsaber in the sequel trilogy, the whole point of making those movies was Luke passing the torch so to speak. The Disney trilogy isn’t getting retconned and Luke’s story purpose has been given to Rey, to those fans who object to this hoping for a retcon or a Luke academy series walk away Star Wars died ten years ago for you.
I’m not gatekeeping I’m just pointing out a simple fact that those type of news channels if you can even call them that are totally obtuse about.
I not super excited for this film to be honest but I want to keep an open mind and heart. I hope the trailer when it arrives is good and maybe even my nieces might like it.
I’m not at all interested in the politics of how things are made or what have you I just want to enjoy Star Wars. I have to avoid those channels in my feed the algorithm promotes.
I agree. Whether people like it or not, Rey is Luke’s spiritual successor, and Luke was the original heart of the franchise (it was initially supposed to be called The Adventures of Luke Skywalker, after all).
That’s kinda the whole thing. Why the THREAT of “like it or not” matters right now in SW? Especially when it’s so convoluted and lacking any knowledge of SW lore? Rey…has not earned the spot other than Disney Lucasfilm saying so and parrots echoing such??
Coo.
This show just isn’t worth all the attack, hype or defense. It’s just low rent, CW style cornyness. Watching some people try to defend the convolution and mental gymnastics is like watching 6 year olds debating that Godzilla would beat Thanos.
To me, at least, it’s not stop cringe. 🤷♂️
I’d also add that the way the Jedi never looked into the whole “Clone army” thing enough AND just took over and went with it shows them to also be completely naive and lacking any kind of simple awareness. There’s not alot of cause to feel sad for what happens to them in ROTS. They were too incompetent to be the authority of the entire Galaxy.
It comes off like it was necessary for them to be dethroned and I’m sure that’s not want Lucas initially intended. 🤷♂️
daveybjones999…yes, yes and yes! Thank you!
And to get back on topic I’ll just say I had low expectations for this show and having now scene the episodes available…I’ll be darned but I actually really like it! Watched the episodes about three times each and I’m enjoying the characters, pacing, music and action a great deal.
“I think kids are dumb, so I made it dumb intentionally”
That’s how I always hear his defense.
Lucas is back at it…blaming fans for any of his weaknesses in writing or directing. 🤷♂️
😄
I always hated that line because it implies that fighting sith lords is like one of the jedi things that jedi do. Based on the original trilogy alone it seems like Darth Vader only has a lightsaber because he’s a fallen jedi, but the prequels changed that and now I’m rambling…
Anyway yeah I get it’s like a joke, but like most of the “funny” lines in the PT it comes across as cringe-inducing.
The other silly thing about that line is that, going by the movies, the only Sith lord the two of them last fought was Dooku in AOTC…and he kicked their ass. So getting beat was their only “specialty” up to that point.
It’s a book that Disney made “canon” at the time, correct?
Basic flat looking Disney show…yep that about somes up my reaction too. It looks somewhat interesting but I’m just WAY over Jedi and their robes and their religious blundering. After Andor season 2 it’s looking extremely boring and bleak unless they bring Tony Gilroy to a different SW project. He gets it.
Sounds like we’re back to utilizing “the volume” then.
If you weren’t referring to any members on this board who don’t have gushing thoughts about any upcoming SW projects…then why did you mention it in the first place? Did you think anyone here wanted to hear your rant on “hating the haters”? Still is not the place for your personal vitriol against a 0000.01% minority.
Patronizing terms such as “click haters” and “fandumb menace” are not welcome here. You can be excited for a project you know little about without having to label and ridicule posters on this forum. You come off way more toxic than anything you’re pretending to be “against” and perhaps a bit too hostile. 😉
This just in…actor is excited for work. 😶
Excited for that pay day. I kid, I have nothing against Daisy, I just don’t have any faith in the production.
Same.
