James Bond 007 Thread
Time

I was very happy to hear that the next James Bond film will NOT be directed by "Skyfall" director Sam Mendes.

"Mendes had hinted that he would direct Bond 24, however in March 2013, he announced he would not direct the 24th Bond film in order to focus on stage work."

"Licence to Kill"

This is one of my top five favorites.  I know it has it's cheesy moments, but this film feels much more like an Ian Fleming flavored James Bond then any of the Guy Hamilton, Lewis Gilbert, or other John Glenn entrees.  Bond is at his gritty best, and he has a great personal motivation for his revenge.  The action is realistic, and most of the bad guys don't feel like they are out of a comic book.  They have some real nasty objectives with the drug trade plot, and I love how Franz Sanchez comes completely unglued by Bond's psychological manipulations.  The story moves at a decent pace, and I really enjoyed the Milton Crest character and his roll in the overall drug operation. His fate was amusing, and I almost could find myself  feeling sorry for him. How Bond set him up, was brilliant story telling.  The call back to earlier Bond gags (like the duck disguise from "Goldfinger") was pulled off very well this time around. The Manta Ray disguise was so much more realistic here, than the use of a crocodile disguise done in "Octopussy". The Truck chase was a bit over the top, but it beats Bond fighting in front of a rear projection screen, or fighting on a airplane yet again. Yes, I like this film a lot. Too bad Dalton did not get another go as Bond.  Oh, and I have to add that Wane Newton was excellent in his roll of the greedy and overly sex obsessed Televangelist.

But first, the Tranya.

I always felt Kirk was a bit too trusting with that drink.  I mean, Balok's glass was already pored when it came out of the thingamabob, but Kirk and company had to have theirs poured from the punch bowl.  Oh, and Baily was also a bit too quick to volunteer to be left alone with little Balok. And that pervert grin Baily had on his face when he jumped at the chance to stay, and also the way the camera zoomed in on him! Yep, that episode was a bit creepy.

Awesome ! I was looking at these releases only yesterday.

Are they even available anymore? I have seen Vol 1 but the rest are elusive it seems.

Yes, they had a very limited pressing on Vol 2, and now it looks like Vol 3 and Vol 4 are all sold out as well.   I was on the Intrada mailing list, so I got them as soon as they each came out.  I also have the Stu Phillips BSG Anthology. That was a limited 4 CD set taken from his personal recording tapes that had been released some years back.

I'm a HUGE fan of the 70's show.  The tellamovies with the extra scenes are great (not to be confused with the movies edited for outside the USA theater release), I love the "Experiment in Terra" one, that did a major re-edit of the "Return of Starbuck" episode from "Galactica 1980" and also had newly made footage (yet cheesy) of an astronaut finding the logbook of the Galactica floating in space. Also it had newly recorded dialog recorded by Lorne Greene that tells the viewers the history of the Cylon's and the war.  I have also collected all the newly released limited edition soundtracks that came out over the last two years for the original 70's show.

Edit:

WOW!  I just found the videos I had uploaded on this years and years ago.

Take a look.

Logbook Part 1

Logbook Part 2

The "Experiment in Terra" telemovie is the only Battlestar Galactica telemovie which actually features new footage. Back in the 1980's, MCA's T.V. distribution took episodes of Battlestar Galatica and made a number of feature length "Telemovies" by (In most cases) re-editing two episodes of the 1978/79 series into one story. These "Telemovies" had been sold around the world for broadcast as stand alone programing. A number of the newly created edits did contain footage that was not part of the original episode versions. But of all the "Telemovie" edits, only one had newly created footage inserted into it, and it's also the only "Telemovie" to use an episode of the original series combined with an episode of Galactica 1980 ("The Return of Starbuck")! You have it?! I want more words on its impressiveness!

For those that don't know, that's the limited edition set of every piece of music recorded for TOS, including stuff they didn't use!

Well I just finished disk number one. This includes "The Cage" and "Where No Man Has Gone Before". The fidelity is leaps and bounds better then the GNP Crescendo release. Gone are the audio flutters and hiss that had cursed that set. The music here is bright, powerful, and very crisp.  These recordings sound as if they could have been tracked yesterday!  It took me over four months to break the shrink-wrap on this baby, as I wanted to be in the right state of mind to absorb and appreciate the sonic picture I knew it would invoke.  The liner-notes are also top notch and very informative and well written. You can tell that these guys who produced this set are true trek fans.  There is so much respect given to the layout and amound of extra content. The extra content is on disk five of each seasons five CD Jewel box. Now in the morning I am going to listen to disk two, and it contains "The Man Trap" and "The Naked Time".  I'm especially looking forward to "The Man Trap" as this is it's first release. The sound of the instrument used for the salt creature theme (an electric violin) had always sent chills up my spine.  The first season's third version of the Main Titles (The pilots each used different versions) also used this instrument, and it gave the theme a very 1960's psychedelic feel.  This is a real treat guys, and I am so glad they took the time to create such a wonderful set for the fans. It's taken me straight off to intergalactic La La Land at warp speed! *Mind Blown*
