<strong><strong>BLADE RUNNER: The Unauthorized OFF-WORLD Box Set</strong></strong> (Released)
Time
F.Y.I.

Over at that "World Famous Auction Site" (Listed in category: DVD, Film & TV > Film Memorabilia > Other Film Memorabilia
), there is/was a CD item with the auction title " HARRISON FORD BLADE RUNNER STUNNING RARE COLLECTORS CD "

From Description:
("THIS IS A FULL LENGTH SOUGHT AFTER VINTAGE INTERVIEW WITH HARRISON FORD WHERE HE TALKS ALL ABOUT THE MAKING OF BLADE RUNNER")

http://i5.ebayimg.com/02/i/02/9f/08/dd_1.JPG
Does anyone have this?

Is it an Offical CD, and is it out of print?

If it can be used, That content would be great for Rikter's "OFF-WORLD Box Set".

All you have to do is a search over at that site to find it. I'm not sure what the rule is about posting links to items for sale on E***.com is, so I will not.

Phineasbg/ HIGHLANDER II: Extended Versions (Released)

Update 02/06/06:

The unreleased German letterboxed print Mitch provided looks FANTASTIC!

It's so much better than any other print of Highlander 2 that I've ever seen in any format. This blows ALL DVD versions of this movie away!

Well the English audio track from that poor quality Pan & Scan VHS from Japan has now been overdubbed onto of the unreleased German letterbox version. The Laserdisc I got last week was the bad American version of the film, so it was of little help in this project. Good news is that I was able to improve the sound of the VHS soundtrack allot. But again, bad news. The two versions did not match up in some spots, so much more work for me to do. The VHS version had a longer running time with some shots not on the German print. The two running times did not synch up at all, and I had to split up the film into lots of bits and adjust the video time to synch with the audio tracks then put it all back together and render.

Another problem was with some bad digital video and audio glitches on each of the two audio and video masters provided me. To fix these problems, I am using the Renegade Version DVD. I'll have to adjust the video quality of the RV to match the German print. So far the project is looking good. What we will have as an end result is a unique version of Highlander 2 (in English) that is different from any other released version of the film. This "NEW" version most closely resembles the original British theatrical edit (not available on any video format in letterbox), but has an ending more like the American theatrical version.

Another thing I am doing to this print of H2, is enhancing it for 16:9 televisions. As an extra, I took the alternate (fairytale) ending from the Pan & Scan VHS, and cropped out the subtitles and made it look like it's now in letterbox. This ending was only on the original British theatrical print, and is not contained on any known video release. This is the completed version of that ending. A very raw version of some elements of this scene can be found in the extras section of the 2004 Lions Gate DVD. This "Fairytale" ending can be used as a little DVD bonus, or we can reconstruct the entire original British version as a second DVD project.

MORE TO COME!

Idea &amp; Info: a Dune Fan Edit thread...
Time
When making my (Pan and Scan) edit of DUNE, I had to do a great amount of sound editing and mixing. I spent as much time working in Cool Edit (Audio editing program) as I did video editing in Adobe Premiere. One trick I used was to make small background sounds and drop them in under edits. For Leto's office scene, we used a cue from the soundtrack CD mixed with some new sound effects that we made using a microphone. My edit is riddled with small audio changes. Some video was extended to fit the soundtrack playing, or soundtrack was changed to fit the video. The re-edit of "THE BOX" scene was very involved, and took a few days to make it passable. Still, I believe my version of this scene flows and makes much more sense than any other version. The arrival at DUNE, where the local people take a look at Leto and family was also a tricky sound edit.

On the subject of the DUNE extended soundtrack by TOTO...

It's too bad that a number of the tracks have such bad sound problems on them. At one point I was going to try and repair these damaged tracks so that a more complete version of the soundtrack could be included on the FanFiltration edit of DUNE DVD set as an extra. Thing is, that I just ran out of time on the project.

Here is an informative link to a review of the two known DUNE Soundtrack CDs by TOTO. There is also info about the sound problems found on the extended version CD put out by PEG.

Info Wanted: What is FanFiltration?
Time
We are just fans of films and fan edits. "FanFiltration" is just myself, and a very good friend of mine. We came to the originaltrilogy forums a bit over a year ago, and soon after started our DUNE edit for personal education. It seems that our edit found it's way into the public world of bit torrents, so it can now can be found with some searching around. At the time our DUNE edit was made ( March 2005 - July 2005), we had been using very basic tools, and it was our very first fan edit work. For a first try, and for just a fan work of amusement, I feel we did a passable technical job. It's my personal opinion that the real quality in DUNE: FanFiltration Edit is the way the story is now presented, and the editing choices that we made. Now that we have received a great response to DUNE however, we have now put a great amount of money into much better software and video equipment for our new fan related projects.

Info &amp; Info Wanted: Godfather 1 and 2 Chronoligical version edit project?
Time
My Chronological Godfather project is done, I just need to get it out there.

It's on 5 single layer DVD-Rs at this point, and includes an edit version of Godfather III, removing the death of Fredo flashback.

If I remember, I used the Trilogy LD Set, The Godfather II LD, The DVD Box Set (out-takes), and The Epic VHS set.

Also, I placed the birthday party flashback from the end of GF:2 before the wedding.

I wanted to keep all the Italian overdubs with the English subtitles as used in the film version, and not the original English production soundtrack as seen in the T.V. / Extended cut. Something I felt I had to do was to keep the extended version's scene where the landlord comes to GENCO to pay his respects, but still include the theatrical version's Italian soundtrack with subtitles. It was a very tricky edit/wipe, but I got it done.

It's Pan and Scan...

P.S. And, I also include the out-take from the DVD box of that first fight between Connie and Carlo, and it was a real bitch to insert that one!

Video Watchdog is GREAT! I have those very issues, and that is what I used as a guide for building the FanFiltration edit of DUNE.
Sean Murphy also did a similar article on the "Highlander 2" variations.

So, I got my copy of the new DVD release. First off, I am not very excited with the deleted scenes. The only parts I can see including in the FanFiltration 2.0 Edit are the ones from the end of the movie, the Shadout Shouts bit, and some of the death of Jamis. I would not change the intro to the film at all. Most of the out-takes are just not good production, sound, or acting wise. Based on this DVD's selection of out-takes, it seems to me that most of the cuts that had been made to the prolog and rest of DUNE were a very wise move. Also, I still think they are holding some good un-used footage back.

The new DVD extras are nice, and the DVD keep case is great! I think the keep case is the best part of the re-release, and I have a good feeling it had alot to do with the hold up of this release. There was rumor that the set at one point (due to some type of technical problem) was going to have to be a two disc set. Now I could see that leading to problems with that style of keep case.
Not to take away from this set, but it would have been nice if it had a small booklet of production art included. Kind of like the one included with the U.K. set.

If other people want to take on an edit of Dune, please go for it! At some point I do plan on making an anamorphic version of my edit (including some of the new out-take footage), but it's not at the top of my list.

Will Do...

Well to report on what is going on with this on my end, I got the audio and video footage from Mitch last week. First thing I did was to view the movie in German to see how it looked and the story flow of that version. Next I started to rip the video to my PC, and play with the sound. On Friday I had to go on a 3 day SCUBA trip, so work did not pick up again untill yesterday. The Laserdisc I got should be here any day, and I think the sound may be better on that. If it's not, then I'll use the sound from the VHS version.

How can we not tamper with this film?

Not to brag, but to make a small point.
It had only taken me about 2 weeks (in my spare time) to re-do the blue within blue eyes on the FanFiltration Edit of DUNE. You would think that MCA would dish out a few bucks to someone out there (**Waves hands in Air**) to do that for an official version right?

How cheap is that, and why do they hold back all this footage? Why not release the complete scenes? Sure, I can understand when different studios produce extras and don’t allow those extras to be transferred to other companies around the world (eg. "Impressions of Dune"), or who may later release that same title. But dang, give the fans what the fans want. All MCA needs to do is visit to a few DUNE fan sites and newsgroups to see what we have been demanding for years. Time and time again I saw people bitching about the missing blue eyes and the bad re-use of spfx shots in the T.V. version. Well, MCA and this DVD still have not fixed those two major fan sore points!

I'm giving notice, that the only time I will ever buy this title again (I have at least 6 official versions of this film not including the new one), is if and ONLY IF the words "OFFICAL DAVID LYNCH DIRECTOR'S CUT" is on the cover.

Now, battles we still have a chance to win:

"MK2 is meeting with Lynch in the next few weeks to continue negotiations for the 2 Disc Collectors Edition of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. In these next few months, the fate will be decided if MK2 will be releasing Deleted Scenes for this DVD. The 2 Disc Special Edition release has been pushed back to mid 2006 to allow for the final negotiations and to prepare additional extras for this release."

Poor, poor, poor "Highlander 2".
It's just too bad this movie has had such a bad time of it.

If there is one film out there that is in definite need of a fan edit, it's this one!

It's very true; Highlander 2 was one of the biggest disapointments in film history. But in fact, it's not at all a bad production. The acting is passable, cinamotography is on par with other big films of it's time, and the sets show a good deal of production value (even if the huge street set tends to look a bit more like a ride at a movie studio theme park at times).

The original USA edit is 100% BAD, and the Renegade version does not go far enough for my personal taste.
Well, that's why people like us do what we do. EDIT!

Building a better "Highlander 2" can, AND WILL be done!

With all the versions of H:2 around the world, and with so much alternate and deleted footage available for our use, a fan edit just has to be (at least) attempted.

Just for fun,
I know of at least nine Sci-Fi related moves that I would say are worse (or atleast no better) then "Highlander 2".

I would pop "Highlander 2" (The Original US version) into my DVD player before I would even look at:

1) Battlefield Earth 2) Spacehunter (Adventures in the Forbidden Zone) 3) Conan: the Destroyer 4) Matrix: Reloaded 5) "AI"
6) Bicentennial Man 7) The Phantom Menace 8) Batman and Robin 9) Event Horizon 10) Red Planet
Let's go on.....
11) Alien Resurrection 12) The Fifth Element (Chris Tucker killed this!) 13) Independence day 14) Armagedon 15) The Avengers
16) JP2: The Lost World 17) Waterworld 18) The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 19) The Postman 20) KRULL 21) Revenge of The Sith

FanFiltration's Release &amp; Feedback Thread

Oh My!

I forgot to make an official announcement about Star Wars Re-Making Magic being done, and that it's in testing phase.

That DVD has over 200 menus that had to be programmed. We also made it so you can now move through the entire program just using the enter button on a remote. The CD-ROM was annoying in this regard. There is a very obvious Easter egg off of the main menu.

Rikter, thanks so much for helping me test this project and with all the help getting it to fans!

Today, I just got done with my latest restoration project on yet another great film.

An announcement will be coming soon.
