Could segments of the sequel be added as a B story occuring on the the night side of the planet?

Funny you should bring up "Starship Troopers".
As a little side project, I had been working on a fast moving striped down version of "ROUGHNECKS: Starship Troopers Chronicles”. I've got most of the "Pluto Campaign" cut so far. The computer art version of "Starship Troopers" is so much better then the live action films. Now with all the other projects I've taken on, ROUGHNECKS has somehow been put on hiatus. Hope I can get back to it soon.

Closeau arriving home with groceries' sequence is all an extended scene from "Strikes Again".

Is the exterior scene you are talking about the one where Closeau is attacked by some woman's dog at the corner store? If so, it's over-dubbed (by Rich Little?) and is a horrible segment.

Some things just need to be keept on the cutting room floor.

Am I mistaken?

All the out-takes I can find and the films I believe they are from:

Balls Costume shop: Strikes Again
Closeau Ariving Home (Lift gag): Strikes Again
Closeau Sets Paper / Office on fire:Return
Closeau's ride to Paris Airport: :Return
Closeau on plane / arrival in U.K." Strikes Again
Closeau at hotel: Strikes Again

There are a few shots of a body double, and one of Closeau (with bad over-dubbed voice) telling a cab driver to "Drive like the wind". I refuse to use them in my edits. With the "Closeau at hotel" cut scene from Strikes Again, there was some over-dubbed voice of Herbert Lom added for Trail. I have removed that voice over.

You can make complete isolated scores for You Only Live Twice, Dirty Harry, Magnum Force and Logan's Run as all of those have been released on CD and are complete.

Neil

"You Only Live Twice" is missing the trumpet and string music played under Bond's fake funeral aboard ship at the start of the film.

Nope, it's on there. I just listened to it to make sure. I have the complete album cut apart, but I have a 1:58 cue titled, "Burial at Sea". According to my notes, it can be heard in the middle of "James Bond in Japan".

Neil

Neil,

Of course you are 100% correct. I just dug out the official CD, and there it is. For some reason when I made my compilation CD-R of the score in sequence I somehow cut that cue out. I've been only listening to my CD-R, so I just assumed it was not on the official version.

Sorry, did not intend to hijack this thread…

I know it's just a very small cue, but it bugs me that it's not on the extended soundtrack CD.
It's the same way with the Star Trek: TMP soundtrack. That extended CD did not include the music played under the "Capt. Log" sections of the film. It's small, but I WANT IT!

I have the You Only Live Twice, Dirty Harry, Magnum Force extended soundtracks, but not Logans Run.

UPDATE:

"Trail" and "Curse" are just too horrible! I'm not going to do an edit of them.
The jokes are so dated and the story is so boring... There is just no point.
I'll make a set with extended versions of "Strikes Again" and "Return of", and that's all.

"Trail", "Curse" and "Son of" need to be lost forever.

Rikter,

I have a licence for TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress Version : 3.0
You are more than free to use my Dolby Digital AC-3 encoder for any of your projects. That is, if you feel it would be suitable for your audio needs. So far, I've done my Dolby Digital 2.0 AC-3 encoding for Banned Bond and Making Magic using TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress .
Just let me know via a P.M., and we can arrange a test if you want.

FanFiltration's Release & Feedback Thread
Time
All I can say to the above is,

"Hey, it was free!".

But seriously, the purpose of my DUNE edit was not to replace or preserve a high quality version of DUNE (go to Amazon.com for that).
That edit was only meant to demonstrate to fellow DUNE fans how MCA could have used a bit of editing skill and some new blue eye animation to have made a better version with the footage they have in the vaults. As we have seen in this last DVD release, MCA Video just don't care to put any effort at all into giving the fans a decent extended edit of that film. The FanFiltration edit was taken from a 1980's Pan and Scan laserdisc (The print looks like crap to start with), and a PAL format DVD (converted to NTSC) of the T.V. version that I feel may be far from an official print (via Ebay). Sorry, but I was not going to just go out and obtain pristine prints and some high quality media equipment just to splice together a conversation piece that I would not profit from in any way. This is a "Fan" edit meant for simple FREE trade and film education. It's not a Laserdisc preservation or product for mass distribution at a profit.

DUNE was my first distributed project, and I enjoyed making it. After that edit was done, I made some investments in better video editing programs and a much better video and AC-3 encoder. Now that I got the hang of things, I believe people have seen some much better video / laserdisc transfers done by me on my later projects like "Banned Bond" and "Star wars: Making Magic DVD".

But still, thanks for the input.

Thanks for all the title ideas, and the suport for this project!

This should be fun.

At this point, I think I will stay with "Facets of the Pink Panther" for the compilations title. http://www.high-tech.com/panther/images/pinkblnkl.gif

The Pink Panther is a diamond, and diamonds have "facets". If we were looking at a collection of clips from past Pink Panther films, we would be viewing different "facets" of the Pink Panther films.

"The Pink Panther Strikes Again" titles are the best of the "Panther" series!

I did not like the titles or music for "Trail" or "Curse" at all. Do you think I should use a mix/edit of all the past titles, or make some all new animated titles by me and my friend? what would be best? We did the blue eyes for DUNE, so how hard can moving a panther and small man around some new titles be?

This edit will have a basic plot, but not one with so much over the top and needless "bad" and "forced" humor.

The object here is to wrap the "Panther" series up with a short story, and to pay a simple tribute to what Sellers had done in his installments.
It's a fan edit ment to be placed into a fans dvd player when he/she wants to just crack up to the "Best of Clouseau" without the dead weight of 2 (or is it 3) needless and stupid go no place sub-plots. With the use of branching the DVD program, you will be able to view the flashback clips with a sub-story, or without one.

This is not going to be some major plot that revolves around a replacement detective.
It will be a more compact "move along" plot, with more flash backs (from "Return of The Pink Panther" too), and now without the bad low-budget music overdubed for "Trail".

You know, I don't want to give too much away, but Inspector Clouseau will now have vanished sooner in this edit. Some of the events from Curse will now happen inter-cut with events from Trail. A good deal of the reporter's scenes will now be cut out or be re-sequenced. There will be no over-blown mafia subplot in this edit.

If this project turns out the way I hope it will, I'll need some people to give it a pre-view.

Yep, I think you are right about most of the footage coming from "Strikes Again".

What I was contemplating as a second installment to this project was a type of re-edit and combining of "Trail of the Pink Panther" with "Curse of the Pink Panther".

Did I just hear a grone?

The idea was that I could try and hopefully make one less atrocious film out of the fragments of two very, very atrocious films.

Herbert Lom and a much better assortment and editing of the Peter Seller’s best of segments would hopefully be the saving grace of this fan edit.

I would need to cut some painful scenes with actor Richard Mulligan, and the young Clouseau played by some bad imposter. My fan edit would be more of a wrap up short-story to the series and, be a much more respectful homage to Peter Sellers then the insulting mess that was done by Edwards and MGM/UA back in the early 1980's. The attempt to continue and milk the franchise by stretching things so thin as to make two features without any "new" input from Peter Sellers (only by the use cut footage), and to attempt to build an overly contrived new plotline for the series was just a total disaster. In 1982, the two films had been taken by movie audiences of the time as in "Bad Taste" and a "Rip Off".

So True! http://www.high-tech.com/panther/images/inspector.gif

For this project, I shall be using the Peter Sellers out-takes and extended footage utilized in the 1982 hack job “Trail of the Pink Panther”, and inserting that “Sellers” footage into the movies that it had originally been filmed for. The first film (installment) that will be done in this project, will be an extended version of my all time favorite film of the Panther series “The Pink Panther Strikes Again”.

http://www.geocities.com/moonshadowdream@sbcglobal.net/images/ani/ani_pphole.gifMore to come…

Mod Edit: the extended version of ‘The Pink Panther Strikes Again’ was completed and released by FanFiltration.

Reading through the thread FanFiltration stated that his proposed projects for ‘Trail of the Pink Panther’, ‘Curse of the Pink Panther’ and ‘Son of of the Pink Panther’ were cancelled.

I plan to use footage from the G.O.D. storyline video, The documentary 'A Warrior's Journey', Enter the Dragon, the 1978 Game of Death and The documentary 'Bruce Lee: Legend' to reconstruct the closest possible film to what Bruce had wanted.

What is the "G.O.D. storyline video"? Is that the same thing as "Game of Death 2" or "The True Game of Death"?

I have the - Out of Print - "Enter the Dragon" CD Soundtrack if you need it for this project.
(The edition with 17 tracks not just 10)

It came with the E.t.D. boxset a few years ago.

I never heard John Barry's Score for the released "Game of Death", but I can't think of it out doing E.t.D. by Lalo Schifrin.

I'm trying to see about getting a set of MP3 files of just the commentary tracks made for upload...

IMHO, Criterion / Janus Films would have to object to the sound files and sue.

With how Criterion feels about the ban in the first place, I don't think they would.
A copy of the film is another matter, and would involve MGM and EON I'm sure.

FF

I'm still unclear about something, do you have anything against putting these DVDs online?

Not at all. I'm just not knowledgable on how it is done (torrents and all).
So far, I've had help from other fans placing my work on the fan circuit.
Personally, I'm not sure I want to be that involved in the both the editing and the distribution sides of things.
