Universal Studios (literally) on fire!

"The studio's film vault, which is lined in concrete and lead and contains irreplaceable film negatives, was not affected."

"Fortunately, nothing irreplaceable was lost," said Ron Meyer, CEO of Universal Studios. "The video library was affected and damaged, but our main vault of our motion picture negatives was not."

That's great news!

I think it's amazing that they had the theme park open today during all of this. I would not want to be breathing in that smoke. God knows what was burning and now in the air.

Indiana Jones IV
Time
Now for a blast from the past...

Any one remember the 1982 Indian Jones inspired T.V. show "Tales of the Gold Monkey" staring Stephen Collins? That was a GREAT and fun show that never made it into a second season. I think they only had like 21 episodes.
Wish that show would come out on DVD, but with such few episodes it's unlikely.

I found the opening on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdFN6agkNnQ

Then there was the show Bring 'Em Back Alive , that I never got into but was in the same adventure category.

I remember in the early 80's right after Raiders came out we had a number of "Indiana Jones" type knock off movies including the two low budget Allan Quatermain films "King Solomon's Mines" and "Allan Quatermain, and the Lost City of Gold" as well as "Romancing the Stone" and "The Jewel of the Nile". I'm sure there had been others.

The Prisoner
Time
That is a great show!!! Look at the aired versions in aired order first {Except the episodes The General & Dance of the Dead}. Save the {Original} version of "Chimes" as an extra for later on. The aired versions better set the tone and continuity by using the same music and intro pattern.

Arrival {Aired Version}
Dance of the Dead*
The Chimes of Big Ben {Aired Version}
The General*
A. B. and C.
Free For All
The Schizoid Man
Many Happy Returns
Checkmate
Hammer Into Anvil
It's Your Funeral
A Change of Mind
Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling
Living in Harmony
The Girl Who Was Death
Once Upon a Time
Fall Out

Extra:
Arrival {Original}
The Chimes of Big Ben {Original Version}

Be seeing you.

I am... Iron Man!
Time
This was a great film! Not an epic like 1978's Superman, but great. I think Marvel is doing the right thing by taking over the production end of it's own properties, rather then licensing out to other studios as it had with bomb films like The first "HULK", and "Fantastic Four" series. Marvel says it plans to do a lot of cross over stories and characters in future films it's producing, as it is a better over all story tactic for them to be able to have control of how and where all the characters are now used in a single conforming universe. I sure hope we will see a re-boot of X-Men at some point, as well as Spiderman now that it looks like the Tobey Maguire series is done. I'm not sure how long these other studios have options on the licensing for those properties, but I would think it's somewhat limited. Let's just hope Marvel know how to hire good directors that fit each title and character. The new Hulk trailer looks a bit better then the last one from a month ago, so I can only hope we get another good film in June. If Hulk does good, and Batman {from rival DC comics} kicks ass like we know it will, that would be 3 hit comic related films in the same season. That is sure to have distribution studios fighting and willing to put up big bucks so they can distribute new product as fast as possible before the latest comic book related trend dries up. That may be good news for fans, or could spell over saturation.

BSG

Was it just me, or did that last episode of BSG "The Road Less Traveled" just feel like nothing more then a poor filler episode? I'm sorry, but I just did not think it was a very good episode at all. The story has seemed to slow down to a crawl now. All the main plot points of that episode could have been told within 5 min. I give that episode 1 out of 5 stars. With the small amount of episodes left till end game, I seem to want and expect much better.

What should be bannable offenses on Originaltrilogy forums?

In the past, being banned has required blatant, repeated trolling and a predilection toward pedophilia.

I'd say your transgressions fall on the lighter side of the spectrum.

I added an ignore feature to the software for a reason. Anyone is welcome to use it.

Thank you for your wise input Jay! I'm so glad that sober reason prevails on this great site.

That was exactly the point I was trying to make when I posted the following comment in the China thread.

... "Baiting" with the intent to draw someone into a civil dialog, political or social debate is common here, and not done for the use of causing personal grief to members such as personal name calling tactics. "Baiting" for personal attacks is something that I do not endorse or engage in. Please reference a direct act of any bannable type of "Baiting" that you feel I have done here on OT. Harmless "Baiting" can be used in debate for luring a person into using "logical fallacies" such as I mentioned before. A good example of harmful "Baiting" would be the last few posts above directed at me specifically on a past personal medical and legal issue.

Sorry to double post by I had to comment on one other thing.

I'm all for most of what's allowed here. It just seems to me that when someone admits to baiting, they deserve at least a temp ban. I guess the community here is small enough that they don't want to alienate anyone though.

There seems to be a flip flop of Lord Jedi's opinion that I did not catch when I had first posted this thread. Before Lord Jedi had posted the quoted comment above in the China thread, he had posted the following comment a number of hours before under the same topic.

lordjedi said:

I do not wish to see you banned. On the contrary, I love debating topics with those of opposing views. However, there are many websites that will not tolerate bullshit. I've seen a fair number of users here that are given a pass on their comments because we tolerate everything. I've seen other sites where very similar users are summarily banned. Since you outright admitted to baiting, I simply mentioned that many many message boards consider that a bannable offense. Your justification of how you "bait" people wouldn't be enough to keep you around. But I guess that mods at OT.com just don't give a shit.

Now I'm not sure what his view truly is. Does he want to see me banned or not? Or is he just raving?

This is a new thread just for the discussion of what people should be banned for here at OT.

In the thread titled China I had responded about a graphic of a chart that I had posted in relation to the course of a debate on global warming. In the response I said:

I would like to direct you to a great web tool that will help label and classify the "logical fallacies" employed by many of our forum members. This tool is for people such as myself that enjoy baiting, and also observing the types of debate tactics, reactions, and over reactions employed by the posters here. With this reference tool and also a bit of searching and reading over other subjects posted in the Off Topic area, you can identify and tag many members with ease. It's fun and educational. It may even help in your personal debate skills if you sometime feel the need to take one on.

Lord Jedi, who is another member on these forums thinks a person should be banned for saying they have admitted to "baiting" by simply using the word such as I had in the statment above. Well one of his quotes is

lordjedi said:

Now, I do admit I do enjoy luring or "baiting" people into debate on various subjects of value and monitor their reaction on the internet, yet Lord Jedi has faild to provide any evidence of any actaul "baiting" offence I have done that has broken any OT forum policy or rules. I find his logic quite silly in fact.

Let me put it another way:
If a person admits to having smoked illegal marijuana in public, should they be arrested on the spot without evidence of actually smoking it? If so, then most of our nations greatest music talents would be behind bars.

Now, back to forum rules. What about people who hijack a thread repeatedly? Let's say for argument, on China, and they continue to pull the main subject off topic for their own personal agenda again and again? Should they get a ban? Some moderated forums don't stand for that. What do you think?

Here is an idea: Why not start a new topic about forum policy Lord Jedi, and get back to the subject of China like the rest of us had? I think we understand that you would like to have me banned due to my using the word "baiting" by your continued posting and reposting on the issue in the China thread, and also your personal interpretation of my meaning of the term as it applied to debating tactics. But, to me it almost seems that you are "baiting" members to post off subject in the China thread just to talk about your personal view of what forum policy should be. Sorry, but to me that seems a bit unfair to the person who started the topic, and also people who are posting about the subject of China. I tried to be polite and respond to questions asked to me there, but it seems that we are beating a dead horse over at that thread.

So here I am "baiting' you into a discussion on the subject of what should be Bannable Offenses in it's very own spanking new thread.

I welcome anyone to post what they feel should be a Bannable Offense right here.

P.S. I smoked pot.

I'm pretty sure you can also see the Piramids and other objects (not that I've been in space...).

They shipped a few soldiers from the Terracotta Army to the Netherlands. I want to go and visit the museum were they are on display if I have the time. I read a newsreport a few weeks ago saying the soldiers dug up so far may only be the tip of the iceberg.

Snopes says that the claim that the Great Wall is the only object seen from space is indeed false. I only remember hearing that at one time.

That Terracotta Army is indeed fascinating! I would also love to see that display and travel to the Netherlands for other reasons. It's a great thing that China is preserving these finds, unlike radical groups in Afghanistan who blew up their own historical monuments.

Said to be the only man-made object that can be seen from space. When the smog is not too bad that is.

Talk about splitting hairs. The graph you posted sure doesn't seem like it was baiting to get discussion going. No, that graph was clearly posted as a means of baiting people into what could possibly be a negative reaction. You even said yourself following that that even though it didn't target anyone specifically, you aren't surprised by the responses and who responded. That's typical baiting.

You are truly grasping at straws here. Posting of photos of smog in Beijing could be said to accomplish the same end, as could posting a photo of a watch of Mao Tse-tung. The photo of the graph was posted as an aid to my opinion of the ongoing debate, just as the smog photos had been posted by another user. Sure you are offended because you seem to me to be type of person who thinks they know more then they truly do, and deep down you are aware of it. Another user on OT named Darth Chaltab has a sig graphic putting down liberals.

http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/678/animation3rq8.gif

This is also the same as my graph. It's without question meant to offend a number of members, and that is in no way different. You are annoyed when confronted with what you consider to be an insult, but that's your problem. It's sure not Bannable in other cases on this board. If my views are not popular, so be it. You may be happyier in a culture like that in China. You just seem to to take to wanting to silence your political and social opposers. This method is a common trait with fascists and communists. Not saying you are one, just pointing that out.

I got that graph from a very entertaining article about how the seeds of the next American civil war can be seen in worthless debates such as this.

lordjedi said:

Yeah, a debate that you're actually participating in. So it seems to me that you're just as guilty as the rest of us.

That would be an incorrect observation. I did not enter into the sub-debate of "Global Warming". What I did do was make a very general comment on the manner in which "Global Warming" was being debated, and how I felt some had no clue as to what they even were talking about on the subject. I should have used the word useless and not worthless. I'll admit that was an error on my part. I feel that you can't debate an issue with any type of effective resolution when so many don't even admit the problem exists.
Sorry, but that's how I feel. My comment was reasonable, and I stand by it.
