Yes, we did include the (black background) Overture with Ilia's theme.

well, it would have been outrageous if you didn't....... ;)

Speaking of "outrageous", there will be the rare Shaun Cassidy vocal version of Ilia's Theme ("A Star Beyond Time") on the second audio track as an extra.

I found that 2 second shot on the broadcast widescreen teatrical cut, so it's included. I don't know how I had missed it before.

COOL.  I was worried for a while that this would be an "almost-exactly-restored-except-for-two-seconds" version...

I made a DVD-R of this edit last night, and my buddy and I are going to watch this monster today to make sure it's ready for an xvid pre-release.

Good luck!  Say, did you include that minute-forty of black screen with music at the very start?

-Jeph!

Yes, we did include the (black background) Overture with Ilia's theme.

The edit runs a total of 2 hour and 24 Min., that is 60 seconds more then is listed on the VHS version of the S.L.V.

The cinefex issue for the first trek film goes for a lot of money, and unlike the star wars  fans i don't think there is someone scanning these issues and digitally preserving them.

http://www.cinefex.com/backissues/issue1.html

Cinefex has that issue (and other ones) for sale (in B&W photocopy form) for $7.50

I think a big reason it goes for lots of money (for the original) is that it is issue #1 of Cinefex.

Fantastic news!  By the way, how did you deal with that one shot that's not fully available in widescreen?  Did you recycle the background from previous footage?

Well good news.  The new codec I tried out last night worked just fine, and the picture looks great! The new edit is all done, and being encoded as I type this.  I worked 14 hours straight on this just to get it done.  I felt if I was to stop, it would never get done.

We should be able to post the bare bones xvid of this "Special Longer Version" edit in under a week.  Sorry to everyone who has been waiting for this for so long, but I'm sure you will be happy with what we have done.   Remember, this "Special Longer Version" is just one third of the  STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE MEGA SET".  It will go along with two further fan edits of TMP done by FanFiltration (an improved Theatrical Cut, and my personal FanFiltration re-edit of the film). There will be a 3 disk duel-layer DVD release of All 3 edits with isolated score tracks, unique commenary tracks, rare interviews, press kit, publicity photos, tie-in product gallery, and lots more that will be released sometime in the near future.

We have been working for the last week, and are very pleased with how this project is now turning out.

For all our effort, we have a completed Special Longer Version in Letterbox done. But, we feel we can still improve on the picture quality.

I'll be working on this most on today to see what I can do.  I should try re-encoding the source video with a lossless encoder now that I have a lot more drive space to play with, and also cut the DV codec out of the loop all together.

Full ahead Warp factor 6!

Good News!

The first hour of the widescreen Special Longer Version of the film is now completed (and the master files have been saved). That scene in Kirk's Office / Quarters that had been giving me some problems is now sound perfect.  We also did some color correction where we had to join video footage from the Director's Cut and Theatrical cut together in the same scene. 98% of the space special effects shots are taken from the Directors Cut DVD print, except places where special effects shots had been re-made exclusively for the Director's Version. All the other effects shots are taken from a source of a widescreen HD-Broadcast of the Theatrical 79' version. All audio for this version is taken from the stereo laserdisc of the 1983 Special Longer Version. Keeping faithful to the original sound mix.  I'll be working all night tonight on the second hour and report back in when that is done.

We hope to get out a Xvid version of this version sometime in the next few weeks.  We may just save the isolated soundtrack and other audio extras for a full DVD release.

This project is going to be re-titled as a 30th Anniversary Set.

R.I.P. Majel Barrett Roddenberry, Dies at 73.
Time

Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of 'Star Trek creator  Gene Roddenberry, has died of leukemia at the age of 76 Access Hollywood confirms. The actress, who appeared in the original 'Trek' TV series, recently completed work as the voice of the Enterprise in J.J. Abrams upcoming 'Star Trek' flick. (Dec. 18)

This was sad news.  She was there (along with Nimoy) at the birth of Star Trek.

This is good to know thanks guys.  I'll keep working as I have been, and when the edit is done, I'll up size the finished edit to anamorphic, or ask one of you to help me out with that phase.  I don't want to get hung up on that aspect of the project yet, I just want to get all the scenes put together first and get the sound right.  There is one section that has been a real problem for some reason to the get audio synced up.  That is the scene in Kirks office where Kirk asks Decker why his phaser order to Chekov had been countermanded.  This scene is a real bitch for some reason.

"Life On Mars" (The American Version)
Time

Thanks for the reply guys.  I was able to get the full 7 U.S. episodes + the first try at a U.S. pilot (with Colm Meaney from Star Trek in the Harvey Keitel role) , and also the 2 seasons of the U.K. version.

I love the show!  It was alot better then I thought it would be.  I do enjoy the American version just as much.  It's nice to have the two versions, and I can see why it was re-made for the U.S. viewing public.  I think alot of us here at O.T. are much more adapitible to such culture differences then the rest of the viewing public.  The lead actor in the U.S. version reminds me of an American Daniel Craig type.

I just got the new hard drive I needed to continue the work on this project.   Having multiple complete versions of TMP as my source, and also trying to edit the film on the same drive was just not working out at all.  Now I hope I can continue without having to stop and re-start every few days to make room.  Hitting technical problems just keeps taking the wind out of my sails, and it's a real tough job getting back into the rhythm. I so want this project to look and sound as good as it can.

I know it's kind of late in the game to be asking this, but...

Most of the source footage I'm using for picture is in 4:3 letterbox format (The HD 79' theatrical cut), and the rest is from the Director's cut DVD (including scenes and shots from that dvd's extras section) presented in 16:9 letterbox.  I had to down size the Director's cut DVD footage and extras to 4:3.  That kind of sucks, and I would rather blow up the 4:3 to 16:9.  Is there a way of doing this without making the 4:3 source fottage look like crap after it has been converted to 16:9?

Info Wanted: Is the RAIDERS soundtrack CD OOP?

As I'm going to make my own 2-disc sets from the box-set and other sources as well, here are previews of the covers I've made for them ("Raiders", "Temple" and "Crusade" only got fronts for now):

I don't think you should have the word "Expanded" on the cover of the KotCS disk, as there is no extra music presented. The content of this films's score is the same as the single released disk from last spring. No extra cues, or expended tracks at all.  You should just change "Expanded" to the word "Original" on this one disk. Or do you have some music from another source on this disk?

Also, may I ask what other sources you are using for your set of the first 3 Indy films?  I have the 1995 DCC Expanded Raiders, The new 4 movie set, and the original CD versions of Raiders, and Last Crusade. What more is there?

Massive frozen water reservoirs discovered on Mars

VERY Good News for future colonization!

Massive frozen water reservoirs discovered on Mars

WASHINGTON (AFP) – NASA scientists have discovered enormous underground reservoirs of frozen water on Mars, away from its polar caps, in the latest sign that life might be sustainable on the Red planet.

Ground-penetrating radar used by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter reveals numerous huge glaciers up to one half-mile thick buried beneath layers of rock and debris. Researchers said one glacier is three time the size of Los Angeles in area.

"All together, these glaciers almost certainly represent the largest reservoir of water ice on Mars that's not in the polar caps," said John Holt, a geophysicist at the University of Texas at Austin and lead author of a report about the discovery, which appears in the November 21 issue of the journal Science.

Great to see they are using the iconic original series Star Trek shooting location Vasquez Rocks (also known to fans as Gorn Rock) in this movie.

I must say, that is a respectful nod to the original series.

Some Star Trek: The Original Series episodes filmed at Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park are;  "Arena", "The Alternative Factor", "Shore Leave", and "Friday's Child"

Y'all better vote for Obama!
Time

The point of the post and video link was not about if "This is still a center right country". What it was ment to show was how the pundits will use the same talking points over and over till they drill the message into the heads of couch potatoes nation wide.

That video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj9iIPTrn1I )  does a great job of showing how everyone of the regular right wing pundits got the talking point memo of the day.

President Elect Obama (damn that sounds good) preaches Unity and Patriotism, and all the right wing pundits want to do is divide us. You'd think they'd choke on all the venom...  I think Obama  is going to convince a great many into believing his message of Unity and Patriotism by repeating that theme over and over and over. He'll never get 'em all. Hell, if GWB could never LOSE them all, nobody will ever WIN them all, either.

But he will win a lot over. You wait and see. I'll betcha.

Now about this girl in this video you linked to. I'm sure what this shows us is that she has hope that her job and the economy will more then likely improve under Obama rather then McCain. She never said that the Government will pay her bills! That is just to far reaching and silly an assumption by what is shown in that clip.  Who knows, we may both be taking her completly out of context. The video was not very informitive.  Now if you are the kind of person who thinks or want other people think that all (or most) African Americans are looking for government hand outs (and I'm not saying YOU are), I'm sure a person could in some twisted way come away with that idea. Again, that is not what I am saying that you are implying, just saying that from that clip a person can come away thinking that if they wish to.

Says who, it's obvious from the posts on this page alone, If Obama doesn't wipe out poverty, bring the unemployment rate to 0% and ensure everyone owns a home it will clearly be the fault of Bush. Don't ya know thats the American way...blame someone else.  Obama has what may be a free pass with the overwhelming dislike for Bush. Obama could totally frig a lot up but all of it would be because of Bush, not because of his own actions. As much as people say Bush does not take accountability, Obama has the possibility of 0% accountiability for anything he does simply because he need only say I could not overcome these issues due to Bush. He hasn't even started and they are already setting up that scenario.

Like how Bush and the right wing talking heads blamed everything on Clinton for almost eight years?  Let me start it off for you. You know why McCain lost so big? It’s Bush’s fault!

I find it funny how Bush has been very quiet for the last few months. It's been for a very good reason. He's been busy deregulating. Despite the obvious reason for Bush staying below the radar, unfortunately he has been very busy shredding laws that protect citizens in favor of his corporate buddies.

 Source: http://www.newser.com/story/41383/huge-bus...ore-jan-20.html

 Source: http://www.truthout.org/103108A

And you all know that when Obama gets in office and starts trying to reverse all of this deregulating crap, Obama will be labeled a "massive regulator" by the right wing media pundits. That label will be used against him and democrats in future elections.  Democrats will say "No! No! We are only reversing the regulations that Bush dismantled in his last days of office." But then the republicans will reply "Sure, you blame everything on Bush"... Typical right wing Bull Shit! Mark my word; "Massive Regulator" will be the bad words in the future.

Oh, and while I’m on the subject. Did you know that according to the right-wing talking heads today "This is still a center right country"?

This is how these dirt bag republican sore loser talking heads play their propaganda game.  If you can handle it, watch this video segment, and see how these masters of deception do it. It’s sure to entertain. At least it may educate some of the smarter people out there.
