Got a Craftsman lawnmower?
Time

I also have a Craftsman lawnmower with a Briggs & Stratton motor. It's a lawn tractor, and it's major problem is that it drains batteries. I found this is a common problem with this model (now 5 years old). We have to push the thing over to our truck to jump start it every time we use it.

I never mind something new to read around here. Please keep posting.

How to make certain movie series' perfect...
Time

"Poltergeist" was another very fun Spielberg produced film. In this case, he was smart to remove himself from any part of the sequels that should  never have been made.

"Mad Max" and "The Road Warrior"  are great, we did not need a 3rd.

"The Pink Panther" films should have died with Mr. Sellers. All films in that series made after his death are horrid.

The original "Shaft" is better off as a stand alone film. Same thing goes for:

"Planet of the Apes" (1967)

"Cocoon" (we did not need a Return)

"Smokey and the Bandit"

"Cannonball Run"

"Meatballs"

"Caddyshack"

"Vacation"

"Halloween"

"Billy Jack"

"The Odd Couple"

"The Poseidon Adventure" (Yes there was a part II)

The French Connection

Godzilla (The original Japanese version)

"The Bad News Bears" The original is a golden classic, the rest are cat poop.

"Conan the Barbarian"

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

I think the story goes something like this.  Way back in the 1960's when the original series was in it's first year, the producers hired a model maker to build a ship for a new race that was being introduced, called The Romulans.  The ship was the original "Bird of Prey". It was called that, because there was a huge painting of a bird of prey on the underside hull of the ship.  Now sometime after the episode that featured this ship was aired ("Balance of Terror"), it was found that the model maker who had built the Bird of Prey was not a union worker. There was some type of problem with the unions, so his models had been returned to him, and could not be used in future episodes. There have been rumors that this man smashed his work out of anger.  Now comes the 3rd season of the original show, where the producers needed a replacement for the romulan model. To save money, they just used the Klingon D-7 model, and put a bit of back story in the episode that the Romulans are now using Klingon designs. FASA games went further in it's game books saying the Romulans and Klingons made a trade. D-7 type heavy ships for a trade of Cloaking technologies.  When Star Trek III was in pre-production, the original villains where going to be The Romulans, not Klingons. The model makers had already made the new "Bird of Prey" (that is seen in Movie 3,4,5,6,7, and countless episodes of the T.V. shows from Next Generation on). This made for more confusion. Now Klingons had Romulan ships.  I lost track after that.

When did they start calling Klingon ships "Warbirds"? That was the name for the Romulan ships.

it seems a writer's error from Enterprise has slipped into the canon of this new reality!

I don't think Ihad ever seen a complete episode of that show.

Ideas Wanted: for 'James Bond - The Typecast Collection'...
Time

Roger More in "Ffolkes" from 1979 (A.K.A. North Sea Hijack). This movie also has two time Felix Lighter actor David Hedison in it too.

Moore stars as an eccentric British adventurer with a disdain for women and a fondness for cats. Moore leads a small underwater commando group that does the occasional favor for Lloyds of London. The British government has a problem. Two oil rigs in the North Sea and a Norwegian Cargo Freighter are being held to ransom. A terrorist group has overrun the freighter and has both it and the two rigs fitted with booby trapped bombs. The economic, environmental and human cost if the British refuse the ransom could be astronomical. Unwilling to negotiate with hostages the government decides to contact Lloyds with a view to using their private specialized methods for dealing with problems. This is where Moore's character Ffolkes comes in. With a truly exceptional cast including James Mason, Anthony Perkins and David Hedison "North Sea Hijack" (aka "Ffolkes") is an enjoyable romp that is high on action and good humor.

The "Highlander" Re-Boot
Time
Found this over at Ain't It Cool News

HIGHLANDER relaunch script generated by writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (both writers on IRON MAN).

It isn't so much that the screenwriters (Art Marcum & Matt Holloway) are telling a different story, but that they are telling the same story in the wrong way.
[EDIT]
...in the original film it is implied, though never clearly stated, that the immortals live by a certain code and that part of that code is to only use an edged weapon of choice (usually a sword) in their duels. You never see an immortal pull a shotgun or AK-47 and unload on their opponent, then calmly woke over to take their head.

Yet in the remake the use of firearms is not only allowed, it is welcomed. At one point in the script while Ramirez (MacLeod's mentor, played by Sean Connery in the original) is teaching MacLeod how to fight, he tells him to always become proficient with the weapons of the time, and use whatever is necessary to gain an edge.

Later we see MacLeod employ a sniper rifle in the hope of catching The Kurgan unawares and dispatching him from a safe distance. This all might be practical, but by including this element much of the charm of the original film is lost.

David Carradine suicide?
Time

I think it was a murder by the old school Kung-Fu masters for his disrespect, and being an outsider perverting the arts. He also stole sacred ground from the sacred Shaolin Temple in China. The theft can be seen on the season 3 Kung-Fu boxset in a recent video taped visit he had made to the temple. They killed Bruce Lee too. Just Kidding around. Most likely it was just some high priced (well connected) local hooker who panicked, and then left him like that. Then again, maybe after she got him all tied up like that, she pulled out and unrolled the old wanted poster in front of his eyes proclaiming, "Now the emperor has his revenge on you Kwai Chang Caine".

I don't know how anybody can sit through Ricardo Montalban's performance as Khan without feeling the need to vomit. It's easily on the level of Palpatine in the later part of ROTS.

Knife in the heart! He was an actor of his time. It was just so clasic how he did it. His performance could just take me back to so many great T.V. villains, that Montalban's Khan became a combination of them all. For me, that made him become that much more of a powerful foe for Kirk.  Ricardo Montalban just had that X factor. I can't put my finger on what it was, but it worked for me.

The novel for "Star Trek V" does a much better job conveying the plot then the film, and is one of the few Trek novels I re-read every few years.

I don't think William Shatner did that bad of a job directing the actors. It was the lack of production value, and forced humor that hurt it much more. I would put the majority of blame on the producers, but Bennet did not truly want to do another Trek. William Shatner talked him into returning. That was a big error. You never want people who are not truly motvated involved on big project like that.

"Superman II" question
Time

I know we have a number of "Superman II" fans here, and I need your help. There is a deleted scene that was partly shown in one of the many documentaries included with the "Ultimate Collector's Edition" box.  The scene is when Zod tells no one to leave the small town, but a young boy gets on a horse and rides off. Non, then throws a police light killing them. Does anyone know where this scene is located in the set?  I would hate to have to watch all the hours of documentaries just to find this one small clip.  If anyone knows where I can find it on "Ultimate Collector's Edition" box set, please reply.

Thanks!

There is a HUGE plot hole in "Search for Spock".  Why must Kirk return to get Spock's dead body from The Genesis Planet, and how did he know it was even there?  When Spock's father comes to see Kirk and does the mind meld, Kirk is told that McCoy along with Spock's Katra (his living soul) must be returned to Vulcan so that both can find peace. How that Katra will be saved by the Vulcans is never explaned in the move.  Next thing we know, Kirk and friends are stealing The Enterprise (best part of the film), and heading for The Genesis Planet.  Kirk is never told that Spock's photon tube was found by Kirk's son David intact. So without that knowledge, why this out of the blue plan to head back to The Genesis Planet ?   Last thing Kirk knew it that Spock's tube was shot in space most likely to burn up during entry into the Genesis Planet's atmosphere.

Another thing that bugs me, is the illogical comment made by Spock's Father when Kirk returns Spock's body and McCoy's Katra laiden brain to Vulcan. He asks Kirk "WHY" did he do this!  "At what cost Kirk, your Son, Your Ship!" Umm, well it was this very same guy (Spock's father) who told Kirk that he "MUST" return to Vulcan "no matter the cost" only a few short reels before.  How freakin' stupid! "Search for Spock" was a real let down.

I was going to ask if you're using the original untouched shot of the Enterprise when she's leaving the spacedock? You know? Where you can see the black arm that comes out from underneath the ship and covers the stars as it passes in front of them.

They fixed/erased it for the Director's Edition.

The plan was to use all the original effects without any of the fixes done in the Director's cut.
