The worst era in human history
Time

I've decided to say that the 21st century is the worst era in human history, as I hate most of the movies, music, slang, fashions, technology, celebrities, etc, etc, etc. made in the last fourteen years.

In purely musical terms it's the worst for sure because since about 1990 no new music has been invented and I suspect there will never be anything new ever again for the rest of human history. Rap was the last earth shattering advance to happen in music where you could honestly say “Wow I’ve never heard anything like that before!” and that's it folks… sorry. It's been almost a quarter century now and based on that I've concluded that there is no more, all discoveries have been made.

With space travel, we will go to Mars, then outside our solar system, we'll invent FTL travel, we'll colonise other worlds!... but musically I'm afraid the human race reached the pinnacle of it's evolution about 23 years ago.

(This pessimistic appraisal of the situation, from a former music blogger)

I'd say it's been longer than that. Music hasn't advanced much at all in the last 40 years. Sure, we got fancy gadgets, and people like Pink Floyd played with them, but you strip it down, it's still not different than what came before. Jazz died when it turned into nonsensical phrases of pure soulessness. Rock died when guitarists became the only focus. Blues hasn't had it's moment since Muddy Waters played with James Cotton. Folk music remains the same, though I won't knock a genre for keeping it's integrity. Electronic music hasn't advanced too far. Really, about the only difference from Deadmau5 and Kraftwerk is the ease in which things are done now. Country hasn't been right since the 60's. If you count anything after to be good, it's because they emulated the past.

Movie soundtracks are the closest to classical we'll ever get, and even they have lost their flare.

Music has gotten far too easy to create, and as long as the normal person can bob their head to it, they don't care if it blows their mind. People these days don't want Dark Side of the Moon. They just want the same ol stuff.

Do I think music is dead? Absolutely not. It's just harder to find good music than it used to be.

Sick of Star Wars Prequel bashing....
Time

When I was young, the Original Trilogy was all I had, so in the end, I didn't need the prequels. In fact, the mystery of what happened to Darth Vader was one of the things that always excited me, but that was because I had an imagination.

I never needed to see it. I agree it had so much potential to be a great story, I just never felt it. We never got a glimpse of the great man Obi Wan said he was. We never saw that. If you feel something for an asshole turning evil, more power to you.

George could've pulled some tears out of some people if he'd made Anakin a likable person.

I still like some things about the movies, I don't know if it's the score, or the fact that there are occasional glimpses at what is to come, but without the OT, my interest in the prequels would be nonexistent. Your great films only stand because people that saw the OT wanted to see more.

Alternate Universe Star Wars Cast

I don't know about a full cast, but I think everything could use some Lee Van Cleef.

Boba Fett? I could hear Lee saying...

"This Sand-Skiff'll stop at Tucumcari"

or better yet, Jabba is gloating about finally getting even with Han and Boba leans over and whispers...

"Even a filthy scoundrel like that has a protecting angel... a golden-haired angel watches over him"

I was 100% thinking of him as Boba Fett. The prequels lacked the western element that the OT had. Boba Fett was just like Lee Van Cleef in For A Few Dollars More.

Maybe have Charles Bronson from the same time as a Han Solo figure. He could play the sort of good sort of bad type.

2. Red Dead Redemption (GTA on horses. A vast world in meticulous detail)

I will never forgive Rockstar for not releasing that game to PC. That game was just screaming Mod potential. All the GTA games have had PC releases, but none for Red.

It's got to be one of my favorite games ever, maybe even top 10. It really pushes the system hard. Still needed a PC release, I think Microsoft might've taken a shit on that.

Blu-Ray and other HD box size STAR WARS covers
Time

^Very nice, and very original on the covers. Only gripe I have, and it's only minor. On my monitor, I see a lot of artifacts and outlines around the Rebel and Imperial symbols on each cover. Like the blacks don't match up. I would recommend selecting the bottom of the front and raising the black levels a bit. That should even it, and hide the edges and artifacts.

Other than that, I like them as well as some of the best covers I've seen on here.

As Christians, Christians should A) apply the laws to themselves and not worry about what other people are doing more than what they do and B) do not judge others because you aren't equipped for the task or risk the outcome of Matthew  7:1-3.

You are 100% correct.

In an ideal society, Christians would follow all the rules of the bible and not just the ones that they like.

I refuse to judge a person, because I sin 5 times before breakfast.

The Lone Ranger.

I felt that it started interesting but i kinda got bored early on. And the colour grading made my eyeballs want to scream. It's the old west - why is everything a sickly green shade?

1 Ball.

I don't get Hollywood's fascination with filters. It's rare to see a movie that doesn't have a nasty filter on it. I can't watch any of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies because the horrible filters on them.

Finally we get a film shot in some of the great badlands that the great John Ford frequented, and what do they do? Slap an ugly filter on it.

I don't like to deal with a lot of people, so I've avoided getting into film, but these ugly bloated pieces of shit from Hollywood, make me want to show them how it's done, and I'm not really a snob when it comes to film.

You don't see Matt and Trey, or Seth MacFarlane getting suspended for offending people. It's all a matter of money. A&E saw that as something that would lose them a lot of money.

To be fair to A&E, profit is supposed to be their first motivation, being a business and all.

It really shows ignorance as to who their fan base is. I'm fairly certain every Duck Dynasty fan knew what their views were before hand.

Family Guy and South Park don't bother their viewers, because they know what they are getting into. It's the same with Duck Dynasty.

Like I've said many times. Tolerance is a double-edged sword. If you want the Christian community to tolerate the gay community, you've got to tolerate that most Christians believe the act of gay sex to be wrong.

If the guy would've been talking genocide and hate, then we'd have a legit reason to carry the guy out on a post. Even if what you are doing is considered bad by some, if it is not hurting anybody, I support every Americans right to do what they want, sin or not.

I think a lot of people like Phil Robertson, because it's something that speaks to them as Christians. To them, it's like having The Waltons and Hee Haw again. Do I think it gets a little conservative at times? Sure, but I think for the most part, television is extremely liberal. This all coming from an outsider to political parties.

A&E were foolish to think that Christian/Conservative people that don't care what anybody thinks, wouldn't say anything that might offend somebody. I'd hate to see what happened if some of the people I used to run around with got famous and had an interview.

The Musician's Thread
Time

I figure since everybody is a creative bunch, some of you must play instruments. This thread will be a place to talk about what instrument you play, how long you've played, why you play, and even for those who might do the occasional show. You can talk about the different gear you own, or wish to own. What musicians influence your style and what not.

You can even talk about horrible experiences either in bands, band, solo performances, or orchestra.

I play a handful of different instruments, some I'm good at, others I am horrible at. Guitar has been my main instrument, and I play harmonica, trumpet, sing.

I took up trumpet, because my Junior High band wouldn't allow guitars. Fast forward 2 years to High School, and they had 3 guitarists, go figure. I never got good at trumpet though, I could play simple songs, and that was it.
