Star Wars: Classic Edition by Ocpmovie (Released)
Time
Thanks. "Interesting". Hmm. I guess I can take that as a compliment.

I used a version of the Carnival poster I found in the HI-Res Poster Art thread. It seems to be a slightly different version of the artwork, perhaps an early draft. I personally like the colors in this alternate version. You can really see that the twin orbs in the bottom right are supposed to be Tatooine's suns. But now that you mention it, Luke and Leia are a little too red and dark. If you could help me find a hi-res copy of the version you used for the label, I might try to fix Luke and Leia.

Any recommendations for the text on the back?

Dr. M's Reinventing The Wheel Edition (PAL to NTSC+) (Released)
Time
Dr. M,

I burned your test file to a DVD and watched it on my TV last night. I haven't seen a lot of the transfers here, but yours looked pretty good. The overscan on my TV completely ate all of the border on the right side. Only a small part of the black border remained on the left. Apparently, my TV's image is not centered. I have a (crappy?) 29" Zenith from '97.

If you crop the image to eliminate the borders, won't you in effect be zooming in on the image? Won't that make the limited resolution of the laserdisc more apparent?

Also in your test file, I noticed for 3 or 4 seconds at the beginning there was a lot of signal noise in the starfield. After it went away, the starfield looked very clear though. Don't know if anyone else experienced that.

I say, go with the TV friendly borders.

DE,

I don't think you ever gave us a follow-up on this. I was watching your edit last night, and it seems that the cloak disappears in the frame as Luke walks in front of it to get his lightsaber. Is that what you did? Is it supposed to have fallen just as Luke walked in front of it?

Thanks,
Erik

Ok. Based on a few recommendations from DE and others, I've updated my cover. (My post on the previous page has been edited to reflect these updates.)

Problem: Many people liked the red-blue-green scheme, but I personally prefer the blue-red-green scheme.

Solution: Now there are two sets!

Set 1:

Set 2:

Thank God there was no debate about the color of ROTJ.

So here are the two versions of ANH. First Blue:

CLICK HERE for full-size BLUE cover.

Then Red:

CLICK HERE for full-size RED cover.

The ANH cover has been changed to now include the same "modified" artwork on the back as DE's disc label, plus two screenshots have been tweaked slightly.

So yes, there will be red and blue versions of the ESB cover.

Enjoy!

Actually, it's not quite the same... if you look at the image on the disc, you'll see that I straightened Luke's legs so he doesn't look like he's auditioning for the ballet I think I also moved the Death Star a bit so it was centred with Luke's lightsabre.

I never noticed that, DE. You never stop retouching, do you? Is there any way I could get that image from you without "Star Wars" on it? I'd love to update my cover with it.

I hope you stick with the ANH red, ESB blue, ROTJ green motif, as I've always felt that the movies were those colours.

Seeing as several people have said this, I wonder if there's something I'm missing here. Has there been some official LFL release or product that had this color scheme?

DE, thanks! I'm sure you realize all the stuff on the bottom of the back is the same as the original (Region 1) DVD cover. I guess I was lazy. Does anyone read that stuff anyway?

Dark_Jedi, I designed my covers to work with the disc labels that Darth Editous already made. If you look closely at the back of the cover, behind the text and screenshots, you'll see the same image. I plan on doing the same thing when ESB is done.

Since's no one else has made any covers for DE's great edit of ANH, I've decided to do one of my own. Here 'tis:

Here's my vision of what the set might look like when done:

This is the first cover I've ever done, so I welcome all critiques (oh, and compliments too).

NOTE: Edited on Aug-1-05 to now include the same "modified" artwork on the back as DE's disc label, plus two screenshots have been tweaked slightly.

Printing out DVD Labels
Time
Originally posted by: Observer
Here's the only problem I see with all of this: many DVD players specifically state in the handbooks that you shouldn't put ANYTHING on the surface of a DVD/CD. This is mostly talking about stick-on labels, but also includes printing and sharpie's. The reason for this is because it can disturb the spin of the disc while it is being played. This leads to the DVD/CD being scratched and/or the player being damaged. The ink from a printer and shaprie can also melt from the heat within some players and cause damage. Just a word of caution...

Oh, come on! Now I can't even use a sharpie on my DVDs and CDs? That's rediculous. I think this is the industry trying to get us to stop burning our own discs. I understand how a printed label could be a problem, but a SHARPIE?

Info: The 'complete' OT feedback thread. Put all the star wars glitches & fixes in here.
Time
Laserman said "This is the place to put your suggestions, feedback, ideas and requests for *all* OT restoration projects."

Please understand my comment about removing Vader's TIE window was not a specific request for the XO project. It's just something that the nitpicker in me would like to see somewhere.

If Darth Editous does DE-ANH 2.0, I'd love to see him fix this.

Need help with an action figure packaging logo (OTC)
Time
Are we talking the vintage Original Trilogy Collection figures that came in the protective star cases? Or the regular Original Trilogy Collection figures?

When you say you want the logo, are you looking for the part of the card with "Star Wars" on it?

The way the words blend into the enitre design of the card, I'm curious what you want to use this for.

Info Wanted: Special Edition Screenshot Request
Time
Thanks, Russ. Unfortunately, these are about as good as the widescreen DVD. Too bad there's not a fullscreen version of these.

I don't suppose anyone knows the people who made the GKar version or TB Release? Screenshots of the original HD frames would be really sweet. That would settle this once and for all.

Once again, thanks to everyone who's humored my obscure requests in this thread.
