How would it work?

Yes. I am seriously volunteering. This is such an interesting project. I'm glad to help in any small way. Caveat: I may only be able to post to my website once or twice a day.

Off the top of my head, there are two ways that I see doing this:

1) I create an HTML index that links to each separate chunk of script. Each chunk will be a straight TXT file. The piece just posted by MTH would be one such chunk.

2) I create an HTML index that links to each iteration of the entire script (again TXT files). This assumes the script will be kept as one pice throughout the process.

I would need an approval from InfoDroid to post each piece. Any edits would be sent to me via e-mail. For example, someone would download the TXT file from my site, make their changes in notepad or whatever, and send the new TXT file to me. One big question: Who should get editing rights?

If I may, I'd like to chime in on the whole Maul=Grievous thing.

At first I was very resistant to the idea, as it seemed like a real stretch. I have two problems that haven't been addressed here: First, it goes against the whole concept of two Sith - a master and an apprentice, unless the plan is to cut out the reference to the rule of two at the end of Episode I. I mean, even if we assume that it takes a while for Sidious to restore Maul/Grievous, there's still a time at the beginning of Episode III where there are two apprentices. Second, Maul/Grievous is a sith yet never uses a red lightsaber in Episode III. This could be fixed by rotoscoping though. I know he's collecting Jedi sabers, but at least one of his sabers should be a red sith saber. Ideally, it would be the repaired half of his original saber from Episode I.

Aside from these issues, I'm starting to warm up to the idea of Maul=Grievous. And this goes hand in hand with a comment I made a few pages ago about having Anakin/Vader actually die in the lava in Episode III:

2) In ROTJ, Vader says to Luke, "You don't understand the power of the dark side. I MUST obey." Why is this? Why does he have to obey? My impression of Vader is that it was always his hate (and tie to the dark side) that kept him alive inside the suit. So if he really did die in the lava, and Palpatine actually does use his Sith powers to bring him back from death, then vader has to obey in order to continue living. The second he ceases to serve the dark side, he begins to die.

What I'm getting at is, Sidious uses his Sith magic/technology to bring back Maul/Grievous from death and put him in a mechanical suit. If we have Vader die in Episode III, the Emperor ends up doing the exact same thing with him. We always hear about the power of the dark side, but we have yet to really see what that is (I think). I believe this process where we see a dead person come back alive in a mechanical suit IS the power of the dark side. It's their attempt at immortality.

We are indeed removing the entire aspect of Qui-Gon discovering the path to immortality. However, one of the more interesting aspects of this (which was unfortunately deleted from the final film) was the fact that the Sith were after immortality, but would never achieve it through their selfish means. In contrast, the Jedi obtain it through their selflessness. This is a powerful plot point that I wish we could bring back to the forefront, but the way things are looking in our saga it’s looking like it will be just as ignored as in the official version. It doesn’t necessarily have to be through Qui-Gon, but things are obviously set up that way.

According to my idea, followers of the dark side are able to achieve immortality by turining people into mechanical zombies. Followers of the light side, on the other hand, are able to do so by becoming one with the Force, as Qui-Gon discovers. This is a slightly daiiferent way to address the immortality issue from what Commander Courage mentioned, but it will address it somewhat.

And on a different note:

Confuse them it will, and lead them on a path to darkness. Until the time is right, unaware they must be." Or something along those lines to get the point across that Yoda and Obi-Wan had their reasons for keeping Anakin=Vader a secret, and planned to reveal it to them at the proper time.

Can we not find someone here who can do a passable Yoda impression? I'm serious. This could open up a whole world of possibilities.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to say I love the direction this thread is going in. The changes y'all are proposing for ROTJ are great. I might actually be able to watch the movie when this is finished. Using "Padme once thought as you do" in ROTJ is a bit of a stretch for me though. Does Luke even know his mother's name is Padme?

Spicing up the duel in ANH is an absolute must. InfoDroid, I really like the clip you posted, the only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the cue from ROTJ when the Falcon leaves the hangar. It was just jarring to hear that cue there, and it really stuck out to me.

As far as making Obi-Wan honest in ANH, I think it's a great idea, but I haven't seen anything yet that totally grabs me. Personally I don't care for the flashbacks that much.

I have another possible solution: have Anakin actually die in front of Obi-Wan in ROTS after he burns. This solves a few issues for me:

1) Ben's dishonesty in ANH is a little more believeable. If Anakin literally dies, it's more believable for Ben to say that Vader "murdered him".

3) Many people may not be fans of the Hayden ghost at the end of the ROTJ DVD, but it makes a lot more sense if Anakin really dies in ROTS. The Hayden ghost is what got me thinking about all this in the first place. When I saw the ROTJ DVD, I really expected that Lucas would have Anakin die in ROTS.

As far as how to accomplish this, I've just started to think about it. The scene where Anakin burns in front of Obi-Wan would have to be tweaked so that it appears that Anakin is motionless before Obi-Wan walks away. Then Palpatine would come and say something to the effect of, "I will help you, my friend" (I don't know if the source for these lines exists).

We would cut most of the scene of Vader being constructed since Anakin is obviously alive. Only keep the tail end of the scene where the helmet lowers on Anakin's scarred face. Perhaps it's possible to get a static image of Anakin's scarred face as the mask lowers, so that he appears dead up until that point of the first breath in the mask. I don't think the scene with Vader rising on the operating platform has to be changed.

I noticed that my cover for Classic Edition (ANH) wasn't on your "nonocp" page. Although Coov's covers blew mine out of the water, here's the link to mine if you'd like to add it for completeness sake:

Actually... I would not be surprised if anyone would prefer YOURS! That is some good work, I am sure he just overlooked it.

Coov, thanks for the compliment. That means a lot coming from you.

And ocpmovie, thanks for adding mine. This is a great resource!

Mono mix for Moth3r's ANH DVD
Time
Moth3r,

When I pop Dr. M's version in my computer and my standalone DVD player, it says the length is 02:01:10.

I actually tried to adjust your AC3 file to work with Dr. M's, but I didn't get very good results. Granted, I'm a noob. Using Sony Sound Forge, I changed the pitch by -69 cents, and this lengthened the clip to 02:01:03. I got -69 cents by taking the total time of the clip, multiplying it by 4.096%, and then adjusting the pitch until it was as close as possible to the total number. Things were close, but the sync was still off.

I've never seen your version, but Dr. M's has a THX intro. Does your AC3 file account for this intro?

.: The Lancer DVD Project :. (* unfinished project *)
Time
Tellan,

I confess I haven't really been following the work on your Lancer project until recently. Now that I see you're incorporating a mono soundtrack, many of DE's outstanding changes, PLUS tips from mverta, I'm hooked. I only wish the links to your screenshots and video samples were still active.

I have a few comments and questions:

I downloaded the sample menus, and they look great. My only issue is that the tumbnails for the chapters look a little small. Have you considered going with fewer, bigger thumbnails on each chapter page? As they are now, they work on the computer monitor, but I don't know how well they would work on a medium sized TV screen.

As far as the soundtracks go, are they all done? If they are, I say try to use them all. Maybe you can make two versions of the DVD: a dual layer version with all soundtracks, and a single layer version with option C. I wouldn't recommend doing only option B, since the DTS will be unplayable on some systems (like mine).

This may be a stupid question, but what version of the soundtrack ('85, '93, '97, '04) is the basis of the PCM 2.0, 5.1 DTS, and 5.1 Dolby Digital tracks?

IMHO, this release seems like it deserves the full dual layer treatment, regardless of the soundtrack issue. I'd hate to lose even the slightest amount of visual detail.

Do you have an expected release date for ANH?

Thanks!
Erik

Classic Edition: The Empire Strikes Back by Ocpmovie (Released)
Time
Coov,

I recommend going with a description on the back. I've always thought that these covers, even though they're unofficial, should still attempt to "sell" what's inside. I'd like to think that a novice Star Wars fan could pick up the case, and understand what this was by reading the back of the cover. So when someone comes to my house and notices all my Star Wars DVDs, they can read the cases to understand how each one is different.

That's just my take.
