You guys realise that Moth3r's transfer is equally sharp and detailed, has less grain and better colour fidelity, right?

But isn't Moth3r's transfer from the PAL source? I am in the US and don't want to take the risk of "flicker" or speed up.

Then you want Dr. M's "Reinventing the wheel" transfer. It's a conversion of Moth3r's capture to the NTSC format.

SomethingStarWarsRelated,

I like the idea of having the ships in the shot as the DS explodes.

The darkened rebel briefing looks cool, but I don't know if it really accomplishes anything.

Having it rain on Tatooine is a cool concept, but I don't think it would be possible to convincingly add rain in the shot (the rain would need to interact with the ground and/or Luke).

I actually like that line, Erik. It’s simple and to the point.

But I actually don’t have that line at this time. When I borrowed “Man with the Golden Gun”, I forgot to rip that line, as fate would have it. If there is no prominent background music in the film at that time, then I’d really like to use the line.

Again, I’d love it if some kind person with “Golden Gun” could rip that line (“Forget the girl; she’s replaceable”). I have all of the other useful Chris Lee lines from that movie- I just need that one. I could try and borrow the film again, but that takes time.

This help would be very much appreciated!

-------------------

How's this:

Anakin: Padme is probably dead right now, because of you. Any last words?
Dooku: Come, come. The girl is replaceable.
Anakin: I'm about to take your head off.
Dooku: You get as much fulfillment out of killing as I do!
Anakin charges.

Obi-Wan: Anakin! No!

It's hard to write the scene without knowing what tone of voice Lee uses for "The girl is replaceable."

If he really thought she was dead, there wouldn't be the mild aggression that he shows in the movie, but pure rage.

That's what the new ADR could be used for. Besides, I don't think he really thinks she's dead, but in case she is, Dooku must die a painful death. It's the thought that counts, anyway. The thing is, we have to establish that Dooku's general smug attitude makes Anakin run at him more quickly than he would have otherwise.

EDIT: I love the line, "Prepare to meet your destiny," Marvolo.

I'd love to see SOTDS edited so that Anakin's rage is played up after Padme falls. Maybe a few closeup shots of him looking disraught and distracted as the gunship continues to pursue Dooku.

Anakin: I'm about to take your head off.

This sounds a bit contrived. If you really were in a fit of rage, I doubt you'd stop to make this kind of statement. You'd just go right ahead and do it. In addition, "Any last words?" sounds like Anakin already knows he's going to take on Dooku by himself, before he's been provoked by Dooku.

I guess my point is, Anakin should be upset, but still fairly rational until provoked by Dooku. Once that happens, he snaps and goes for it by himself.

Just my thoughts.

How about:

Anakin: Padme's dead because of you. (as far as he knows, Padme IS dead).
Dooku: Come, Come. The girl is replaceable. (TM, don't you have this line?).
Anakin attacks, making some kind of attack yell.

I don't know if Anakin should state that Dooku directly made an attempt on Padme's life, because that's not the case. With the line I've suggested, the exact action is unclear, but the connection is there.

This may sound crazy, but I believe there are some shots of stuff in the desert blowing up in Mr & Mrs Smith.

But isn't that in black and white? Correct me if I'm wrong...

The Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie movie? It's not in B&W, but some desert scenes may be viewed through green-tinted binoculars.

As this clip demonstrates, I'm having to cheat a bit in the editing to imply something, much the way it was done in the original SW. But the last explosion in that clip (from Lawrence of Arabia) blends very badly with all of the other footage.

I'd hate to have to use this, but this is one of about two desert explosion clips that I have. Do any of you remember something similar from another film?

Adywan,

The new saber effects look really nice, much better than your previous attempt. The falcon spinning is brilliant.

Whatever you did with the Han shot and the Y-Wing, I can't see any difference.

The new Death Star clock looks pretty dim to me. At first I didn't even see it. Can the numbers be brightened?

The background in Luke's cockpit is a clever touch, but it kind of implies that the rebel fighters just go straight up into the sky. I'm not sure how I feel about that. The original movie leaves it unclear how the fighters get out of the temple. So is there just a big hole in the roof.

Tellan,

I've always thought your edits were going to be NTSC, because that's what the very first post in your thread says. You might want to change that.

I suggest:

Episode I - Naboo (the one you're already using)
Episode II - Mandalorian
Episode III - Mustafarian (I'm currently working on this one)
Episode IV - This is a hard one. No alien fonts were used, except for the markings on the TIE helmets. Maybe Aurebesh since it was used for the tractor beam label in the DVD version.
Episode V - The font used on the "Wampa room" door (I'm working on this one too)
Episode VI - Galactic Basic

Yes, many of these fonts are mine. I confess I'm partial to my own work

But we will still have Jar-Jar's speech. His character has to go somewhere in this movie; he has to be there for a reason. Just cutting him out doesn't seem to solve anything in the big picture.

Trooperman, I wasn't suggesting you cut Jar Jar's speech - just the visual closeups. It would be great if we could get the "meat" of Jar Jar's speech while only seeing him in the distance. Maybe we can even start to hear him as Mace walks in.

Palpatine: But what senator would have the courage to propose such a radical amendment?
Close-up of Jar. Wipe to next scene.

What I meant was... do we want to actually see Jar-Jar's speech or do we want it to be implied?

Here's what I recommend:

Wipe to Yoda and Mace looking over the senate (wait until Mace has stopped walking in to start the wipe). Jar Jar is talking in the backround. Subtitles state that he proposes giving emergency powers to the Chancellor. We hear some cheering.

(Cut closeups of Jar Jar, all the senators gesturing, and the "or-duh" guy.)

Cut to Palpatine standing up and saying: "It is with great reluctance ..." etc., giving his whole speech.

Pan back to Yoda and Mace. Mace says "It is done, then." Yoda reacts. Wipe to next scene.

That's the guy! What a dumb accent. "Emergency pow-ahs." It's even more irritating when you realize that that character should be Tarkin.

Actually, I'm not so sure. Tarkin was a Governor. It would have been unusual to have a Governor as the Chancellor's aide.

I had a look at this and you cannot see anything through the window so it could easily be explained away as part of the cockpit design so i won't be changing this.

There is once scene where you can see through the window. It's when the Falcon fires and Vader says "What!"

http://www.erikstormtrooper.com/vader_cockpit1.jpg

You can clearly see the trench flying by behind hm through the window, though only for a second or so.

It may be as easy as just painting that window in black for that one scene. Here's a very quick and rough attempt by me:

Sometimes the TIE & turret lasers were bright green with a yellow core then some weren't coloured and some even had a blue outer glow. I took the most coloured shots as reference for the re-colouring. The shot just after Luke says "This is Red 5. I'm going in" shows The intensity of the X-wing lasers. The shots below have been untouched to help explain it better:

Adywan,

Thanks for explaining. It seems Episode IV is in very capable hands.

All that said, I would like to propose something to you all. I know most, if not all fan edits, have a certain degree of secrecy to them. General items are discussed, but the specific details are kept secret until the final release. Even on such a community-driven project as Trooperman's there is a lack of specific disclosure. Anyway, what I'm getting at is things can either stay as they are on this project with little to no progress until all the pieces fall into place, OR, I can post verbatim the exact plans and outlines for everything. There is a certain appeal to the element of surprise, but as things stand now I really don't see the harm. Starkiller Ranch is about as community-driven as you can get. Perhaps having it all out there for everyone will provide the spark to jump-start things back into motion. The only real drawback I can see to such a complete disclosure is that people would get so caught up in arguing how things should be we wouldn't get anything done (as was a problem earlier in this thread). I'm no dictator; this is a democracy, but everyone is not going to agree with everything 100%. There has to be a final say on things, and I would suggest that final say be me, as eventually, I will be the one putting all this together.

Thoughts?

This is a good idea. Actually, I wasn't aware that we had shifted to a sort of "closed" development. Originally, snippets of script were posted for all to see. If there is some secret in this edit, then it would be best to keep that hidden, but I say that an openness about the other stuff would greatly help.

And CC, you have a PM.
