.: The XØ Project - Laserdisc on Steroids :. (SEE FIRST POST FOR UPDATES) (* unfinished project *)
Time

Going from memory, Laserman had some kind of hardware/software setup called "Black Magic" which allowed him to combine multiple video sources of a scene to get the most detail. I think he was using this to improve the image captured by the X0 player.

With Zion back on the scene (welcome back!), I'd like to re-propose that the raw captures be released.

Please, guys. Too much work went into this project to see it die.

One change I didn't get was removing the Ronto from the tail end of "Not the droids you're looking for." exchange scene. All the dialogue was done with, & it it was perfect the way the Stormtrooper stepped back to reveal the Ronto coming around the corner of the buildings. I understand why the probe droid was removed from the background during the exchange though.

If nothing else, we were beaten over the head with Rontos in the SE. There were 4 DIFFERENT Rontos wandering around Mos Eisley:

1. The one the Jawas are riding

2. The one that walks in front of the Landspeeder and sandtroopers

3. The one that walks behind the Landspeeder (the one Sevb32 was talking about)

4. The one that the Landspeeder passes as it heads to the Cantina. It's later seen in the background as they get out of the Landspeeder.

(Truth be told, there are 2 more in the background in a long shot)

Ady removes all of these except for #4. We really only need to see one of these. That was just overkill on Lucasfilm's part.

Thanks for the link! That's probably the coolest thing I've seen on SW.com for a while. I played around with the X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter theme for about 10 minutes, imagining a battle :)

If they release more soundbites (they're free of music), this could be a great resource for building a soundtrack for a fanedit.

The only thing I miss that has been removed for the Adywan version is the music from this shot:

Other than a few minor things I mentioned above, I think it's almost perfect. I would like to re-insert this shot back into the Adywan version. All I have for access to that shot right now is the '04 DVD and I don't think I can color correct it to exactly fit the rest of the color correction.

If you have the DVD9 of SW Revisited, there's a very similar shot in the final trailer that shows the TIEs firing. You could use that, and you'd just have to drop in some blaster sound effects.

JasonN's PT FanEdits (Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, & The Black Knight Rises) (Released) ** Revised V3 Cuts In The Works

JasonN,

Will there be torrents for the final DVDs? I've gotten interested in checking out your edits from all the buzz (or is it "fuss") they've caused in this thread ;)

I'm looking forward to watching your edit of Episode III. I've come to realize that Episode III is the true litmus test of a PT fanedit.

I haven't seen this mentioned, but in Episode III did you remove Dooku's stupid flip-jump from the balcony before the duel? God how I hate that.

I know. If I lived in the UK, I would totally be ady's volunteer assistant. Hell, I would pay HIM to work on this project. Just bringing him coffee, dusting the models, combing the wampa puppet, etc.

HA! I can picture it now.

Ady: "Dammit, Asterisk8! Did you COMB THE FRIGGIN WAMPA YET?!?"

Question about the 85 mix

Thanks. :)

new stereo'd effects (Jawa voices after Artoo's capture)

Would that have been newly recorded stuff or stuff recorded in 77?

Also, I'm ignorant on the technical stuff. What does sweetened sound effects mean?

I'm aware of one of the "sweetened" sound effects.

During the shootout in the detention block, there is an exploding sound as each of the camera thingies is shot. That was later changed to a more dynamic sound, which was actually based on the sound of a glass lantern being thrown to the ground in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

But this may have been changed for the 1993 mix, not the 1985 mix.

I respect Adywan's decision on the Falcon display, and I could go either way on the issue.

But I'd like to point out that in ANH (non-adywan version), we get a pretty pointless display of the gunner station screens during the Tie fighter attack. In ROTJ, we get to see the screens with text on them as Vader's shuttle approaches the DS II.

Granted, ESB has the best acting in the entire trilogy (and saga, needless to say). So it would be a shame to lose any of that great acting.

But I'm sure, if Adywan wanted to, he could find a way to include a shot of the Falcon's screen (he could always BUILD a panel), and just lengethen the scene, so that we don't lose any footage of the actors.

i did start a thread to try and ask someone from the SCI-FI3D site but the forums have moved over to TFN and my thread was deleted almost as soon as it was posted. I guess they don't like me messing with Lucas' work over there.

That is the saddest, lamest crap I've heard in a long time. And I've been dealing with a lot of crap lately.

Can your CG guy from Episode IV help you out with this?

EDIT: I know that the text should be backwards, but I was too tired to go through the trouble of making it backwards, sorry.

...now...I have to get some sleep.................................

Very nice! Subtle and not too flashy. I would maybe remove the box around the text though.

And of course, it's great to see Engli-Besh get some love!

There was a reason why i did a purist version for ANH:R and that reason doesn't count for ROTJ:R. In fact i might run a competition sometime to see if anyone can figure out the real reason behind the purist edition.

I'll take a guess. The purist edition was actually only purist in the audio sense. All the major sound/dialog changes were reverted to their original versions. So either the purist was a prototype for the ANH AVCHD version's audio, or it was an attempt to please someone who complained heavily about the alteration of the original soundtrack.

Watchmen Film

C3PX said:

Erik, since you liked the movie so much, I'd highly recommend checking out the graphic novel. I am honestly not a huge comic book guy, haven't really been into them since I was a teenager, but Watchmen is one I find myself coming back to even in adulthood, and I find it enjoyable page after page, no matter how many times I read it. The film followed the comic very closely, but reading it would really add a lot more depth to the film for you.

I might just do that. Thanks for the suggestion.

In the case of this movie, I'm glad I wasn't familiar with the graphic novel beforehand. It seems like a lot of people who've read the novel are having a hard time reconciling the differences. The one thing that most people agree on is that the opening credits were a masterpiece. I'm thinking that's because they were new to everybody.

Speaking of the opening credits, there's a scene where two guys are tied to a fire hydrant, with rorschach's calling card next to them. Are these 2 guys supposed to be someone in particular?

When my wife and I walked out of the theater, she wondered if there'd be a sequel. I said I didn't think the story would allow it. But, as much as I hate prequels, I'd pay to see a rorschach prequel (as long as they get the same actor).

Watchmen Film
Time

Well, I've never read the Watchmen comics. I first became interested in the movie after I saw the trailer with the Smashing Pumpkins song. I saw the movie Saturday night. So here's my "virgin" review:

I'd give it a 9 out of 10. This was a very engrossing, emotional, and overpowering film. When the movie was over, I realized my shirt was damp - I'd been sweating. It's one of those rare movies that, once it's over, I want to walk right back into the theater and see it again.

Rorschach was my favorite character. He had some great lines. Some of the gore we see in his scenes was a bit over the top, but the movie was just too good for that to make any difference for me. I was upset when he died in the end.

And the preponderence of blue dong was a bit too much, but I got over it.

I'd heard the end was different from the comic, and I expected the movie to take some really lame cop out, like Dr. Manhattan goes back in time and stops the bombs. But now that I've seen the movie and read up on the differences, I think the film ending was just as good as the comic ending.

I'll be recommending this movie to everyone I know.
