RETURN OF THE JEDI 1983 THEATRICAL VERSION RECONSTRUCTION DVD by Harmy (MKV, NTSC DVD5 AND PAL DVD9 AVAILABLE)
Time

Thanks to Chewtobacca's help, I was able to add Hairy Hen's new purist 5.1 mix to Harmy's awesome reconstruction. Yay!

Because of the size of HH's mix, the final files were just slightly larger than a DVD-5. I didn't want to bother with a DVD-9 and the layer break, so I had to run it through DVD shrink to get it to fit.

The final result is awesome!

What are all the Differences Between 1977 Theatrical Version and 1981 Re-release?

That's the main problem of the movie. The censorship. The novelization is full of blood, exploding heads, split bodies, cut body parts ... and the only thing you could see was the fake looking cut arm in the cantina sequence. And they cut even more "violence" out of the movie for the "special edition" :-(

But they left in the close up of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru's incinerated bodies. That image was quite gruesome when I was a kid.

I've always suspected the SE's toned down violence had to do with ratings. At the time SW was released, there was no PG-13 rating. By the time of the SEs, the images of people getting shot in the chest may have earned a PG-13. Officers in caps (which are the 2 instances of censorship) are more "human looking" than DS troopers in samurai helmets, so it's still acceptable for the DS troopers to take a hit in the chest.

A skeleton is scary, but it's not "human looking" enough.

This may sound ridiculous, but Ridley Scott's commentary for Gladiator confirmed that this is how the rating system works. He mentioned how the "human looking" factor played a part in Gladiator's rating.

Question about Star Wars Languages

Ah, I guess I never looked close enough to tell it wasn't Aurebesh.  My mistake.

Cue 90 posts in the ESB:R thread asking Ady to replace the X-wing screen text with Aurebesh...

(Actually, it would be a neat way to give R2 lines that only insanely die-hard fans can read...)

It's already been done, but with galactic Basic

Awesome!

Aren't Galactic Basic and Aurebesh the same thing (Aurebesh being the alphabet, Galactic Basic being the "language," which is English)?

Either way, that's awesome!  Is it gibberish, or did you give him lines?

Technically speaking, in regards to the EU, that's right. But Galactic Basic is also what I called my version of Aurebesh that's screen accurate to what we see in Return of the Jedi. It's slightly different from standard Aurebesh, but I tried to keep as many letters the same as I could.

Question about Star Wars Languages
Time

I sense a disturbance in the Force ...

Aurebesh was based on the characters that appear in Return of the Jedi, but it was not created until the 1990s by West End Games for the Star Wars role playing game. When West End Games created Aurebesh, they were clearly trying to emulate the font seen in Return of the Jedi, but many characters are different.

Nowhere in ANH or ESB does that same font from ROTJ appear. They are all different alphabets.

I'd love to make a font based on Luke's X-Wing screens, but the text is blurry even in the HD captures.

OK, I've now got Hairy_Hen's 5.1 purist mix. Do I use TS Muxer to add this ac3 to the DVD, as explained in this link?

Here are the new Empire and Jedi 5.1 mixes.  Aside from reverting the music back to how it was originally presented, everything sounds exactly the same as the previous versions.

Oh, and here's the Star Wars 70mm LFE channel as requested.  http://www.sendspace.com/file/q5dsqm

Are these new purist mixes available anywhere else? I cannot get this darn nakido site to work. Thanks!
