For those who watched the prequel BDs, did you find the sound for ROTS to be flat compared to the other 2?

I'll agree with Anchorhead about Lucas' (futile) attempts to steer the impact. But to some degree I think he has been successful in the short term.
In the late 90s, the whole "vision" of the saga started being pushed, with the emphasis on the path of the hero, redemption, Joseph Campbell, etc. People bought into it, and it made us have hopes that the prequels would be better. The hype may have been why so many of us initially had trouble seeing the problems with the prequels.
Lately, I do feel like there's been a cultural shift in the other direction. Time is not being kind to the prequels and the vision of the saga, as opposed to the OT which only gets better with age. In the end, I think it'll all shake out, and Lucas' attempts to steer the cultural impact won't count for much.
ARTWORK:
About the cover art, it irritates the heck out of me that Luke is not wearing his boots. It just looks like some random blond dude in khakis. Am I the only one bothered by this?
Also, with Luke being a ghost going in the other direction: The cover clearly tells us that the OT is dead and the PT/Saga is coming straight down our throats.

Any one seen the new Ultimate FX Lightsabers?
They look like force FX Lightsabers but are cheaper .
I bought the red Vader one for my 5 yo son. He's pretty rough on things, and it's held up so far.
It's definitely a toy, not a collectible like the previous FX sabers. It's made of all plastic, and the LEDs in the blade are kind of distinct. But the sounds are good (if a bit low compared to other FX).
Best of all, it's great in a three-way battle between me, my 5 yo, and my 8 yo son!

I've made a quick edit of the Bunker Raid scene:
This was pretty good. Well edited!
Wrong Lucas daughter. You're thinking of Amanda Lucas.
Frink, I don't hold your undecidedness against you. There are things on this set I'd love to see, but it's not worth $80 to me - more like $40.
It's funny how some people say you can't complain unless you've seen the discs.
Then others say you can't complain if you buy the discs.
Me? I just remember the words of Katie Lucas: "haters gonna hate. And then haters are going to buy the bluray set and keep complaining"
(and I hope this thread calms down before that big pulsing vein in DJ's head explodes)
I think Bill Hunt gave a fair review. He reviewed the set according to the quality of its contents, which is all a reviewer can do. His video/audio ratings seem reasonable for the most part, but Episodes I and II probably should have been a little lower. He pointed out all the major flaws of the set.
He seems to understand our feelings, respect them, and even share them. I wouldn't be surprised if he's got Harmy's versions.
I have readable copies of all 3 GKar discs. I'll gladly mail them to someone if they promise to upload them somewhere.
I don't think the low Amazon rating is in any way dishonest, misleading, or deceptive. The purpose is to RAISE AWARENESS and VOICE DISPLEASURE.
So many people don't know that these versions are not the originals. This is one way we can get that message out.
Lucas may be insulated from the real opinion of a lot of fans. The backlash on Amazon may help him to see how many people really feel. It can give him some numbers to chew on.

Is this a still or the whole cartoon?

This thread is now reminding me of when TPM was first in theatres and I heard that Maul was going to be cut in two. I thought we the audience would get to see the "meat" of Maul's exposed innards, that the scene was going to be as gory as gory could get in a PG movie.
But we got CG Maul coming apart like a broken action figure instead.Would TPM somehow be a better movie for the inclusion of guts and gore in this scene?
I think that's the question at hand.
No. Maul guts do not balance out Jar Jar. Just like deep-fried Anakin does not balance out battle droids with high-pitched voices.
How about the idea of making the Niemodians slave traders? I always like the idea that the galactic dispute is over slavery, hence the Niemodians' obvious evil motives.
Also, I think the beginning of the movie needs to happen much faster. It's too slow as is. What about starting the movie right off with the invasion of Naboo?
Very cool. So what would the width be if you increased the height to 5 inches?
Great decision. I think Anchorhead will make a great mod. Congratulations!
I've seen several articles mention that more TIE fighters have been added to the "Here they come" scene in ROTJ. But the video samples they show look the same to me. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
The general outrage over this release is really starting to get a lot of coverage. It was even mentioned on my local morning radio talk show today. Needless to say, they were not in favor of the NOOOOOOOOO!
And we are still about 2 weeks away from the release - this can only grow bigger. I need to get some "Save Star Wars" stickers soon!
Is it wrong for me to admit I've been rolling in the schadenfreude lately? Thanks George, we're all preservationists now.
Like I said, I really think this is Lucas' New Coke moment.

Commentary from constructed archive material? Star Wars Begins rip off, anyone?
Actually, the 2004 commentaries are obviously culled from interviews, with the possible exception of Kershner. The Lucas bits are especially bad.
Why they can't just sit some people down in front of a TV with a mic? Those are always the best. I have zero interest in these new pieced-together tracks.
The secret weapon of the first X0 Project was really Laserman's "Black Magic" process, not the X0 player itself. What exactly "Black Magic" was, no one is sure. It was hinted at that it was some kind of professional hardware/software suite.
If you can figure out how to recreate the results of "Black Magic," my hat's off to you.
Welcome Drunken Jedi Master!
005 has made some excellent suggestions. Another preservation to check out is Dark Jedi's GOUT upscales.
There are details on how to obtain each of these in their respective threads.

Bill Hunt shares some great opinions on the BDs and SW in general over at thedigitalbits. Here's a small taste:
Predictably, the online geek community is aflame today. Here's the thing: I'm really having a hard time getting worked up about it. We've just been through this too many times now. Every time these films are released, Lucas tweaks and changes them some more. And the tweaks and changes don't really improve the films, they just make them... different. The fact is, Star Wars stopped being what I loved and remembered a very LONG time ago. The combination of the prequels, repeated digital nips and tucks to the originals (Episode IV now reminds me more of Joan Rivers than a beloved classic film), the obvious BS about the original versions "no longer existing", etc, etc - it's all left me feeling fairly ambivalent about Star Wars.

Man, I could really go for some "New Coke" about now.
;)
With all due respect to Adywan, the classic is the Original Theatrical Trilogy, which George has suppressed.
Just remember what happened to Classic Coke after New Coke bombed.

Seeing modern Lucas with his constant revisionism, I really have to wonder if he ever snuck any changes into the theatrical re-releases and home releases in the 80s.
I know we have a few bootlegs for comparison. But what if these were minor tweaks that might not register in the bootlegs?
The ewok eyes are not that bad. It's a subtle fix that adds to the believability. It says a lot though about Lucasfilm's priorities. I'm not surprised - I had a feeling George wouldn't be able to help himself.
This is a lot like 2004 all over again: the movies are long overdue on the latest home video format. Finally! But what the hell are all these changes!? They must be fake. This is an outrage. The originals must be preserved.
I think we'll be seeing a lot of new people joining OT.com as a result of this release.
Does everyone still think the 3D versions won't have additional changes?
