What is your favorite versions of the following movies: Apocalypse Now, Alien, Aliens, Blade Runner and Terminator 2?
Time

Apocalypse Now - Theatrical all the way. Can't stand the Redux cut.

Alien - Theatrical as well, but I don't hate the DC. I just think the Dallas coccoon scene kills the pacing of the last act.

Aliens - Special Edition overall, though I'd prefer a version without the pre-Marine-landing colonist scenes.

Blade Runner - Final Cut overall, though I eventually want to do a fan edit that recreates the Final Cut with original footage (to keep the old effects and color timing), removes the unicorn vision, and restores the "fucker" line.

Terminator 2 - Either one. I guess I probably prefer the extended cut for the scene where they flip the switch on the T-800's processor, but like Harmy said, it depends on how long a movie I feel like watching at the time.

I'd also like to throw in a mention of Kingdom of Heaven, because if you've only seen the theatrical cut of that movie, you owe it to yourself to track down the Director's Cut. It's one of my favorite historical epic movies of all time, but the studio butchered it for theaters.

And since I'm already throwing in more movies than the topic asks for, and no one I've ever talked to agrees with me on this:

The Fellowship of the Ring - Extended Edition

The Two Towers - Extended Edition

The Return of the King - Theatrical Cut

ROTK is just too bloated in it's EE form, but the first two movies benefit greatly from their extra scenes.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

I'm predicting a short (~60sec) teaser attached to Battle of the Five Armies, then a full first trailer (~2m30s) in May, possibly attached to Age of Ultron.

I understand the idea behind pairing teasers/trailers to Into the Woods and Tomorrowland, but I think they'd rather get the trailers out to as many people as possible ASAP rather than trying to use the lure of a Star Wars trailer to increase sales for movies that aren't going to be guaranteed successes. Hobbit 3 and Avengers 2 are guaranteed successes - a LOT of people will be seeing them, which means a LOT of people will be seeing previews for the new Star Wars, increasing buzz for the movie.

Of course, I could be wrong.

What are you reading?
Time

I've been going through the post-ROTJ "Legends" EU for a while now. It's slower going than I'd like, but so far I've read Truce at Bakura (good), Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor (excellent), X-Wing: Rogue Squadron (good), and I'm currently halfway through X-Wing: Wedge's Gamble.

At the risk of being overly self-promoting, I've been reviewing each one on a blog I started after I finished Bakura. The ads aren't mine, they're all wordpress's, so I don't make a dime off of the blog at the moment. Eventually I may try to monetize it if traffic becomes consistent, but first I have to, you know, post something more than once a month (or read faster).

The Truce at Bakura review

The Shadows of Mindor review

X-Wing: Rogue Squadron review

I would just copy/paste the reviews here, but ... well ... they're long. Possibly too long even for the blog. But if anyone's interested in my reviews, they're right over there.

I'm genuinely surprised by the number of people that seem to have hated the finale (and this series in general).

That scene of Twelve beating up the TARDIS console in frustration and anger alone would have made me love the episode, but couple that with Michelle Gomez's truly psychotic (and drum-less!) Master, the fact that Moffat actually kept Danny dead, and the great final Twelve/Clara scene where neither can bring themselves to tell the other the truth ... man. It's certainly the best new-Who finale since The Big Bang for me.

Sure, there were aspects that I didn't like, but it wasn't nearly as egregious as the previous two Master finales (Last of the Time Lords and The End of Time), which I truly hated.

**RUMOR** Original theatrical cut of the OT to be released on blu ray!!
Time

Or it could be a 2014/15 SE that "fixes" some of the more egregious 97/04/11 changes first, then the OOT later. I wouldn't mind an SE that ditches, for instance, the Hayden ghost, the "Noooo," and uses the new ROTJ end music but ditches the galaxy-wide celebrations in order to fit with the new trilogy better.

...As long as they release the OOT at or near the same time as the "final" SE.

The inisistence on calling something by its old title when it was renamed over thirty years ago seems to me plain stupid.

Oh, so I have to call it Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark from now on just because George decided I have to? Fuck that. I'll keep calling it Raiders of the Lost Ark, thank you, and I'll do the same for Star Wars.

Yeah, the Master is dead.

Just like he could never have made it out of Gallifrey alive after The End of Time.

Just like he was dead at the end of Last of the Time Lords.

Just like he was dead at the end of the TV movie.

Just like he could never have made it off of the Cheetah Planet before it broke up at the end of Survival.

...I would go on, but this would get very long indeed if I did.

No, the Master/Mistress isn't dead. She'll be back. Hopefully sooner rather than later ... and I really hope Michelle Gomez returns, too! Easily the best Master since Delgado (or at least close to being tied with Big Finish audio's Beevers and Macqueen).

Whatever became of the "don't cremate me" arc? It just stopped. Was it true, or was it an unfortunate side effect of preserving the minds, or was it just part of the Master's distraction?

I think it was part of the Master's ruse to get people to willingly delete their emotions.

Who like The Force Awakens as a title?
Time

Alright, this is the last one (er...four), I promise.

This time I used no actual elements from the officially-released logo, unlike my other attempts which used nothing but cut-out and moved-around elements of the official logo (yes, even the Star Wars and the bars were made from cutting-and-pasting).

Here, I actually used the Serif Gothic Heavy with custom kerning to create a new logo. It's the same font as the official one, but this is much higher-quality (and consistent quality since all resizing was done in the Photoshop type tool, not rasterized), and I had a bit more control over the type this way.

The Star Wars and the bars were just cut out from a vector Empire Strikes Back logo, which I straightened in Photoshop. While doing this, I decided I liked the bar along the bottom, so I did a version with it and a version without it. I also decided to do a version with a yellow Star Wars border like I'd done before, and one with a white logo like Empire always had.

So here you go! I think my favorite is the yellow border with the bar on the bottom, but I like all four (for once) - right-click and "view" or "save" image for the full 1920x1080 size:
