Well, this is interesting.
I took a short break from my Dune Messiah edit to make ... well ... essentially this for my brother's Christmas present, and I just finished it (the first movie) today.
I was considering releasing it, but it's pretty damn similar to yours, so I doubt I will. It's not exactly the same - I didn't use "Rookies" or "ARC Troopers," and I added in the Ryloth scenes from "Supply Lines" to set up my Part II (which will use the Ryloth arc as the backbone the way my first one used the Cristophsis arc).Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks that a pretty great series of movies can be made out of the (surprisingly good) show!
Matte lines weren't removed for the Faces set. It's the same transfer as the 93 Definitive Collection and the GOUT.
It was, but it's back up now.
Well, isn't the DVD/HDTV the same as the digital theatrical cut? The 35mm theatrical cut is the one that was different, but not by all that much (it's missing the extended garage scene between Padme and Anakin, and has an alternate shot of Anakin's metal hand at the end - can't recall any differences beyond that).
No.
Here's what's canon right now:
And that's it.
Everything that comes out from now on is canon, though, including Heir to the Jedi, Dark Disciple, all the new Marvel comics (Star Wars, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, and Kanan), etc. The only exception to this are further updates/expansions to The Old Republic, which will remain part of Legends (non-canon).
Wow, that looks really good. Very little lost detail in the removed-subtitles image.
3d copies are almost ALWAYS a bit brighter in order to compensate for the fact that 3d glasses have a slight tint to them.
You took the words out of my mouth, canofhumdingers.
According to Starwars.com back when TPM was in post-production, they used
ITC Franklin Gothic Demi Bold, 69 point with -30 tracking
for Episode I.
...Yeah, they made an actual font announcement. I know.
I'd prefer them burned in and theatrically accurate (fades and all), like they are in Harmy's Despecialized and schorman's AOTC HDTV release. But that's just my preference, of course, and it's your release, so do it however you want! Either way is better than the crappy burned-in ones on the HDTV version.
(I'll probably just make my own version with burned-in subtitles for myself if you stick with the .ass/.srt method, anyway.)
Well, the fact that you can use a DVD source for that shot, and that you're going with more theatrical-based subtitles mean I can probably throw out the half-assed version I made with the LD rip and schorman's HDTV from MySpleen. I didn't bother doing much with the upscale beyond a Lanczos resize in VirtualDub.
Looking forward to this!
Also, I have a .PSD that I made at 720p resolution of all the subtitles used in the movie. I'm not sure if they're 100% theatrically accurate (I stopped bothering with them when I saw schorman's HDTV had burned-in subs), but if you want them without doing so much work I can fix them up based on AOTC's theatrical subs (don't have a TPM reference) and send them to you.
Use ImgBurn, select "Write files/folders to disc," add the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders to the list, and burn using UDF filesystem, 2.50 revision. (If you forget the UDF 2.50 bit, it should ask you if you're burning a Blu-Ray format disc - just hit "Yes" and it'll set those for you.)
The only name I don't like much is Kylo Ren. Finn and Rey are fine (though I prefer Kira from all the supposed "leaks"), and Poe Dameron is okay. He'll probably go by Dameron, which I like better than Poe.
Kylo Ren, on the other hand, sounds like an old EU name. It might grow on me, it might not. We'll see.
I will say that the Excalisaber has grown on me by now. As long as the crossguard doesn't turn into full-length blades at any point, I'm cool with it.
Definitely digging the marketing, though - these cards were a pretty awesome idea, and it definitely plays on the '70s/'80s nostalgia factor to a large degree, which is probably the best thing they can do as far as marketing a new Star Wars movie after the SE's and prequels.
If you only have a stereo system, you should go for one of the stereo mixes.
I love the mono mix myself, but as far as pure audio quality goes, the stereo mixes are superior. But the mono mix has so many unique differences that it's at least worth a listen all the way through once.
Personally, if you want the best overall audio quality, I'd go with the 1977 stereo mix. As CatBus said, the 1985 mix (which is the one I grew up with) has limited dynamic range, though the 1977 stereo mix has a narrower stereo field, so frankly it's kind of a toss-up between 1977 stereo and 1985 stereo. I'd still give the edge to 1977 stereo.

Also, no one should make a cent off this work, and I guarantee Harmy agrees with me.
Yes, absolutely. I wouldn't have bothered quote-replying, but this bears repeating.
I'd like to politely request that people stop private messaging me offering to pay me to burn them a BD-R copy and mail it out.
I'm more than willing to offer technical assistance to anyone who's confused or having issues, but none of this is very hard to do, and I'm not going to burn you a copy now only for you to PM me every time Harmy comes out with a new version.
Teach a man to fish, and all that.
Question for those who've seen the entirety of the 2008 3D-animated The Clone Wars series:
Does Death Watch (or other Mandalorians) ever use more color in their armor, or am I stuck looking at a bunch of blue-and-grey Jango Fetts for the rest of the series?
I'm only halfway through Season 4 right now (just watched "A Friend in Need," which prompted my question), so please, no plot spoilers if possible.
Mine works just fine on my PS4.
What did you burn? The ~7GB AVCHD or the ~18GB MKV? Did you burn it onto a DVD-R DL or BD-R? What software did you use? If you used the MKV, did you convert it to a BDMV folder first, or are you just playing an MKV file that's on a disc (which the PS4 definitely wouldn't support, but many Blu-Ray players would)?

The 2003 Clone Wars cartoon is no longer canon (the 2008 series contradicts it too many times, I think).
Actually they went out of their way to avoid everything covered in Tartakovsky's Clone Wars. So it still fits in perfectly with the later show. Though since George wasn't personally involved in the project it's been discarded.
Your list also leaves out the novelizations of all the films.
Novelizations are in a sort of grey area right now. I haven't seen any official comment on their canon/non-canon status since the "Legends" business. Same with the radio dramas.
And I've been watching the 2008 series through for the first time, and there are definitely contradictions with the 2003 series. Assaj Ventress is implied to have been recruited in a different way than depicted in the 2003 series; it's heavily implied that the events with Kit Fisto on Mon Calamari in the 2003 series never happened (and they're more or less remade in season 4's "Water War" trilogy); General Grievous has his cough, which he didn't get until just before ROTS according to the 2003 series; and, going chronologically, the Jedi starfighter design changes to the ROTS design too soon in the 2003 series. There may be more contradictions the further I get in the 2008 series, but as of now, I'm finding it slightly difficult (though not completely impossible) to reconcile the two in the same continuity.
Also, I 100% agree with Anchorhead's point of view on this. I'll consider whatever I want "canon" just like I do with Doctor Who. I was just listing what the official word is from Lucasfilm/Disney, nothing more.
And personally, despite the contradictions, I still count the 2003 Clone Wars in "my" canon along with the 2008 show.
Exactly. They were canon until Disney announced they were wiping the canon slate clean, but they most certainly aren't canon now, and haven't been for over a year. (Two years? When did Disney announce the "Legends" thing?)
Since it seems we're all doing this now:
There. I don't think I've forgotten anything important.

Obviously Greg Dean has missed the point. Also, thanks for the insult.
Greg Dean needs to learn what 'canon' means.
Personally, I think 'canon' can be arbitrary, depending on the fan. But I wanted to ask what exactly is /officially/ supposed to be canon for Star Wars. Just the numbered movies? Which edits of the movies?
...
Jedi Rocks is not canon, thanks.
Officially, this is what's canon since the Disney merger:
And everything else that comes out from now on.
The 2003 Clone Wars cartoon is no longer canon (the 2008 series contradicts it too many times, I think). I don't think it's been officially stated which versions of the films are canon, but I'd assume it's the most recent Blu-Ray releases.
Which would, unfortunately, mean that Jedi Rocks is canon.
Sorry.
Ah, I was worried they may have been burned in from the start. That's a shame. I don't know anything about the original .TS recordings myself, though, I don't even know where to find them.
Yes.
Current releases:
Star Wars - v2.5 - available as a ~7GB AVCHD and a ~18GB MKV
Empire - v2.0 - available as a ~7GB AVCHD and a ~20GB MKV
Jedi - v1.0 - only available as a ~7GB AVCHD
There's also AVCHD releases for v1.0 of Star Wars and Empire, and an AVCHD and ~18GB MKV of v2.0 and (I think) v2.1 of Star Wars.
I have no issue with the burned-in subs, but I wish the TPM subs looked more like the AOTC ones. The AOTC subs look like I remember them looking in the theater, while the TPM ones look like Blu-Ray player-generated ones.
Otherwise, great work on these! BD-R copies of your TPM and AOTC have now replaced the official discs in my Blu-Ray set. (I still prefer the official BR ROTS overall, and I'll never watch the 1997 or later versions of the OT anyway, so I didn't bother downloading those four.)
