They start running back to the transports, but then they turn around. Rose asks them where they are and tells them to leave without them (which makes my eyes roll, since this is sort of a spit in the face to their interaction at the Battle of Crait. Finn wants to sacrifice himself again and Rose is like “okay”) But then, during Palpatine’s speech to Rey, as they’re watching the Resistance be destroyed, it looks like Finn and Jannah are actually running back toward the transports. But then, next time we see them, they’re standing right next to the turbolaser they were hacking into when he had his convo with Rose. Idk, I guess it is nice for these ex-stormtroopers to have the opportunity to kill their former masters, but this sort of thematically contradicts Finn’s story in TLJ. But I guess if your preferred edit cuts all of that shit out, then it doesn’t matter.

In the novelization, Rose asks Finn what he’s doing and he responds “saving what I love.” I guess she lets him because she understands he’s doing it for the right reasons? Honestly, if that had made it into the movie it probably would have gotten eye rolls for the opposite reason (although I still wish they had left it in because that conversation in the movie was way too short).

Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread

I actually think it would be much easier to just remove all lines referring to the First Order stormtroopers being taken as children. I think it was just a few lines in TFA that mentioned it, so it should be pretty easy. It would make Finn’s decision to leave seem more unique, as if he was one of the few troopers who didn’t support genocidal fascism. It would also make it less weird that he kills his former comrades without a second thought.

That’s a good idea too. Plus, I feel like knowing that he, at some point, chose to enlist in the First Order would make him feel like he has more of a character.

They’re not going to retcon the Sequel Trilogy. Like how the previous generation had to come to terms with the prequels being forever a part of Star Wars, the current generation will have to come to terms with the sequels. There’s hope for them to be slowly improved and augmented with ancillary material - what you could consider a slow retconning, maybe - as the prequels were,

Yes and no–when Disney took over Lucasarts, they erased all of the prequel era ancillary material.

What are you talking about? They erased almost all ancillary material, period. The Clone Wars was one of the only things they left in. And a lot of other famous prequel material like CW03 and Republic Commando had already been decanonized in favor of The Clone Wars.

Also, the Holiday Special totally retcons Palpatine’s resurrection in TROS. Star Wars is saved!

Retcons it how? All they did was make jokes about how implausible it was.

Well, it doesn’t actually happen. Kylo tells Palpatine that he dies when Vader throws him down a reactor shaft, and when that actually happens, he falls all the way into the explosion. I believe the canon explanation for Palptine’s return is that there was a clone body waiting for him on Exegol, and during the fall to his death, he projected his own spirit across the galaxy into that body. Doesn’t happen in the Holiday Special!

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Although you could argue that only happens because Rey intervened so Palpatine had a lot more on his mind, and he just forgot to transfer his consciousness to Exegol.
Maybe this is the time divergence that those “leaks” were talking about.

I haven’t looked through all 3,000+ replies to this topic, so forgive me if someone has already pitched this.

Is there a feasible way to remove both Snoke and Palpatine from the entire sequel trilogy, and have Kylo Ren as the sole main villain?

Getting rid of Snoke in The Force Awakens is no problem, he only has a few scenes.

The Last Jedi would be a bit more of a problem. The Snoke’s Throne Room scene would have to go, or at least be heavily altered.

Snoke isn’t a problem in Rise of Skywalker, but the Emperor poses some major issues. The Force battle finale on the ground on Exegol would have to go. Maybe the space battle could be salvaged, but Rey v Grandpa Sheev would definitely get cut. Maybe the Rey/Kylo lightsaber fight on the Death Star wreckage could serve as the final battle?

Anyone has any suggestions on how to make this crazy idea work, hit me back!

I think this could work reasonably well as a 2-in-1 edit of TFA and TLJ. I’m not so sure there are any parts of TROS that are worth salvaging (or even useable for a project like this).

Other than that just edit out any scene involving Snoke and any reference to him. Make Kylo turn to the dark side simply because of his ambition and his Vader fanboyism. Luckily both of the sequel trilogy’s big baddies feel pretty tacked-on and don’t really connect to any of the backstory until Rey becomes a Palpatine, so this idea could be feasible and could even make for a stronger story.

I actually had an idea kind of similar to this, though I don’t remember posting it. Basically, remove the cave scene and its aftermath from TLJ. Instead, reinstate the “caretaker village” deleted scene and have Rey leave the planet right after it - this way it seems like she’s going to go help the resistance herself instead of confronting Kylo. Then she doesn’t reappear until the battle of Crait.

The Mandalorian Luke Skywalker Deepfake by Shamook

A definite improvement. The only time it still looks noticeably fake is when Luke’s eyebrows move while he says “he won’t be safe until he masters his abilities.” But the stills themselves look incredibly convincing, which is more than I can say for the way it appears in the episode.

You know, Luke’s line about how “he will not be safe until he masters his abilities” got me thinking about Rey a bit… I feel like everyone’s main complaint about her is how far she got without training, and this show only seems to be emphasizing that. With so many of the new shows taking place between episodes 6 and 7, and Moff Gideon’s story starting to hint at connections to the Sith loyalists, I wouldn’t be too surprised if somewhere down the line they revealed that Rey actually did get trained, and just forgot about it like she forgot about her parents.

That way you have a clean slate post ROTJ, while keeping The ST confined to it’s own timeline.

Have your cake, and eat it too.

Honestly, I think one could make the argument that all of Filoni’s series take place in a slightly different timeline from the movies. Even with the brief Hayden Christensen voice clips in TCW season 7, I still don’t buy that Anakin from The Clone Wars would fall for what Anakin falls for in Revenge of the Sith (I mean, he would still become Vader, but it would take a lot more convincing). But this isn’t the right thread for that.

Back to the latest episode of Mando, was it just me, or has Ludwig Gorranson not used any of John Williams’ original motifs aside from the Force Theme? When Luke fights the Dark Troopers, there’s clearly a recurring melody, but it isn’t anything I recognize - which is weird because the tune is in harmonic minor, the same scale as The Jedi Steps, another suspenseful piece used to build up that Luke Skywalker is a big deal. So why not incorporate that?

But damn I got serious rogue one vibes out of that Hallway scene.
Like father, like son. Ey? 😉

Was Grogu at Luke’s school when Ben/Kylo killed a bunch of other students? Is Luke going to take Grogu somewhere else?

Well, that doesn’t happen until 28 aby, while this show starts in 5 aby, and given that Grogu has already had some training, he’ll probably have graduated by then.

The whole child-soldier thing really bugs me about the ST. In the OT - I felt the battle between the empire and the rebels was fairly morally unambiguous. The empire was evil - the people fighting for it were likely culpable. But the element of recruiting child soldiers in the ST really makes me feel bad for the Stormtroopers and Officers who are killed.

Option B) Keep stormtroopers being child soldiers, but alter Finn and Poe’s blaster effects in IX to make it seem like they are stunning stormtroopers rather than killing them. This would at least make it seem like they are aware of the implications of their actions, and are actively trying to avoid killing people who were child soldiers, just like Finn. And you could potentially give the Sith troopers clone voices as well. Technically they’re child soldiers, too, but they weren’t taken from a family like Finn and Jannah were.

My time has come!
