I guess I should explain. I wanted to have more shots of aliens throughout the galaxy reacting to the video, but I couldn’t find very many that were long enough or that had neutral enough backgrounds. Then I remembered that for some reason that shot of Aftab Ackbar during the resistance briefing works really well with optical flow, meaning I could make it as long as I wanted, and because he has a relatively simple head shape I could mask him out and put him somewhere else. Problem is I don’t really know how to add light to the shot in a way that makes it look like he’s watching a bright screen, and the background inadvertently makes it look like he’s in a dungeon. But basically, the idea is that he’s in a random place far away, watching Luke’s sacrifice on a screen slightly above eye level and being inspired to join the resistance, which is when we see him next.

Well, it took 3 hours and still needs a ton of work, but here’s a mockup of what my idea would look like:

This started as more of a rewrite idea, but it’s theoretically possible to do this with editing (and also this thread has way more traffic than the rewrite ideas thread), so I’m posting it here:
One of the main ideas that a lot of fan edits are seeking to expand is the way Luke Skywalker’s sacrifice inspired the galaxy to rise up against the First Order, but that kind of raises the question as to how they know about it. So what if… the First Order broadcast the Battle of Crait? We take footage of Luke getting blasted by a hundred AT-M6’s at once, put some filters on it to make it look like it’s playing on a screen, and then add as many shots as we can of people throughout the galaxy reacting to it. Then, as the dust clears, we see the silhouette of Luke still there, and just as his face becomes visible, the video cuts out and we see the viewers react in shock and awe.

Palpatine created Jar Jar, to serve as a pawn in his scheme to get elected chancellor, the same way he created Snoke. That’s where the name “Jar Jar” comes from.

I actually like the line “Somehow, Palpatine returned.” Sure, it’s not the most creative, but it feels like what a person would actually say in that situation, and Oscar Isaac’s hopeless delivery really sells it for me.

You say “compact-smelting-furnace” as if that’s any sort of a stretch in this universe.

This might sound crazy, but with how many animated Justice League movies there are, I wonder if it would be possible to cut together an animated conclusion to the Apokolips story…

Yeah. I would probably remove that whole line, to be honest. Hearing Leia say that someone “seduced (her) son” makes me uncomfortable no matter what pronouns you use or whether you follow it up with “to the dark side.”

I’d be interested, but where would we even find audio of the Sith language? I can’t think of an instance of it being spoken in the movies. I guess KOTOR has a lot of alien voice lines, but I can’t remember any of them that sound like Palpatine.

That’s interesting. I could see that working - someone would just have to think of a phrase to the effect of “We’re going to Exegol” but that matches the lip movements of “tell him we’ve found our spy”. Challenging, but not impossible.

Make every line of dialogue in the series out-of-sync with the mouth movements, to really sell the idea that the characters aren’t actually speaking English.

I agree for the most part, but that “once we can co-” line sounds perfectly in-character to me.

I don’t like it, I don’t agree with it, but I accept it.

That’s just, like, the sparknotes version of what actually happens.
