What If? Canon-Divergent Story Ideas Thread
Time

So far, officially-licensed Star Wars materials have given us three alternate timelines, in the form of the Star Wars: Infinities series. These comics let us know what would have happened if Luke had failed to blow up the Death Star, if Luke had frozen to death on Hoth, and if C-3P0 had stopped working when the heroes needed him most.

That got me thinking, how many other interesting “What If?” scenarios can we make out of the complex Star Wars story? Eg. what if Yoda had defeated Palpatine during their duel in the Senate? What if R2 had gone straight to Ben Kenobi instead of getting captured by the Jawas? What if Luke had decided to join Vader at the end of Empire Strikes Back?

Let your mind run wild!

I just found this edit I made a couple years ago, of the confrontation between Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padme.
The sound is pretty bad, but basically:

  • Changed the music under Anakin’s conversation with Padme to emphasize how dangerous he’s become.
  • Anakin chokes Padme simply because he’s paranoid, and Obi-Wan only reveals himself to tell Anakin to stop.
  • Rearranged Obi-Wan’s “lecture” and incorporated clips from the game to make it seem like Obi-Wan cares more.

Lol If you want to give it a try. I was thinking “Mister” Palpatine, but maybe “Mister Supreme Chancellor”? To match the movement of the mouth. Mister and Master are close.

We actually don’t see the kid’s mouth when he says “Master Skywalker” so he can pretty much say whatever we want.

If anybody was looking for a less MIDI-ey version of the trailer music to use anywhere in their edit, Baltic House Orchestra did a version that seems to have been genuinely done by an, uh… Orchestra, so it might fit better.

That’s not an orchestra. It’s just different instrumentation plug-ins than what Kim used.

I couldn’t tell the difference.

Okay, but can we keep the music transition? In the Force Awakens credits music, the Rey’s theme / force theme hybrid is followed immediately by a rendition of the Rebel fanfare, the first note of which is the same one the Solo soundtrack uses to lead into the credits.
And when you combine them it matches with the Falcon jumping to lightspeed.

Also I don’t know how it can be done, maybe by muting 3PO,but what do people think of adding the Stsr Tours clip of the Battle of Exegol into the film to extend the space battle? Personally I thought the battle itself was too short for a final fight

I agree, and after looking it up I would say there are definitely some good shots in there, but all I can finnd of the ride is just second-hand phone footage with the 3d double-vision effect still on. Do you know of a higher quality version online somewhere?

And can somebody make a video explaining this in a less obnoxious way?

Summing it up, they reused the same fight scene twice, but using different angles and adding different VFX to the first one to make it different from the second one (the intended-as-original).

Damn, now I won’t be unable to unsee it :´(

Wow. I had assumed the over-the-top pacing was because the scenes were cut down, but maybe they just didn’t shoot enough.

Hey folks, not sure if someone brought this up.
https://youtu.be/ECnectUdeOo?t=122

Here, the narrator brings up a very interesting point:
When Rey fights those Red Guards/Sith Troopers after giving her saber to Kylo, they show the same action TWICE.

Like, she kills 6 guards, then we cut to Ben killing some more Knights of Ren, and then she kills those same 6 guards again, simply shot from various different angles, as if they were complete different set of guards.

Which, once you see it, holy shit, you can’t UNsee it.

Was this already talked about/did someone already fix this?

And can somebody make a video explaining this in a less obnoxious way?

That’s what I thought too at first, but then I noticed that when Chewie shoots a stormtrooper with one of their own blasters, it shoots sparks upon impact, but when Hux gets shot with the same kind of blaster, there are no sparks. So one could argue that the explosive contact depends on whether the target is wearing armor, not on the type of blaster bolt.

When I first saw the start of the lightspeed-skipping scene, I assumed it was this movie’s way of addressing the controversy over the Holdo Maneuver, by showing that 1) it can only be used when the target is relatively small (“how thick do you think that ice wall is?”) and 2) is indeed a thing that happens in this universe when the situation calls for it.
It wasn’t until I really thought about it that I realized they weren’t really related.

I would gladly learn VFX stuff and modify the lip-syncing of the characters to redub the planet’s name as Korriban. The shot of the Sith statues with the orange ambience just speaks KOTOR.

Korriban is widely known to those it concerns, though, so it wouldn’t function as a secret base. All the more reason to stay close to the official blue grade to differentiate it from Korriban. It also really suits Palpatine. I do like the “grey” recolor though. Something along those lines might be good.

I’ve only seen the orange recolor, has gray been done yet? I can see grey mixed with green from the machine like someone else suggested to imply the Nightsister magic

I’ve redone the gray LUT (it’s a bit less red), here is how it looks on Exegol: https://vimeo.com/435562056

That looks awesome. Makes a lot of the scenes look so much more… real. And the contrast between the lightsabers and the background is much more striking now. Some of the interior shots are still a bit too red, but that’s my only issue.

My continued attempt at Frankensplicing the hangar scene:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7lp6IVdh-E

My idea here is to strongly imply that Palpatine is dying as a direct result of what Vader did, he just didn’t die immediately like we all assumed. To make room for that, I had to remove the dyad explanation, which would probably be moved to Rey & Kylo’s long-distance duel since I can’t think of anything else to put there.

Honestly, though, I spent like four hours editing this and it still doesn’t sound good. I need to do something simpler but I can’t think of what.
