The music. I also am not a fan of using Burning Homestead for the third time, but we just couldn’t find any other music to fit the moment.

Duel of the fates? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

It wouldn’t fit. It’s supposed to be a triumphant moment when the Force Ghosts rise up against Palpatine, and a cue originally intended for a battle scene wouldn’t really fit that.

Hal already added a minor repeat of DOTF during Rey and Kylo’s duel, so it isn’t really necessary to play it again.

What about Leia’s Theme? I know Leia isn’t there, but The Empire Strikes Back used Yoda’s theme during action scenes involving Luke to symbolize how he had learned from Yoda, so since Leia taught Rey it might be a cool parallel. Not to mention, Leia’s Theme is one of the best pieces of music ever written.

The disc / suite version of Battle of the Heroes features a subtler beginning and ending section that don’t appear in Episode III. Maybe those parts could feature somewhere.

Hal isn’t really interested in adding any of the prequel music, which I respect since It’s his edit. Lets just be lucky we got DOTF and R2/3PO theme in, Lol. (I did find a really nice hyperspace theme from Attack of the clones that worked really well over one scene, but probably no point sharing it)

Just use the Redux Ideas Thread.

Help Wanted: Looking for past episodes of Jeopardy (any quality)
Time

Streaming services like Hulu and Netflix only offer a very small selection of Jeopardy episodes, and even those are mostly specials, like Teen Tournament and Greatest of All Time. It seems almost impossible to find recordings of regular episodes, even from the most recent seasons. I don’t want to go into too much detail for privacy reasons, but my friend competed in an episode from season 33 and we’d love to be able to watch it again.

Always found it weird Lucas did NOT do anything like that with Anakin when introducing him. Having the most mythological important character’s first visual appearance walking around a shop seems so mundane.

Luke’s first appearance was pretty mundane too. I think it was intentional in both cases, to show that greatness comes from humble origins.

Agreed, but at least with Luke we were told about him before he went off on his journey. His feelings of being trapped, not being able to escape, wanting to join his friends, wanting to join the rebellion, etc. With Anakin, we don’t really get anything. Not any idea that he longs to be a jedi, or leave where hes at, or that he lives a horrible slave life that differs from Lukes safe life with his uncle.

Anakin needs a broom boy moment staring at a duel sunset as ships are leaving the planet i think, before he meets Quigon and gang. Would help when he calls out Quigon as being a Jedi.

I hadn’t thought about it like that, but that makes sense.

Unfortunately 2020 deepfake tech isn’t remotely good enough to replace the lego cartoon…in fact it would probably be easier to remake the entire TFA movie in Lego, haha.

YOU LAUGH NOW

but I have considered it.

And once Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga comes out, and people start making cinematics of the game footage, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone tries to recreate the entire saga as a Lego movie.

What is the main Star Wars Saga about?

It’s pretty simple I’d think: Star Wars as a series is about storytelling, and the act of passing stories down. It’s rooted in a fun genre pastiche, with the original film(s) as a classic monomyth set in a storied world. The prequels then set out to deconstruct the ideals inherent in those stories from a more sociopolitical angle (The Empire rooted in capitalism, the classical masculine ideals are problematic, etc.) then the sequels tr(ied) to make sense of it all from a postmodernist perpsective: why are these stories important to us? How do you apply their lessons to real and imperfect people?

On every level, from Luke’s quest to fulfill his father’s legacy, to George’s borrowing of references, to even its cultural impact thereafter - Star Wars is about legends and how we interpret them. How the Jedi interpet their code, how Luke chooses to see his father, how Rey or Kylo see history, and their futures.

imo

I second the above - perfect post! Can’t believe I missed it.

I know we’ve pretty much retired the Ajan Kloss = Naboo idea, but the more I think about it, Ajan Kloss we wouldn’t have to change the canon to make Ajan Kloss into a planet we’ve seen before: On Wookieepedia, there’s no official information as to where Luke’s Jedi Temple (from the flashbacks in TLJ) was located, and given that it was where Luke trained Leia it would make sense for Ajan Kloss to be that same planet.
Can anyone think of a way to make that clearer in the movie?

Has anyone thought about trying ways to make Endor more visually interesting? I know George Lucas said he hated how every alien planet in the OT looked like a part of Earth, so I feel like if he had had the resources at the time, he might have made it look more like Felucia with the alien plant life. It would be really hard to make something that consistently CG-heavy, but some color correction and changes to establishing shots would probably be enough to give the impression that it’s not just a regular forest.

IlFanEditore’s ROTJ edit color-corrected the Endor scenes to make it look more lush and bright. That’s a good starting point.

Maybe someone could add some bioluminiscent flora to the night scenes in the Endor village? That would make it more alien, more deserving of the “sanctuary moon” adjetive, and less Anywhere, California.

Ajan Kloss from Episode 9 is a worse offender for me in that regard, though.

That’s a good idea. And as for Ajan Kloss, I hadn’t thought about it but maybe that’s what the greenish-yellow tint was for…

Name Something You Unreservedly Love About The Rise Of Skywalker
Time

The movie has an overarching theme of the importance of heroes, and the power that one selfless act has to inspire others.

After Rey force-heals the serpent, she says to BB-8 “I just transferred a bit of life from me to him. You would have done the same.” Then, when BB-8 finds D-0, he transfers him a bit of energy, allowing D-0 to power up and, later, to provide key information about Exegol. So Rey’s good deed inspires another good deed, which leads to an even greater good being done for the galaxy.

Also, just as Anakin sacrificed himself to save someone, all of his descendants ended up doing the same:

  • Luke sacrificed himself to save the Resistance
  • Leia sacrificed herself to save Ben
  • Ben sacrificed himself to save Rey
  • Threepio sacrificed his memories to save the galaxy.

That’s why I love Hal’s “For Skywalker” scene: It takes that idea even further.

Star Wars Headcanons
Time

Mace Windu’s purple lightsaber is symbolic of how he is simultaneously a hero to the galaxy and an antagonist to Anakin.
I mean, I know Samuel L. Jackson asked for it, but remember George Lucas said no initially and only agreed when the time came for reshoots. I think the reason he changed his mind is because he was working on the story for Revenge of the Sith and realized that giving Mace a blue or green lightsaber wouldn’t make sense for the role he played in the story.

Any discrepancies between events in the canon material are just a result of the story being told from two different viewpoints. For example, the last arc of The Clone Wars and the Ahsoka novel do not agree on the conversation Ahsoka had with Maul and the circumstances around their encounter. I believe that the events we see on screen are the correct ones, yet the only reason the novel and the show disagree is that Ahsoka doesn’t remember the events correctly in her telling of the story.
This is also why the Novelizations can sometimes disagree since the story is being told by a different in-universe entity than the movie. A history book can’t be 100% correct all the time. It is not protective to freak out over retcons and contradictions. Instead, gather all the information and decide for yourself whos account of the events was most correct.

To expand on that: R2 is the narrator of the movies, and Leia never kissed Luke - that droid just has a sick sense of humor.

How would you have done the Prequel Trilogy?
Time

Since Anakin’s fall is supposed to be a dark reflection of Luke’s rise, I would give Qui-Gon a role closer to that of Obi-Wan, and Palpatine the role of Yoda.

Episode 1: Anakin is a Padawan in the Jedi Temple. He never knew his mother; and yet, he’s getting nightmares about her. He asks about this to Master Obi-Wan, who just says Jedi aren’t supposed to have attachments. Anakin goes along with this because he believes in the Jedi teachings. After being called to action by the plot, he somehow meets Qui-Gon, an ex-Jedi who tells him that receiving visions of the parents they never knew is a sign that somebody is especially strong with the force. He goes on to explain how he was expelled by the Jedi council for believing that the Dark Side is not inherently sinister, but could in fact be used for good. Then more plot, the Seperatist Alliance declares war, Qui-Gon dies, and Anakin does some climactic act of heroism… using the Dark Side. He completes the first cycle of his hero’s journey by returning to the Jedi with the knowledge that they might not be trustworthy.

Episode 2: The Tusken Raiders, on behalf of Tatooine, join the separatist alliance. Anakin is working with Obi-Wan and Padme (with whom he’s falling in love) on the political side of the war. They try to keep the fighting to a minimum but Anakin still gets some moments to show he’s proficient in combat. Before long, Anakin is assigned to protect Chancellor Palpatine - who, in their time together, talks to Anakin about power and control, which Anakin believes himself to be lacking because he obeys the Jedi Council. Eventually, Palpatine has some strings pulled to get Anakin assigned to Tatooine, where he discovers the Tusken Raiders have taken several civilians hostage, including Shmi. Palpatine warns Anakin that the Tuskens can’t be reasoned with, but Anakin tries to negotiate rather than freeing the prisoners by force; however, the negotiations fail, and Anakin’s mother is killed. He responds by force-choking the leader.

Episode 3: Anakin is now a General. He claims he is only doing his duty as a Jedi, but he secretly hopes the war goes on forever. He’s still in a covert relationship with Padme, but they’re apart so much that he’s more in love with the idea of Padme than with Padme herself. We also discover he has kept the mask that belonged to the Tusken Raider he killed. Palpatine tells Anakin more of what he wants to hear: the ends justify the means, all that matters is destroying the Separatists, and the Jedi are complicit and must be destroyed. Anakin provides the chancellor with the information necessary to “hunt down and destroy the Jedi knights” but DOES NOT PHYSICALLY KILL ANY OF THEM. Instead, he goes to Mustafar (which is more of an industrial wasteland than volcanic nightmare, but still very hell-ish), wearing the mask which, when combined with his hood, bears resemblance to a certain other mask he is known for wearing. He gives the Seperatist leaders an ultimatum: join the new Empire or die. Most of them agree, but the Tusken raiders are among those that don’t, so Anakin - now Vader - kills them. Anakin then turns on Padme and fights Obi-Wan like in the movie, while Palpatine - instead of dueling Yoda - sets a trap, and blows up the Senate building with Yoda inside. Yoda survives but is crippled, and Palpatine blames the destruction on the Jedi. Anakin gets defeated by Obi-Wan, who presumes his friend dead, and cannot retrieve the body because of the fire that is spreading around them - a fire that started because Anakin tried to shoot force lightning but didn’t have the hang of it. Darth Vader would go on to believe that, if he had only been more focused in his hatred for Obi-Wan, his horrible injuries would never have happened.
