I just had an idea. To truly make this the definitive edit, one thing is still missing: we need to edit the book.

I hadn’t thought about it, but I just realized the unintentional symbolism of Anakin’s Lightsaber and a Purple Lightsaber being used together to defeat Palpatine… because that’s what should have happened on Coruscant all those years ago.

To me, it seems ethical as long as the credit for the performance is given to the person acting, not the person whose face is being used. There are plenty of people in real life who have extremely similar faces to one another, and movie studios already look for that sort of thing when re-casting an existing role. It’s about visual continuity; they’re not actually trying to make the audience think they’re the same person. Deepfakes are similar - Rogue One replaced the faces of Guy Henry and Ingvild Deila, in order to make them look like Tarkin and Leia in a New Hope, but they were still the ones listed in the credits. They didn’t claim to have magically de-aged Carrie Fisher or brought Peter Cushing back to life. It should be about the consistency of the character, not the appeal of the actor; which also means an actor’s face should only be used for a role they’ve already played. Otherwise, it’ll end up feeling like those 1970’s movies that cast Bruce Lee lookalikes to make them more appealing to audiences who didn’t know Bruce Lee was dead (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruceploitation).

That’s actually really interesting. Supports both the idea that George Lucas had it planned out (in that he had a good idea as to Palpatine rose to power) and the idea that George Lucas was making it up as he went along (because he hadn’t yet decided that Palpatine was an evil mastermind).

Well, since a lot of people didn’t ask that same question about the giant, fleet-destroying lightning storm, I think it’s fair to assume it came from him stealing Rey’s and Ben’s life force.

Vader never planned to overthrow the Emperor and rule with Luke - he wanted Luke to take his place so he could retire. The Emperor told him that, if he found a younger and more powerful apprentice to replace him, Vader would be given a lower-maintenance suit and a large sum of credits, and allowed to leave the Empire and live independently.

This is more of a starting point than a full-fledged idea, but I was thinking that it might have made more sense if the Sith Eternal established themselves as an enemy of the First Order as well as of the Resistance.

One thing that’s always bothered me about TLJ is how its ending doesn’t really lend itself well to being “Part 2 of 3” because of the fact that all of the remaining conflict can be resolved by one event - Kylo being redeemed. Luke says “the war is just beginning” and Rey says they’re going to “build a rebellion” but I feel like if I were seeking to overthrow a regime run by someone whom I knew personally, whom I had a means of communicating with, and who didn’t 100% believe in what he was doing, then I’d probably put all my resources in persuading him to my side and having a peaceful transition of power. The movie may have shown him doing some terrible things, but it never really convinced me that turning him to the Light Side would be hard enough to justify waging a bloody war instead. So it occurred to me - in order for the movie to redeem Ben while keeping him in power (which is presumably, something we’d want to see because of how much “Supreme Leader Kylo” was built up in the Last Jedi), the Resistance and First Order would have to team up against a common enemy. Kylo could spend most of the movie doing the right things for the wrong reasons, and his return to the light could be more smooth and gradual.

What do you think?

It just makes zero sense, man. Of course the only explanation, that doesn’t require you to bend over backwards to explain it, is that her parents were selfish people who did not care about her safety.

Honestly, I think it thematically makes WAY more sense if Rey’s parents were still just selfish people. That way she has to break the cycle of abuse the same way she has to break the cycle of Sith succession.

In Lego The Force Awakens, the bloody handprint on Finn’s helmet is replaced with a green “splat” from where a villager threw a fruit at him.
Put that in the movie.

If we’re talking about getting really radical, I think the best option would be to cut it all into one movie:

• First half is a shortened version of TFA. The Resistance is never referred to as such until the Republic gets destroyed, which doesn’t happen until the attack on Starkiller Base has already begun. That way it’s seen as more of a failure and the remaining Republic soldiers become a rebellion again. Luke being found is the midpoint.
• Second half is TLJ but also cut down. Canto Bight is removed (Maybe add some TROS dialogue to imply that DJ is someone Poe used to work with, and that’s how they know him).
• If possible, add the Rise of Skywalker’s final scene as an epilogue, with the two lightsabers getting buried replaced with the two halves of Anakin’s lightsaber.

Sorry. That was really vague. I’ll update the description.

In my experience, the Star Wars fandom seems far more prone to drama and division than those of other pieces of pop culture. Originaltrilogy.com is a fine place, but those of us who spend a lot of time on YouTube or Reddit have probably seen what I’m talking about.
I can scarcely find a commenter there capable of saying something positive about one aspect of the franchise without condemning another. And that’s not even mentioning the actual bullying and harassment that several cast and crew members have faced.
For years now, I’ve been wondering: what makes people act like that? What, if any, other fandoms have these kinds of issues? And how do we respond to it?

Has anyone thought about a possible way to give the “Master Codebreaker” from TLJ a different introduction? If you think about it, his presence is really the only thing that changes because of the trip to Canto Bight. If he were somehow introduced earlier, like maybe if he were one of the people who tried to desert from the Resistance, then he and Finn and Rose could go straight from the Raddus to the Supremacy and save a lot of time.
