Star Trek V had dunes, so it all balances out in the end.
The supernatural aspect of Star Wars is what draws me to the franchise personally - the regular Joes of the universe are of secondary importance, IMO.
It's the singular fixation on the Jedi & Sith to the exclusion to all other possible religions/philosophies/phenomena that is the problem.
If you build it, he will come.

That movie sure has a lot of whispering in it.

Not that there's anything wrong with those dunes.
I don't like TNG Klingons. They're have no dignity, no intelligence, and no sense of proper hygiene. It's difficult to believe they're supposed to be the same creatures that show up in TOS or even the films.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he wasn't a great big pansy.
Sooner or later? Isn't there a third option?

There are certainly parts of TOS that should not be held as canon by anyone. "United Earth Space Probe Agency", anyone?
There is one now ...

One thing I can tell you with certainty though is that this book:
Is DEFINITELY a part of my personal Trek Canon. =P
So far, I like TOS the most; it's the most fun, the chemistry between the characters is excellent, and it tries to think big even if it doesn't entirely succeed.
After watching almost four seasons of TNG, I've come to appreciate it a fair bit more than I did when I first started watching it (Data is awesome!); it does take itself too seriously, though, most of the aliens are lame, and I don't like Roddenberry's "perfect" vision of the Federation, so I can't rate it as highly as TOS.
I've only seen a few episodes of DS9 and that was some years back, so I can't really comment on it, except to say that I remember it was more in the spirit of TOS and that the weapons looked like cheap plastic toys.
I have no interest in VOY, ENT, or Abrams' Trek, so I'm not going to watch them, therefore I can't comment on them (take from that what you will).
As for my favourite commander - that's Spock (he's my favourite character in the franchise, though, so that can't come as any surprise).
My personal canon consists of a Star Trek universe that exists solely within my head - Spock is the result of genetic engineering, full blooded Vulcans & Romulans have green skin, the Eugenics Wars occurred after the formation of the Federation, most human aliens are human offshoot species, two transporters are needed in order for transportation to work, the Mirror Universe was created by time travel, universal translators are more realistic and less universal, Pike has a cooler looking wheelchair, etc. - its loosely inspired by TOS, some of TNG, and a few comics, but that's all - nothing that occurs in any of the series, movies, comics, etc. happens concretely as shown.
Ah, 1983 ... I was a Saudi Arabian falafel vendor back then, before I died from choking on a slice of manakish and was reincarnated in my present body. I never got to see ROTJ, though I did get to see Turkish Star Wars at a screening at a travelling sideshow.

I wonder how things would have turned out had everyone - after reading the novel Dracula when it was first published - come away with the idea that "Dracula" was actually not a name but a title all vampires used. Probably the idea would have only gained more-and-more prominence until it became holy writ, leading almost all vampire characters in later works of fiction to bear the "Dracula" name along with their own. There would have been a Dracula Orlok, Dracula Blackula, Dracula Count, Dracula Edward, etc.
It would have been so unbelievably fucking stupid.
Only the Muslim extremists want to take over - the moderates don't. Not that they'll ever succeed, of course - their animalistic brains lack the capacity to exhibit the subtlely needed to covertly take over any modern society.
My daddy is an arrogant, ignorant dumbass who thinks he can tell everybody else what the Bible says when he can't even read the book, and he pisses me off on a daily basis with his denigrating "humour".
"Eat poo, ya!"
"Femeret" sounds like the name of a furry mink-like creature, not the name of a Force religion (IMO).
