The Controversial Discussions Thread (Was "The Prejudice Discussion Thread" (Was "The Human Sexuality Discussion Thread" (Was "The Homosexuality Discussion Thread")))
Time

I've changed the thread title to indicate that this is now a thread for the discussion of human sexuality in general, and not just homosexuality (though, implicitly, discussion on non-homosexual sexuality was always allowed here).

Is this thread less pointless, now?

Reading my old journal got me thinking just how much movies affected my expectations about sex, well into adulthood.

Comic books did the same for me. My ideal woman at the time was one with a sleek, smooth body like this

I had trouble finding any women with any amount of body hair and less than perfect tits/ass attractive.

Suffice it to say, I've got a better/healthier taste in women now.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Every man, woman, and child on this Earth has natural red hair.

FINAL NOTES

I’d love to live on this Earth (just thinking of a Heather Langenkamp with rich auburn hair makes me drool), but I have the sneaking suspicion that I’d stand out like a sore thumb.

TIMELINE-P

PODD

August 1962

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

In this timeline, Peter Parker didn't merely gain the porportionate powers of a spider after being bitten by the radioactive arachnid -- he also contracted a rather virulent form of spider-rabies. In the end, he started biting people left and right, bestowing them with spider-powers -- and spider-rabies -- in the process, thus creating a pandemic which engulfed the entire eastern seaboard of the United States before a series of giant Raid bombs where dropped on the afflicted areas, wiping all the Spider-Men and Women out of existence.

FINAL NOTES

J Jonah Jameson was right after all. Nuff said.

Highlander: The Search for Vengeance (2007)

While I liked the flashback parts of the movie, the rest of the film was ... iffy; mutants, cyborgs, and robots do not belong in a Highlander movie, animated or not.

Suffice it to say, I wasn't very taken with the movie; I even started nodding off before I got halfway through the movie -- that's how unengaging the main story was.

The animation was pretty good, though.

6.5/10

Battle Beyond the Stars (1980)

This movie sucked, plain and simple. The plot was paper-thin, the characters were complete cyphers, the "action" scenes were overlong and boring, and the movie was just too damn long for such a meagre storyline.

The worst thing about this movie by far, though, is that John Saxon sucked. John Saxon sucked! Lord above, I've seen him in some dire movies, and he still gave a great performance in them! The director must be some black magician to coax such an underwhelming performance out of the man!

5/10 (If it weren't for the (mostly) decent effects, it would be a 4/10)

What do you LIKE about the EU?
Time

This is probably going to come as a shock to imperialscum, but there's something about TOR that I actually do like and accept as canon.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Barel_Ovair

I love the idea of Sith sleeper agents -- entire families of Sith sleeper agents -- operating within the Jedi Order, working behind the scenes for centuries to undermine the Order and bring about a rebirth for the Sith.

Of course, I still don't accept the brouhaha about the Sith Emperor and his reborn Sith Empire. I'd have Ovair and his fellow spies be the descendants of followers of Exar Kun who infiltrated the Order during the Great Sith War, instead.

What do you HATE about the EU?

^Did I ever mention that I hate that goddamn character? He is Star Wars' answer to every stupid looking rubber forehead alien that has every shown up in Star Trek. Does he wear some kind of concealed antigravity harness to keep that ridiculously long neck upright in Earth-type+ gravity? Seriously -- that damn thing should be broken sixteen different ways and flopping around like a flacid Willy Wonka bar.

Do hamburgers eat people in this timeline?

No, people still eat hamburgers. The buns and patties are just flipped around.

TIMELINE-O

PODD

April 27, 1937

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This universe was created when the unethical clone of Professor Frink travelled backwards through time to April 27, 1937 and kidnapped the infant George Takei shortly after he was born. Travelling forward in time to the 1950s/1960s, he then did the same thing to the infant Tommy Wiseau.

Returning to the present, he used the DNA from both babies to create a new human subspecies – Homo sapiens wiseautakeisia. Homo sapiens wiseautakeisia is set apart from Homo sapiens sapiens by the former’s distinctive external appearance: all the males resemble George Takei while all the females resemble Tommy Wiseau.<span style=“font-size: small;”></span>

FINAL NOTES

I don’t think I could stand to visit this Earth. All the constant "Oh hai!"s and "Oh my!"s would drive me into a genocidal lunacy.

I just have to say that I dislike Worf for the same reasons (well, one of the same reasons) I dislike the pre-Crisis Superman -- he was raised by humans on a human world in a predominantly human environment, but instead of embracing his adopted human heritage, he completely disregards it in favour of a culture that he hasn't been a part of since he was a small child.

Worf should have been the Spock of TNG -- ie. someone whose nature was constantly at war with their nuturing. Instead, he was just a big, dumb joke who constantly spouted that Klingon honour bullshit while serving as some villain-of-the-week's punching bag.

VII-IX = The Sith Wars? *flees while Duracell and darklord rend their clothes*

Suffice it to say, I'd prefer "The Jedi Wars" over "The Sith Wars". A trilogy about a civil war between different factions of Jedi (not necessarily dark vs. light) would be far more interesting than more Sith vs. Jedi nonsense.

I mean, the real episode I was ANH, not TPM!

As far as I'm concerned, the movies shouldn't even have episode numbers. Saying "This trilogy begins with Episode IV, that trilogy begins with Episode I" places too many limitations of story possibilities; the saga should have been open-ended (open-begun?), with space available for any number of prequels/sequels/interquels/sidequels/etc.
