       OOhhh! I can help!

Intuitive and Common Sense evaluation is a crucially important form of intelligence. Many if not most of the greatest scientific discoveries and inventions have been dependent upon it.

To be intelligent is to quickly process information and perceive valid points therein.

If your parents are able to intuit that the random evolution explanation is in fact full of holes and reasons to believe fabuluosly unlikely, if they can sense that the overpopulation concerns are being hyped in EXTREMELY dubious ways, by some EXTREMELY dubious characters, for EXTREMELY dubious purposes, if they can perceive that a Creator might wish to test his creations and so they remain unshaken and unsurprised by the ravings of "scientific" atheism...

...If they are able to do all of this in defiance of their lack of advanced university degrees and some patchiness in their educations due to basic life concerns... then you can take great comfort in the knowledge that your parents are, in fact, VASTLY more intelligent than YOU! :)

I may disagree with DrCrow's assessment of my relationship with my father, but at least he has some points to get across. You, on the other hand, have jackshit to give beyond your ultraconservative bullshit.

Welcome to ignore. Your schtick is no longer amusing.

Also considering that they have done well enough to put a roof over your head I would say they must have learned something that worked well for them in life.

Part-time orchard labour doesn't require much intelligence. All it requires is for you to slowly cripple yourself for peanuts.

Light speed isn't something that effects our every day lives and even today it is not a main focus of the schools.

It's still grossly ignorant. But hey, if that isn't ignorant enough for you, perhaps I should also mention that my father also believes in spontaneous generation, something that's been discredited for hundreds of years.

Your parents must be nice people if they are still giving you a home despite your age and the fact that you hate them and have no respect for them.

My mother's ignorant, but I don't hate her. I only hate my father, and that's because he's a crude, disgusting, misogynistic, self-righteous asshole who thinks he's better and holier than everyone else. He's gone above and beyond to earn my ire.

Last night, I was telling my parents that it takes about eight minutes for sunlight to reach Earth. When my father asked how they ("they" being the scientists, of course) knew this, I told them they had obviously measured the speed of light and knew how long it would take for it to travel from one place to another. His response?

"Light has speed?"

And this here -- this more than any of their ignorant stances on evolution, overpopulation, or religion -- is a perfect example of why I can't stand living with my parents, especially my dumb shit-for-brains father.

Musical Obsessions

Listening to this piece of crap has brought to mind the bands/singers I used to like but don't care for anymore. Since the OP says I can bitch about stuff like that, I feel I may as well do so.

AC/DC

I really loved "Thunderstruck" when I was a kid, so the idea that I liked AC/DC seeped into my brain and settled there for a long, only dislodging late in my teenage years when I came to the conclusion that their lyrics are almost never about anything other than partying and women and other pointless shit and that Brian Johnson sounds like a hoarse cat coughing up a hairball.

Van Halen

I don't care for Van Halen for one of the same reasons I don't care for AC/DC anymore -- shitty subject matter. I do still think David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar are pretty good singers, though.

Bryan Adams

I love his stuff from the '80s and most probably always will, but I can't stand most of his '90s+ material anymore. '80s Bryan was obviously fueled by youthful energy in his early years and couldn't continue going that route forever, but instead of evolving when he got older -- becoming more introspective and exploratory -- he stagnanted, choosing to settle into a rut and churn out nothing but insipid, uninspired re-writes of "Kids Wanna Rock" and "Heaven" for the rest of his days.

Lenny Kravitz

Kravitz is the black Bryan Adams; awesome in the beginning, he proved to be a one trick pony incapable of any real progression. That he chooses to collaborate with talentless fucks like Dreck ... opps, I meant Drake ... certainly doesn't help any.

The new Star Wars comics - a general discussion thread

Getting back to the premise, the idea that the Empire is now rounding up all surviving Alderaanians is a bit of a stretch. I can understand that there'd be concerns over fomenting thoughts of revenge but to act so swiftly to start rounding them up a day after the destruction of the planet is...questionable.

First Luke has a duel with Vader right after ANH, and now this. *sigh*

If Disney had done the smart thing and made the nuEU non-canon like the Star Trek EU, I wouldn't be having any problem with these writing decisions as they'd all be self-contained and have little to no impact on other stories written in the future. As it, though, I'm seeing the nuEU shaping up to be another clusterfuck of poor ideas just like the old EU was.

^It's not badly made. The artist obviously wished to convey the idea that the fabric of reality is breaking down, causing people, places, and things from beyond the space-time continuum to bleed through into our world, releasing extradimensional shapes and energies our brains cannot wholly percieve in the process.

Speaking of which, they're still doing quite a number of variants for these Star Wars comics. While deciding on what cover to use in my review of the issue, I went with one that I felt really embodied the spirit of the story.

But I have to say, I really dug this one:

I really love Alex Ross' take on Star Wars. I hope someone gives him the opportunity to paint an entire comic someday.

I swear I can predict a good 78% of your posts before you make them.

My unpredictability has become predictable. This shames me.

Unfortunately, my tanto's with the cleaners, so I can't commit seppuku until tomorrow morning.

On the very tiny chance you actually didn't understand what I was saying, I'll clarify - I fail to see how your blue comment had any relevance to what I was saying.

I posted an image of Leia on a red background and insinuated red was her favourite colour. Your response was mildly antipathic. Therefore, I ran with the idea that you do not like red as Leia's favourite colour, that you prefer another colour as her favourite. I then chose to mention blue as an alternative due to the fact that blue is a more popular colour than red and is indeed often considered red's opposite (though, scientifically speaking, it isn't).

Or, to put it in visual terms:

Religion, on the other hand: I honestly never cared for my religion, but still hang on due to family obligations. Their viewpoints as I grew older seemed to be out of touch with how people really behave, but I have no valid argument. Growing up in a Catholic environment has made me afraid of sex, and I guess I could understand some points they make, but to me Christianity seems to be anti-modern at its core.

It has been so from its conception. In the Roman times, it was just as much counter-cultural as it is today. In some cases, it was the same, or similar things that set it apart from the rest of society. Don't think that the sexual revolution is some recent revolution that Christianity hasn't caught up with. Rather, it was Christianity that was the revolution against the culture of pleasure in ancient times, and again at the time of the Reformation (in the latter, of course, it was an internal revolution, returning, at least in part, to the ideals of earlier Christianity).

I like to consider the better half of Christianity as postmodern, myself.

I don't know what that's supposed to mean.

Blue is the colour between violet and green on the optical spectrum of visible light. Human eyes perceive blue when observing light with a wavelength between 450 and 495 nanometres. Blues with a higher frequency and thus a shorter wavelength gradually look more violet, while those with a lower frequency and a longer wavelength gradually appear more green. Pure blue, in the middle, has a wavelength of 470 nanometres. In painting and traditional colour theory, blue is one of the three primary colours of pigments, along with red and yellow, which can be mixed to form a wide gamut of colours. Red and blue mixed together form violet, blue and yellow together form green. Blue is also a primary colour in the RGB color model, used to create all the colors on the screen of a television or computer monitor.
