Having finished watching the entire first season of Ash vs. Evil Dead, here’s my blunt assessment of it:

It’s an entertaining enough time-killer, but when it comes to the writing/direction/tone/characterization, I find it severely wanting. The potential’s there, but they really need to cut down on the comedy, amp up the scare factor, and start getting a handle on the story they’re trying to tell and the characters they’re trying to explore. Until that happens, AvED is going to remain firmly outside of my personal Evil Dead canon.

My rating: B-

I think it’s probably best that you keep your kids as far away from your parents as possible – at least while they’re younger. Once they’re older – around their mid-to-late teens – relax the restiction, but still keep a watchful eye out.

That’s a great article. Pins down many of the near-strengths of the PT I’ve known were there for years now.
