Fantastic stuff, and it reminds me of why I liked DE so much. ! Young Han and Leia fighting together! Leia using the Force in a non-stupid way. A great design aesthetic too - really Star Warsy.
But it undermines ROTJ. And ROTS. Which is entirely bad, except when Disney does it.
Somewhat, but for me ROTJ was about the redemption of Vader and Luke becoming a Jedi, so DE does not completely undermine it. Now if you add in the PT nonsense about prophecies, the Chosen One, bringing balance to the force and all that garbage then, yes if does undermine ROTJ.
Truth be told, I don’t really care if it really does undermine either film as I don’t care for either. DE is what ROTJ should’ve been.

The cringe is strong with this one, I’m sorry to say. It looks like they put a lot of money and effort into it, granted, but the concept … ugh.
I was surprised by how little I hated this film. Not a great film by any means, but it was refreshing to have a star wars film in which the main protagonist was male
Not enough of those, huh
None that are admirable characters since '83.
So you don’t think the prequels rule?
Correct.
Irony — it’s great in everything save liver.
Actually writing about those things is making me dislike the movie more so I’m going to stop now.
Nah brah. Let the hāt flow through you.
I’m curious what would get all of you back in the theaters again.
Five words: It was all a dream.
My mother can’t have too much potassium in her diet. Perhaps that’s one reason why she’s not a SW fan.
The NJO/Legacy-era EU is anathema to me, and I really wouldn’t want to deal with that baggage. I’d prefer to write a trilogy blending elements from the Thrawn, Dark Empire, & Jedi Academy trilogies, but that would be modifying the EU, not fitting with it.
I’d say the ideas behind the prequels are substance. Too bad Lucas’ ego didn’t allow him to pass them along to someone with actual talent to develop and execute competently.
From what I’ve heard, Lucas didn’t want to direct. He wanted to hand the project over to someone else with him producing, like in Empire and Jedi, but the studio insisted on making it “his project”. What they didn’t realize was the OT everyone fell in love with wasn’t what George had wanted in the first place, and it was only with his limitations and other input that such a balance between creative substance and inspiring narrative could be accomplished.
Studio? It’s my understanding the prequels were all multi-million-dollar independent films.
Better off just making your own fan PT trilogy if you put that much effort into it.
I’m disappointed this hasn’t happened yet. Fan films have been getting progressively cinematic in recent years, and no one’s thought to take a crack at an alternate PT?

I wasn’t entertained by either TFA or the 40-odd minutes I watched of TLJ. On the contrary, ennui was my primary reaction.
Now I always figured Roy Thomas had the 4th draft script when writing the comic, but its interesting that they omitted Vader crushing it. Could that be due to the “Marvel Way” of writing/drawing that the crushing cup part got cut? I always forget exactly how the Marvel Way worked, but I know it often lead to inconsistencies and even contradictions between what was written and what was drawn.
Basically the writer types up with a basic plot rather than a full script, hands it over to the illustrator who fleshes the plot out in their illustrations, hands the finished artwork over to the writer, who finally adds in the dialogue/descriptions.
Dark Empire 2 and Empires End sucked in my opinion though, so just the original Dark Empire for me thank you.
I think they could be salvaged, but it would require a fair bit of rewriting. Ditching Palpatine and making the Dark Side Elite the main villains would be great for starters.
Instead of wasting time on Titanic, in 1997 Cameron should’ve made a Terminator 0 set during the Future War, preferably featuring new characters we’d never met before. Then the franchise should’ve been retired for good and all. These needless sequels/requels have all been deleterious.

It’s the end of the series, they’re going to ride off into the binary sunset.
Literally. Then Nuclear Man will be reborn.
Admittedly, I loved that scene at first. Then I eventually realized if Vader has the kind of Sith to go headlong in hacking people to bits, he would’ve done so in SW '77.
Stylish but stupid fanservice, is Stylish but stupid.
The trailer looks really good! I love the original direction it seems to be taking. Unfortunately, I will not be using Disney Plus. But I will try to stay unspoiled, on the off chance it releases elsewhere.
I don’t really understand the reluctance. If you just don’t want to have to subscribe to another service you can always wait until the whole season’s out and just do a month. I really hope this gets released on home video but there’s really no guarantee of that these days.
Given their increasingly monopolized position, the way they’re putting classic Fox films into “the vault” and out of the repertory theaters, not to mention the state of copyright thanks to their lobbying, I’m reticent to give them money for anything.

So I rewatched that “SC 38 Reimagined” lightsaber duel for the first time since it was released, just to see if it was as bad as I remembered. Boy howdy, was it ever. And fans actually like this overwrought crap? And want it edited into the movie proper?
I’d legitimately rather have the flashlight duel from Hardware Wars in there before this prequelized clusterpork.
Watched it a couple days ago. I like the quality of the background animation, but I’m not a fan of the Nelvana-inspired character designs. They don’t fit the style or tone of Dark Empire.
