It sucks the least of all the prequels. I’ll absolutely never watch AOTC or ROTS again, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility that I could almost watch TPM again in the future.

Am I the only one who feels Rey Palpatine is far more compelling than “Rey nobody”?
I find them equally compelling.
If I could redo any show, it would be Babylon 5. I only watched it in the past year, so I wasn’t as enamored of it as some of my friends who watched it more or less when it originally aired. However, I do see what attracted to them it.
While I haven’t thought too much about how to approach it (the watch is still fresh in my mind), it’s obvious that a lot of things that were not working were simply from the fact that the show was breaking so much ground. We know so much better how to approach the long arcs that show put in place, and the prestige TV era is primed for the greater flexibility in episode length and season length that the show would have benefitted from. I think there’s a strategic point to so many of the side stories the show explored, but at the same time, there were a lot of production issues that obviously forced the show to be done in specific ways.
If I were to tackle a B5 reboot, I’d cut down on the amount of extraterrestrial species. Keep the core races like the Centauri and Narn, of course, and some of the more exotic beings like the pak’ma’ra, but dispense with the background/one-off aliens whose presence adds nothing to the universe.
I’m hard.

It’s body horror of this calibre Star Wars is in dire need of.
The more I sit on it, the more I really hate Rey Palpatine. I really hate it- I wouldn’t even use hate to describe how I feel about what Johnson did to Luke in TLJ but I hate Rey Palpatine. The force dyad properly elaborated on would have been fully sufficient to explain Rey’s OP-ness, in my opinion. Rey being from nowhere was in retrospect completely in line with the Star Wars ethos and if episode XI had kept with it, and I think it would have allowed that fact to sit well with audiences.
Rey Palpatine never really sat right with me, even the first time I watched it. Once fan edits start coming out of TROS, whatever edit I chose will need to have Rey Palpatine scrapped, no exceptions, but that’s just my taste and my preference. Rey Palpatine will never be canon to me.
This is coming from someone who overall enjoyed the sequels, so don’t accuse me of being a Disney hater or whatever. I understand why JJ did it, and I strongly disagree

Wow, that’s a terrible idea. I do love the idea of the Imperial Remnant and New Republic teaming up against an external threat. There’s no doubt in my mind that that threat should be he Yuuzhan Vong, and I say that as someone who’s never read any of the books they’re in. The idea of these super metal looking baddies wielding biotechnology just sounds awesome, and suitably alien for a race from another galaxy.
Reimagine the Yuuzhan Vong into Gigeresque biomechanical monstronsities, and the Yuuzhan Vong gods into Lovecraftian entities, and I’d get behind that.
Megacorporations don’t want you to own movies or shows, only rent them in perpetuity. It’s what they’ve always wanted, and thanks to streaming and the complacency of the sheep, they can get away with it now.

I know that you’re not going to rewrite the sequel trilogy for this series of rewrites because you’re only doing Lucas’ films, but do you plan on rewriting the sequels in a way that doesn’t have anything to do with this “streamlined saga”? (you know what I mean)
I actually changed my mind on the ST. As with the PT portion of this reimagining, my reimagined ST will be radically different from Disney’s.
That’s a cool idea. Honestly you could’ve had something similar to what was already in the films. The First Order could’ve been your Imperial Remnant, fighting with the New Republic, then a Sith Cult out in the Unknown Regions introduces a new threat that brings the two factions together. Maybe they wanted to resurrect a Sith Lord and begin a new Sith Empire. Could’ve been Sidious, or Darth Bane, or a brand new guy.
I’d have made the First Order Luke’s Jedi Order after Kylo Ren fell to the dark side and booted Luke and his loyalists out — a dark side cult/terrorist faction hostile to both the New Republic and Imperial Remnant. They would’ve manipulated events to get the Republicans and Imperials embroiled in a new war, would would’ve destabilized both sides, leaving them vulnerable to the First Order’s true masters — alien invaders from the Unknown Regions.
@DuracellEnergizer Do you plan on having it so your prequel trilogy rewrites won’t recycle key elements, plot points, and tropes from the original trilogy (e.g. the main hero getting his hand cut off by a villain, the exact same character pleading another family member to join him and rule the galaxy together, etc.)?
I’m going to avoid redundancy and Lucas-style “rhyming” whenever possible.
