Kids tend to have a difficult time distinguishing goods movies/TV from bad and often end up liking both in equal measure, unironically. I know; I was a kid once.

This whole thread brings to my mind the part in Dune where the Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam forces Paul Atreides to endure the pain box test to gauge whether he is human or an animal.

I remember the books still being pretty popular in my schools throughout the mid-late 2000s. I finally picked one up in fourth or fifth grade, and I couldn’t stand it.

I started reading Goosebumps in the third grade. I loved them at the time and devoured them voraciously, but finally outgrew them and Stine’s other books by my early '20s.

Still, without them I may never had become a regular reader of anything but comics, so I can’t hate them.

The air here is so hazy with the smoke of neighbouring forest fires that one cannot even see the tops of nearby hills.

On the plus side, all that smoke in the air blocks out the sun and keeps the temperature down.
