If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place
Time

I am so sick of not being able to do a god damn mother fucking thing to help my family in these situations.  I really wish there was a way to sell my self into slavery or sell my organs so my family could get the money.

Right now I am no good to anyone and we are about to end up on the streets without a cent to our names and I can not do one fucking thing to stop it!

I hate everything about living in this mother fucking country in this fucking time!

I just want one stupid job,I will do anything for any amount of money,is that really too much to ask?

This country needs to get rid of all of the minimum wage laws so that companies will start hiring again and people like me and my family who need work or we are going to end up starving to death on the streets can get jobs and underbid the undocumented workers who pour into this country every day.

Right now there are no jobs but since no one will hire without an address and phone number I can't just walk across the country to find work like people used to,and since the minimum wage is so high companies either hire workers off of the books or don't hire at all.  There is no way to avoid losing if you were not born super rich, right now.

We need some radical changes in this country because it has failed the average citizen.

I still can't find any work because there are not any jobs in my state,my family can not make ends meet because my dad was in the hospital for so long and my mom had to take time off work earlier this year due to the fact that my dad was so out of it he couldn't stay awake so she had to deal with things at the hospital,we have no food in the house,a negative balance at the bank, bills to pay,no gas so my mom and dad and brother have to walk the couple of dozen miles to work,my brother and sister are most likely going to have to quit school because all the schools in the area require you to go online with highspeed to do school work and all sorts of costly supplies, and we can't afford them any more, we have not had a decent meal in two weeks, and Wal-Mart is about one day away from firing my mom because she took too much time off to deal with my dad who was dying earlier this year.

My internet service runs out in a three days so if you don't hear from me after that, then that is the reason. It's not because I got mad at anyone or anything bad happened to me.  I just want to make that clear.

Things have never been worse and yet still I can't find one stupid job because everyone is down sizing. I have never felt more useless or more like a burden. I really hate life right now.

Sorry for venting here where no one can do anything but I don't have anywhere else left to vent,so thanks for letting me let off some steam.

Still it does say something about how good The X files was i think that these problems that would kill most shows for me didn't kill The X Files.  I still love the show and just wish certain things had been done a little better but over all it is still one my favorite shows.

I think the strength of the series lies in the characters. As lame as some of the stories of the later seasons often became, Mulder, Scully, Skinner, Krycek, Gigarette Smoking Man, X, the Lone Gunmen, etc. were all perfectly developed and executed that it was a joy just to watch the episodes for them alone.

Yeah good characters are really important to a TV show.  Given the nature of TV productions you are going to have a certain number of below average episodes every season,it's just too hard in most cases to produce 24-28 episodes of well written ground breaking Tv in one year, some of the scripts will be rushed and be badly written, but good characters the viewers like seeing and want to know more about can get your show over these humps.

A lot of shows today don't seem to understand this but it is important to to have likable, interesting, complex, and well thought out characters played by good actors in a Tv show. After all without that what are people tuning in for each week?

Gah! You're making me feel old, Bingo! I haven't seen Project UFO since it originally aired. Even Sci-Fi never dug it up. It had a  Dragnet "just the facts" vibe as Sgt. Joe Friday himself, Jack Webb was the producer.

I think a DVD release was announced last year, but nothing yet.

I have never even heard of that show and I am a huge fan of both Sci-fi and Jack Webb,I hope it comes to DvD soon so I can check it out.

Thanks for letting me know this exists.

Windows TEN
Time

You know I have no interesting in this.  I have yet to run into a problem with windows 7,it does everything I want,I know how it works, and it is as steady as a rock. Why would I upgrade when 7 works perfectly for what i do with my computer?

There will have to be some pretty amazing features in this OS to get me to even think about upgrading.

In hindsight, they probably should have

A. Had Scully become significantly less skeptical of the paranormal somewhere around Season 3/5.

or

B. Written some (more?) episodes where apparent paranomal activities were hoaxes/misidentified natural phenomena/etc. to help justify her unwavering skepticism.

Of course, I don't mind Scully's hardline skepticism all that much, silly though it gets at times. My pet peeve with the series is with how poorly the mytharc was developed and executed.

Yeah either one of those would have fixed the problem.  I mean I like Scully but at the same time after a while I have to wonder if she has been part of the same story I have been watching.  I mean there is being a skeptic and then there is looking at the sky and calling it red, that it what I felt like Scully was doing after a few seasons of something weird happening to Mulder and Scully every single week.

I think the problem with the mytharc is that it was only ever meant to be hinted at when the show was developed, but as it became more popular with viewers it became the focus of the show.  From what I understand the show was supposed to be mostly a monster/strange event of the week type show but the mytharc episodes started getting better ratings then those so that is what the writers started focusing on.  the only problem is there was no blueprint and there wasn't anyone writer who knew what was going on so it kind of fell apart.

Still it does say something about how good The X files was i think that these problems that would kill most shows for me didn't kill The X Files.  I still love the show and just wish certain things had been done a little better but over all it is still one my favorite shows.

What i want to know is what are the odds that we would both get the same cables the same week and have the same problem?  This is getting X files level strange now people.

As I much as I enjoy the X files, that's a huge problem I have with it... Mulder treats every mundane coincidence as if there were a conspiracy involved.

upon hearing this, I am quite glad I never got into that show. Definitely not my cup of tea.

If it's any consolation, Scully's the skeptic of the team, so she's always there to balance out Mulder's crackpot theories with more rational explanations.

Yeah but the show wouldn't be any fun to watch if she were right.

That brings me to the only thing I don't like about The X Files. After a couple of years I have to ask "Why are you still such a skeptic Scully?!"  I mean how many times to you have to be kidnapped, exposed to an alien virus, see monsters in the sewers,or come face to face with killers who are over a hundred years old before you will start listening when Maulder tells you something strange is going on?

It's fine in the first season but after a while I have to wonder if Scully even remembers the events of past episodes when she tells Mulder that some idea he has is too crazy.  I mean after all the stuff that has happened to her I don't think anything should count as crazy, the xfiles universe is crazy.

Video Games - a general discussion thread

Okay so any Mass Effect fans here?  I guess there are a few.  One thing that I find interesting is that each Mass effect fan seems to have their own idea of what Tali looks like under her mask,in fact the only thing Mass Effect fans seem to be able to agree on is that the bad photoshop job that wasn't even a character model we saw in game in ME3 is not what she looks like.  So here is a question, what do you think Quarians look like, and do you have a favorite fan made version?

This is my favorite. It me it has just the right degree of alienness while still having something that feels like Tali.  I really like this version and it is the version I see in my head when I play the games or write fan fiction.

How about you,do you have a favorite version,or do you like what was done in the game, and if so why?

I think it means people simply gravitate towards the same items on sale, and the manufacturer needs to do a massive recall before someone gets hurt and sues the hell out of them.

 Yeah good point!

I am not even sure how you screw up a product this simple this bad,I mean it's a power cable and a USB,how hard is that to get right?!

Okay earlier this week I found a couple old hard drives that I wanted to get some data off of so I used a SATA to USB cable my dad had to check them and they were both working fine, but the cable belonged to my dad and it would take hours to get the data off of them and I didn't want to use he his cable so I ordered this cable off of Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/AGPtek%C2%AE-Drive-Adapter-Converter-External/dp/B00BIE996S/ref=cm_rdp_product

Do Not by this!

I plug it in to the hard drives and not even 30 seconds pass before I smell burning and the room starts to smell like smoke and then fill with it and it is coming from my hard drive! I have other devices plugged into the power strip I plugged this garbage into and they are all okay,it's this product!

NOW I AM DOWN TWO HARD DRIVES!!! AGPTEK OWES ME BIG TIME,A PRODUCT LIKE THIS SHOULD NOT CAUSE A FIRE!!!

Yeah that is why I use local thrift shops when I want to add to my collection of games.  I got all of the Super Star Wars games for .50 each. Ebay is a rip off, thrift shops may take time but it can be fun and you will always get a better deal then Ebay.

Plus it gives you something to brag about on LGR's facebook page:)

I collect games too

EDIT: I mostly started because my brother gave me his old collection when he sold his house

I have been collecting all of my life.  I never have much money so i have to look for a good deal.  I used to use Gamestop and EB Games because when they were competing they would have really good deals and old games as far back as the Atari 2600 and they carried used PC games.  Then the companies merged, they got rid of the PC games, jacked up the prices for the used games so that now they only cost $5 less then a new game and most of the time they don't come with a case or instruction book, and got rid of all of the games for non current systems so I stopped using them a while ago.  I have found that you can get fairer prices on games at a thrift shop and chances are they have a better selection.

As I said I have been doing this for years and it's a great way to collect older games when you are low on cash. Yes it takes a lot of looking but I have found that is part of the fun. it great to walk into a store look around randomly and find a used game that goes for $50 for a buck at the local thrift store. It feels like finding a lost treasure plus there is no shipping and handling plus in most cases you are helping out a good cause.

My thrifting is one of the reasons this is my favorite thing LGR does.

I collect old Nintendo games, mostly NES and SNES, and it pisses me off when people ask three times what they're worth on ebay. It's getting to the point where Craigslist/Garage sales is the only way to get them for a reasonable price. Some people need to realize that it's nonsense to jack up the price of a lot by $20 because the label on Mario Bros./Duck Hunt has an intact label... And seriously, no one is going to pay $25 for Super Return of the Jedi for fuck's sake. It makes me so angry I can't even talk about it

I guess you are right on those points but I have to say I still loved every minute of it.

For all of it's goofyness I have to say I love Fringe and it's complex time line. I have to say I liked the alternate timeline because it gave Nina Sharp more of a direct connection to the characters and events happening onscreen. Before she was just the woman who worked for the guy who did a cameo now and again, she wasn't really directly connected to anything by her own actions, the alternate time line gave her that and I have to say her death was one of the saddest moments in the series for me.

I have to say I think the did a good job of giving the show closer in that the final feels like the natural end to the story and the final shot is the way I wanted it to end but at the same time I can't help thinking about what all the characters are going to be doing the next day.  It's rather like Return of the Jedi or The Return of the King in that respect and that is a good thing.

Did everything make sense?  I guess not.

Did I enjoy pretty much every episode to some degree? Oh yeah.

Did I love the characters? You bet!

So for me that is enough to give lapses in logic a pass.  I know there are other people who don't feel this way and i can't say they are wrong for noticing and being bothered by the plot holes,it's just for me it's the characters and where the story took them that mattered most and that is where Fringe really delivered. That and some really cool sci-fi ideas. I really want one of those Observer Guns that throws people across the room. Oh and those potato guns that fire smoke that takes people's faces. Oh and a type writer that communicates with another universe,I love type writers and that is just too cool.

As i said I know it didn't work for everyone but Fringe worked for me. I enjoyed every episode to some extent now that I finally got to sit down and see them all and I am sure i will enjoy them again some time in the future.

I think Brown Betty may be my favorite episode, that was a real trip.

I just watched the series final of Fringe for the third time in my life and once again I teared up like a baby.  This and Sleeping in the Light are the two series finals that make me try every time I see them.  Everything just comes together so well and it makes me sad not only that the story is coming to an end but that there are so many things being resolved between characters.  it is so expertly done I mean some of the lines that make me tear up are things like "Peter, what did I tell you? Cool!" and "Astrid is a lovely name" you know you are watching a good show that you love with good actors when lines like that can make you tear up.  I just love everything about this episode and by this point I loved just about everything about Fringe so to me this is an example of a perfect episode and a perfect series final.

You know it's funny but the other series final that makes me cry every time is Babylon 5's and the more I think about the more the two shows have in common. Both shows didn't think they were going to get a true final, both lacked support from their networks, both got a fifth season out of the blue, both had rough first seasons and the first time I saw them I hated them both thinking they were knock offs of other shows I love, and in both cases I came to love the shows and their characters. I admired where the writers took the characters, and how both shows brought big interesting ideas into my living room week after week and some how did it on a Tv budget.  I think Fringe and babylon 5 have the two casts of characters of any US made Sci-fi show that I love the most and watching this final just reminded me how much I loved this show.  Others may pick holes in it's plot, see it as an X Files rip off,or even hate it outright, but it will always hold a special place in the heart of this sci-fi fan.

I may have some problems with JJ Abrams' films but I will always admire him for putting together this show and finding the right writers, production team, and cast to bring it to life.

I can finally say that I have seen every episode of Fringe and it was a great ride and this final stands out as one of the all time greats if you ask me.
