Wow. Live action Legend of Zelda series from Netflix
Time

Yeah all those sound like good ideas.

I only went with mute because it would get rid of the problem of finding a voice and in a medivil type setting it would make him the ultimate underdog.  Mutes were not treated well back then.

I think it would be important to make the bond between him and Zelda as strong as possible so there would be something at stake the viewers could relate to and there would be a good reason it was called The Legend of Zelda.  It should be her story too.

I agree Link should be the ultimate do going hero like Luke Skywalker or Robin Hood.

Okay this is something I have been thinking about for a while and I don't have all the details sorted and I don't know how faithful this is to all the games so I don't think anyone will like it but if I was making the Legend of Zelda as a one off movie, not a Tv show like this, here is how I would do it.

First I would make it 2D animated in water colours so it would have a different look to everything else out there.

Second here is what the set up would be.  Link would be a poor mute(This gets rid of the problem of finding a voice after all these years that the fans would like)who grew up in a village in the shadow of the castle the young princess Zelda grew up in. like most people with a disability in the past Link would be treated badly by everyone and seen as basically a useless fool who had nothing to offer anyone.

One day when she was a child Princess Zelda would be touring the village with her father the king, when she would meet the young Link and she would be the only person who looked beyond the fact that he couldn't talk and see him as the good person who is full of creative ideas that he is.  She would quickly get shoed away by her father and handlers, because she shouldn't be seen with someone like that.

Still we see that over the years whenever she can sneak away from the castle she visits Link so as they grow up they become fast friends. She takes the trouble to learn how to communicate with Link and for his part Link respects her as a person and not just a princess.  So we get to watch them grow up as fast friends.

We then become aware that there is an old hermit fortune teller living in the woods who while some of the peasants like Link listen to him none of the Elites like the king respect him or see him as anything other then crazy.  He foretells that an evil wizard with an army will arise and that the only hope for the land will be Princess Zelda, she will be the only one who can kill him through a magic power that only the hermit and Link believe she has.  Zelda doesn't know who to believe and she doesn't really believe she has this power. Then there is a dark side to the foretelling as well.  It seems that if the evil Wizard kills Zelda at a certain place and when the moon is in a certain phase then not just him but his army will become unkillable.

Well when they grew up a evil Wizard(Gannon)does show up and he kidnaps Zelda.  The king just thinks it is bandits so he sends a team of knights to save Zelda but they are never heard from.  This is when Link decides that he must go after his old friend himself.  The Hermit gives him a magic sword and shield to fight Gannon's army with.

Link sets off on his quest and along the way he sees strange sights and meets other people who join him or help him in his quest.  In the end he reaches the place the Hermit told him to go on the night in question and in the nick of time he frees Zelda and then the friends working together fight off the army and Zelda unlocks her power and kills Gannon.

They then return to the castle and Link is honored as a hero.

The story would be mostly told through music and visuals, and the animation of Link since it would be told from his view point.  Given that it is said that the less dialog a movie has the better it does at the international box office I don't see this as being a problem.  It would be an epic animate film where the classical score would be a very important part of the story telling.

As I said I don't know how well this would go over with fans but it is the best idea I could come up with that pays tribute to the games while also telling a story that I think would work in a two hour movie.

What do you think?

Yeah as far as I can tell everyone had a really complex relationship with him.  it doesn't seem like anyone outright hated the man and he could be nice but he could also be full of himself, get dumb ideas that he insisted on going through with, and he could treat his family badly.  He kind of reminds me of Homer Simpson and I don't mean that as an insult.  I consider Homer Simpson to be one of the most perfect examples of a fictional character we love despite his many flaws because of his lust for life and being likable despite it.

If I could pick one word to describe Gene Roddenberry I think it would be human.

That doesn't change the fact that if he started preaching at me or I had happened to meet him while he was treating his family so poorly that I would not have had the urge to smack him to try and get him to snap out of it, but I don't think I would have hated the man either.

It must be said he did have a vision for Star Trek that he thought for and even when he was very wrong and he seemed to forget what Star trek was about when he started it I could at least respect him for fighting for what he thought was right even if I think he was wrong.

I seem to remember hearing a story about(I can't believe I am blanking on his name because I am a huge fan of his but that is the kind of week it has been)the guy who played Hellboy getting into full make up to visit a young cancer patient in the hospital.

It always makes me feel better when I hear stories like this coming out of Hollywood as opposed to ones about drunk driving or drugs.

The Place to Go for Emotional Support
Time

Please continue to pray for my aunt and her family.  She has not gotten worse but she has not gotten any better and she has yet to wake up.  They have found the source of the infection and it is in her lungs.  So she now has that in addition to the breast cancer.

As I said her daughter and I grew up together and she spent a lot of time at my house when she was younger while her mother was working so this is hitting us all really hard.

Pray for my uncle too because his wife is now in the same hospital where his father and brother died so this is really hard on him, thank you all for your support.

Okay then before this whole debate blew up I was looking for some decent third party DVR software to use with my computer's TV tuner card, does anyone know where I can find some?

I would be very grateful for any help you could give me.

http://www.dvbviewer.com

The last time I used it (a couple of years ago) I really liked it.

Thanks a bunch, I will give that a try.

That is a big help.

We can't afford to rent things or go out any more for fun so one of the things my family does for fun that doesn't really cost us anything is watch our favorite TV shows together as a family.  This may seem silly or childish but it really does help us to have that escape.  The only problem is most of the shows we like either come on when my mom is at work or too late on a school night for my little brother and sister to watch them.  We have been keep up with them and putting up with lip sync problems but it was getting on our nerves.

I know there are a lot of people worse off then us, but thank you for helping any way.

This is something that helps to lift my families spirits in these trying times.

The more I read about Roddenberry, the less I like about him, both as a creator/showrunner and as a person.

I think I had mentioned that I met that man a few times, and he swore like a sailor.  He truly enjoyed the adulation of his sycophants. I was not impressed.

You know I have met some sailors who never swear.  I think in this day and age the phrase should be replaced with saying that someone "Swears like a comedy internet critic" :)

My Dad was a sailor, and he swore a lot. ;)

Maybe I just need to spend more time hanging out at the docks.

Still the last time I did that I got hit on the head and woke up on cargo steamer, worst. summer vacation. Ever!

I am not saying it is wrong to enjoy the show or it was badly made, I am just saying that it could be silly.

I enjoy both it and lost in space but you have to admit when your show's premise is that the moon went flying out of orbit and now acts like a spaceship that never runs out of shuttles you are going to have a hard time getting scripts that are not silly.

I am not saying he is completely blameless but in both cases there were other things going wrong with the shows and he had to cope with reduced budgets, so I don't think he is some show wrecking monster who was a complete idiot and hated sci-fi as he is often painted.

I think he was most likely someone who was given a huge job and just wasn't up to the challenge. Sad but I don't think it makes him a bad person or a hack.

At least his bad stuff was the fun and campy kind of bad instead of the boring and depressing kind of bad.

To 100% fair in both cases Fred did face a reduced budget and was given less time to make episodes.  Also Space 1999 was pretty silly from the get go.

oh and from what I understand the network was putting pressure on him to make Star Trek more like Lost in Space since in the short term that series had made more money for ravel CBS.

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place

Thanks, things like this just wear me down.

I am taking my meds but in times of extreme stress like this some times it over comes them.

It doesn't help that I am stuck at home all day due to the lack of a job and all I can do is apply for jobs I never get and think about how much trouble I am in.  That tends to upset me.

Still I will stop complaining, as you said it could be much worse and there has to be something I can do.

On an unrelated note I have been writing so much lately I think I have worn out the space bar on my keyboard.  It only seems to be working about fifty percent of the time I hit it and I keep having to correct it while writing.  I have never had this happen to me before.  In fact I have never heard of it happening, but there you are.

Lies! Gene Rodenberry hit his head on a doorjam and all that was good in 60 years of Trek spilled out, completly without any help. All the bad bits were Bermans fault. Then Gene walked on water, ended segregation, and wrote that one show with Kevin Sorbo.

The man would be a saint, but gods outrank saints!

Yeah that is pretty much what you get from all the official star trek sites and books.

That is why in the 90s I had to look to unofficial sources of information when I wanted more details on the making of Star Trek.

Oh, and since you are passionate in defending both everyone's sexual rights as you are my religious rights, I really appreciate all those times you came to my defense when my beliefs were indeed mocked in this very forum with equal vigor.

Oh yeah.  You never did.

Because the two are not equal. Religion is some nonsense that human has created, while sex is essential part of the nature.

Don't get offended by this. As a scientist I still consider a possibility that the science is wrong and your religion is right. But the probability of that is extremely low.

Welcome to my ignore list. I have lost all interest in anything you have to say.

The odds are almost as low as the universe being created from nothing or life evolving by random chance.  Yes I keep up to date on the latest theories and studies, after all it is best to know what tune the devil is playing, but all of them at best side step the issue of the creation of the universe from nothing.

Still I know there is no winning this debate with a person like you because you see me and all others like me as backwards cave men who should be mocked and I have no desire to have this debate so I will just state what I believe, ignore you, and let everyone move on with their day.

Okay then before this whole debate blew up I was looking for some decent third party DVR software to use with my computer's TV tuner card, does anyone know where I can find some?

Yeah Roddenberry left nothing to his first wife and two kids from that marriage and in books and TV specials about the making of Star Trek and his life he acted as if they didn't even exist.  All because he wanted to carry on having affairs and after about five years of that his wife dared to divorce him, so he punished not only her but his kids as well.

To the point where even the media helps him cover up these fact because Paramount tries to make him look like Mr.Perfect all of the time.  I had to dig pretty deep back in the 90s to find out anything about his first marriage or his kids.

Also Lucas never wrote lyrics to a piece of music just to bilk the composer out of royalties.

So why I may not care for what Lucas has done to Star Wars or how he treats the fans, as a person I think I would get along a lot better with him then I would with Roddenberry.

At least with Lucas he seems like the type of guy that as long as you didn't bring up the prequels or the SEs he would be fairly easy going and fun to watch a movie with or talk about the rules of story telling in general.

Roddenberry on the other hand I get the impression that he would always be preaching at me with his self rightouse BS about how evil everyone else in the world is, while at the same time treating his family in a way that would make me want to deck him.

In short I would rather hang out with Lucas.
