Oh for crying out loud, really?

Did this really call for Godwinning the thread???

Look what I was saying is that when there is so much Star Trek out there then of course it is going to be hard for a movie to make more then $400 million at the box office, so if you limit the amount of Trek out there then it will make it more of an event when a new movie comes out.  At no time did I say they should burn the old film prints.  What I was talking about is something that is already done by Disney, they limit the number of home video releases of their classic movies and if they want to rerelease a film in theaters they don't release it on home video until after it has finished it's run in theaters.  That is all I was talking about doing.  The old stuff has been on home video for so long so maybe if they vaulted it for a few years so it didn't seem like every time you turned around you were seeing Star Trek it would make the release of the new movies more of a special event and they would do better at the box office.

Well a lot of people do seem to like them there does seem to be a bit of a backlash and the fact is for a blockbuster to break even for the studio it has to make back at least twice it's budget.  The last film made a lot of money but because it cost so much the studio saw very little of it.  It's the same thing that happened to Man of Steel, if you just look at the box office it was a huge hit but when you compare what the studio spent on it verse what they got back it was not a good return on the investment.  Paramount clearly wants these movies to do better that is why they ditched the old writers, still I think the big part of the problem is that Star Trek is competing with it's self so i think if they removed old Trek from home video and TV that would help a lot and make anew Trek film coming out more of an event that everyone would have to be there for.

One thing I think Paramount could do to help these movies is stop competing with themselves.  Right now these two movies have to compete with over forty years of other Trek and I think that is hurting them, what Paramount needs to do is send the message that these are not just another group of Star Trek films, these films are the only Star Trek.  They can do this by first vaulting the old Tv shows and films and not selling them on home video any more, Stop giving the old cast cameos in the new films, and remove the older shows from syndication and instead replace them with a new show that is set in the new time line that either shows side stories to the new films or takes place in that four year time cut we got in the first film and shows the cast at the academy.

I think if Paramount would let the new films stand on their own and make so if people want Star Trek they have to get with the times and watch current Star Trek it would help these films make a lot more money at the box office.

After a while people would forget about all the old shows and movies and they would be replaced by these films and they would be seen as Star Trek in everyone's mind. Paramount just has to support these films and only these films until the older fans go away and it stops being cool to bash these new films.

I saw the Fast Seven trailer during the Superbowl and was reminded that the next star trek could be as stupid.

Bayformers level stupid.  So bad that people will think JJ Abrams Trek movies were good.

There has been remarkably no news since the new director was hired.  Unlike Star Wars and Bond.

Yeah that is my big fear.

The fact that so many people seem to think the Abrams movie are some of the best films ever made leads me to believe it is only going to get worse and I should just stop caring about Star Trek.

Most people seem happy with the idea of another ITD or FaF In space as the future of the franchise so I guess I am just a grumpy old fart who is out of touch.

It's clear that the old ideas will not work in the modern world and it's time for the older fans like us to step aside so the way is clear for a Trek series that appeals to younger modern viewers.

After all we have three years of TOS, seven of TNG, another seven of DS9, and about half a dozen or more movies to watch on home video, we shouldn't damage the franchise by watching the new movies and complaining they are not like the old.  Instead we should just let it continue and keep our mouths shut.  Watch what we like and let the new people who seem to understand what it takes to make a hit movie in the modern world do their own thing.  No one is forcing us to watch these films so it's not worth worrying about if you ask me.

Given how well they have done I think it is clear that if we don't like them it's our own fault for being out of touch and being too blinded by our love of the old stuff to see how much better these new films really are.

It's time to stop bitching about new Trek and just step aside and let Star Trek change and keep pace with the modern world.

Yeah! Jesus never redeemed any sinners nor is he a forgive and forget kinda guy. And neither am I!
Once a bad person, always a bad person!
Fuck 'em!

???

Yeah because it's not like two thirds of the New Testament was written by a man who killed Christians and then changed his ways later.

It's also not like the point of the death of Jesus was to pay the price for sins so people could change.

Oh and it is very clearly the point that no one can change and once some one commits one crime they will commit all crimes.  That is why the penalty for all crimes no matter how minor is death.

Well there goes any chance of my watching it.  I hate highschool drama and I don't want to sit through the origin yet again.  Something tells me this movie will bomb too because I don't think I know anyone who wants to see Peter in highschool yet again.  Why does everyone in Hollywood assume that Spiderman's story ends the moment he leaves highschool.

I wish they would keep Garfield and just ignore the events of his films because while I didn't like him as much as Maguire when the script wasn't being completely stupid there were parts in TASM2 where he did a good job.

I say either do Spider-Girl or keep Garfield and just ditch the high school stuff, just please let Peter Parker grow up and stop telling the same stories with the same characters over and over again.

Spiderman is one of my favorite heroes but you wouldn't know it based on my reaction to his films because I am just that sick of the origin story.

Please do something different Marvel.

The please Help me, I am an idiot and know nothing about tech! Thread
Time

Okay this site is a really good place to ask tech question as people are very friendly and some of you seem to know a lot.  Still there are those of us who are complete morons and only know the very basic about drivers or how our Bluray players work and that has led to a lot of threads that ask tech related questions popping up in this section.

I decided to start an all purpose tech questions and answers thread, so if you have a question about your tech or maybe you have found a fix for something post it here.

I 'll start with a question.

Hey I have a PC that has a Geforce GT 610 with the latest drivers and it works great for pretty much everything except two games and those are the original Mass Effect and Mass Effect 3. Strangely enough it has no problems with Mass Effect 2.

The problem with Mass Effect is that some times, characters will disappear, the game will lock up and crash my whole system, sometimes my characters will be nothing but big black shadows(How ever this problem seems to fix it's self whenever I start a new mission), early on in the game when you are looking at the Citedal and talking about how big it is the game will crash in mid conversation, and worst of all on missions where Theaser Mawls attack the Mako the Mawls will always be invisible.

On Mass Effect 3 the problem is that some times characters will vanish and it will sometimes not let me hit buttons so I can interact with objects or talk to people that I need to in order to continue the mission. I will be standing right beside them and it will just not show the object or person as having the option to interact with it.

I have checked out everything else on my computer and it seems to be fine, the games have the latest patches and I have all the latest drivers. It seems to be a problem with the graphics card. I don't know if it is the drivers or what but something is screwy here and I have never had any problems with either of these games on my old computers.

If anyone here has come across this problem before and knows how to fix it I would be grateful if you would tell me how you did it.

Thank you for your time.

Oh and if windows 7 is running slow for you check out this video I made, it fixed the problem for me.

Do you want to mod your Mass Effect saves on the 360?  Here is how you do that.

Hope this helps someone:)

I will have said it before and I will say it again. The MCU is really lacking female characters with Super powers who get their own movies, that combined with the fact that I don't want to see the origin story yet again leads me to have this be my dream project, Spider-Girl coming into the MCU.

Have Peter in the movies played by an older actor who got his powers and was a hero in the 70s, he could still be involved in the plots doing science and research stuff while Mayday could have decided to go out there and help save the city after it was attacked in The Avengers. This would explain why we have not heard of Spiderman in the MCU up until know and we wouldn't be forced to sit through the origin yet again.

Plus they could give Peter flashbacks to when he was a hero in the 70s and 80s, so we could still see him in action. I know this will never happen in real life but it's my dream Spiderman film project.

JEDIT: Pardon my language

Well you know I hate it when you don't use proper English. I pardon you this time but next time spell it with "s".

"Z" is cooler than "S".

Color, harbor, glamor, etc. should always be spelt with a "U", though.

Btw in US schools, do you get bad grades if spell in proper English?

I find it amusing that some people think their version of a language is the "proper" one just because it's older. I don't imagine you'd agree that 15th century English is more correct than what we speak now.

Also why don't these same people speak ancient Gallic, Celtic, Norse, or Latin.  English is just a combination of all of those languages that doesn't use many of the words properly, combines their rules for grammar, and misspells some of the words.

In England up until around 1500 Latin was the language of the church and French was the languages of government, if you could not speak these two languages you were considered an uneducated idiot.  English was seen as nothing but one giant piece of tech speak, no one who was educated would be caught dead using it.  The point is language is not a static or dead thing, it is constantly alive and changing.

Should I even point out that the movement to end slavery in the United States was very much led by the church?

Also religion in general and in the Unite States Christianity in particular lets people face death without fear.  Right now it doesn't look like my mom's sister is going to make it and the only thing that is keeping my mom from breaking down is knowing that my aunt will go to a better place.

Now even if you don't believe and think this is something our brains have made up then surly you have to agree that this does give us an advantage and it is of value to the human race.

Please continue to pray for my aunt and her family.  She has not gotten worse but she has not gotten any better and she has yet to wake up.  They have found the source of the infection and it is in her lungs.  So she now has that in addition to the breast cancer.

As I said her daughter and I grew up together and she spent a lot of time at my house when she was younger while her mother was working so this is hitting us all really hard.

Pray for my uncle too because his wife is now in the same hospital where his father and brother died so this is really hard on him, thank you all for your support.

Haven't had much time, but I'll keep them in my thoughts and prayers.  Working in the medical field, I've come to have a greater appreciation for life and of just how easily and quickly it can end.  If your aunt passes, I am sorry, but also know, as you and I believe in a life after this, that God is watchful over all of us, and that if she passes, she will find herself in a happier state, pitying us struggling to make it through this mortal world.  Hang in there.  You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

 Thanks a lot.

My Aunt got much worse over night and the doctors are now not sure how much longer she has.  To make matters worse for my mom because of my dad's weakened emune system because of his heart transplant she can't even go into the Hospital room to see my aunt because she can't risk bringing the air born infection that is in my Aunts lungs back home with her, so this is very hard on my mom, please pray for her as well.

Thank you all for your prayers and support, this is a very hard time for my family.

One thing I would point out to anyone who says that Religion has caused wars so it is evil and should not be practiced is that in the past nations have gone to war over money and fishing rights.  So does that make those things in and of themselves evil, do you refuse to eat fish or get paid in money for your job because those things are evil and using them means you are trying to throw mankind back to the dark ages?

Okay I will go now, but I think it is a good point to make.  Man has a long sad history of using just about anything as an excuse to kill.  It's a fact of history.

I posted this in the random thoughts thread but then I saw that what I was responding too moved here so I hope no one minds if I post it here too since it is relevant to both thread.

I will post it here and then move on.

You know I had a revelation this weekend.

As Christians it is not up to us to make others believe, or talk them into it.  That is where we run into trouble. Christianity is about a personal relationship with god and that can not be forced.  Once someone is saved they will not want to sin any more. I think maybe we have been going about things backwards.  It is true certain sins cloud your mind and spirit and cut you off from God and that is why we are told not to do them, but the point of avoiding sin is to grow closer to God.  Without that relationship many of the teaching of the Bible make no sense.  It is tragic when a single soul is lost so that is what we should focus on. Instead of teaching the law first the way to truly change what is wrong with the world is to witness and focus on saving souls.

The good thing about that is that it isn't even up to us to make people believe, God doesn't even give himself the right to force people to obey him.  All Christians should do is state what we know to be the truth, the rest is between the person we are talking to and God.  We don't need to worry about winning points in debates and we should not get mad at others for not seeing the truth because that is where we were before the grace of God touched us through Jesus his son.

I know I have not been a good witness in the past and I was not keeping faith but that changes now.  I am not getting mad at people or engaging in pointless debates that there is no way to win, instead I will just say what I know to be true and trust in God for the rest.  After all if I truly am I Christian I should believe every word of the Bible is divine and that means trusting in God for everything I need and not hating others for what they says about me or my faith.  After all the Bible does say that God's word will not return void, so I will follow that from now on and will stop complaining and stop fighting with people.

After all it's not my battle to win.

Sorry about the long winded post and sorry for the way I have acted in the past, talking about killing myself and wishing death on others, that was very wrong of me.
