If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place
Time

No one will help us because on paper our family makes enough to support it's self but in reality after the bill collectors finish garnishing our paychecks there is nothing left and we have no money for food and since the fox killed off our chickens what food we do have has to go to my dad because eating properly is a condition of keeping his transplanted heart and he has to keep it so he can work.  The medical bills have left us with nothing and I still can't find a job and we can not move.

None of us have eaten in three days since we ran out of eggs.  We are slowly starving to death and there is nothing that can be done about it because of these medical bills.  We have tried every government and charity program but they all say the same thing, we make too much money to get help.  None of them take into account the medical bills we have because of my dad getting sick and now he needs a kidney transplant because the anti- organ-rejection drugs he is on for his heart have destroyed his kidneys so the bills are going to get worse and we can't get on the bad side of the hospital.

It's looking like the only hope for the rest of the family so for me to kill myself so they can eat my meat that is how bad it has gotten.  Slicing open my wrists seems plesent compared to the pain of slowly starving to death.

I really hope we get nuked or something, death is the only release from the horrors of trying to survive in america with medical bills.

Again, that's what the adapter's for. =P

 Oh sorry.

Wait, you mean it doesn't even have component out?  That just sucks.

Ouch, sorry to hear about that.

Oh whatever you do don't believe the pitch store sales people give you about $50 HDMI cables being better then the cheap ones. A friend of mine fell for that and what we found was there was no difference between my HDMI cables and the ones he bought.

Oh at least with an adapter you will also be ready for the current video games systems as I think they all only come with HDMI out, not owning one I don't know for sure but I think that is the case.

Oh and I just checked and this whole "no SD video outputs" thing must be fairly new because both my Philips and Magnavox players, purchased in the past two years, have SD video and sound outputs on them.

I think my Philips Bluray player is my favorite I have ever owned since it was cheap and I can hook a USB drive up to it and it will play any video file I throw at it, except MKV for some reason.  Oh and it will even play the files off of a standard data disc burned with windows.  So not only is it the cheapest Bluray player I have ever owned but it has the most features.  If only it were multi region and it played MKVs, it would be perfect.

Check Amazon Marketplace.  I have been with Bluray since late 2006 and the in store mark up on HDMI cables is still insane.  I buy all of mine on marketplace and they are just as good as the ones in the store and I have never paid more then $4 for an HDMI cable.

Quick question if your TV is so old does it even have an HDMI input?

Oh and I have to say as someone who lives in a small house I like flat screens for the simple reason that they take up less space.  I mean before we had to have a big piece of furniture in our living room to hold our big screen TV, when we got a flatscreen we also got back two whole feet of living space in the living room.  Even my mom who doesn't care what the picture looks like on most things loves that.

Robin Hood- Prince of Thieves

I would say J but he is one of the things they ripped off of Robin of Sherwood and he was bad ass in that show and Morgan Freeman delivers the only preformance I like in the movie, even if his character does feel out of play.

Honesty if you have problem with some of the "new" stuff this movie added rent the series Robin of Sherwood, it's where this movie got pretty much all it's ideas from and you will see why the film makers thought they would work in the first place.

I think I didn't made my point clear.

I didn't say this is always the case but as I understood it the reason people complain about violence being onscreen when sex is not is that they think that it does say something about us that we like the violence.

What we like is determine by something inside of us or our personality can be changed by what we watch or read.  At least that is what I pick up on when people get morally outraged by violence and say that it should be replaced with sex because sex isn't bad.  I may have misunderstood but the only reason to get mad about the content of a book or film is if you think it either says something about us as a people or you are afraid it will have an impact on the people who read or watch it and change them in some way.

Now under that logic I am just saying that in general then if you think something is anti-woman, anti-black,anti-jew, or ant- whatever. Then find a few people from that group that likes it doesn't disprove the point that the work does have that world view.  All it proves is that a few people in that group either hate themselves or they like the work so much they have overlooked the over all message of the piece.

Again I can't say if that is the case here but I think in general the point still stands.

No if what we watch and read says nothing about who we are on the inside and it doesn't change who we are then I don't see any reason in general to be any more upset by violence then sex since they are both works of fiction.  If Fifty shades of grey doesn't tell us anything thing about the woman who read it and it isn't worth getting upset over then I don't think Dredd or The Lord of the Rings says anything about the people who read or watch them and they are not worth getting upset over either.

Again this is just a general point of logic I was making.

I think in reality no matter how logical and unemotional we claim to be we all have our buttons for things we don't like seeing in movies because we don't approve of them and so we assume the worst about the people who like them.  For some people that is sex, for others it is violence, and in my case it is Micheal Bay.  The point is that it is human nature to see the stuff we like as being okay while seeing the stuff we personally don't like as being garbage that should be banned or get a higher rating from the MPAA.

Again I am not judging anyone I am just trying to make a general point about human nature as I see it, that is all.

Sorry if this upset anyone.

Your favo[u]rite directors
Time

Nolan may be my favorite director working today.  Somehow he is able to make action movies that give me something to think about and at the say time the pull aways for the PG13 rating feel like an artistic choice not one brought on my censorship, I know they are not but when I watch the movies he fools me into thinking they are.  His movies also make me laugh and feel grim while usually leaving the viewer with a sense of hope with out copping out.  That is so rare these days, I look forward to his next movie whatever it is.

I also like the fact that he and his brother have come out and said that they make movies about real world problems that they don't have the answers to.  So many film makers only make movies about problems they think they have the answers to so the films feel preachy and have straw men set up for other points of view.  Compared to other popular films Nolan films and Person of Interest steer clear of this. Not to say it doesn't happen but it doesn't happen to a degree where I want to throw something at the screen.

He has a very clear directing style and while his action scene are full of energy I can always tell what is happening in them and he does capture the feel of real world locations.

He will never win an Oscar because his films are too popular and are mostly built on suspense and action but I am okay with that.

If I had to compare him to one classic film maker it would be Hitchcock.  Not because I think he is as good as Hitchcock but because he does bring an artist's touch to films that normally don't get that type of treatment.

My point was just because some woman like it doesn't mean that it isn't anti woman.

The fact is you can find self hating people in any group who approve of things that go against the best interest of the group.  That is just part of the human condition so the argument that some stuff is okay just because a member of that group likes it doesn't really wash.

I have not read one word of the book so i can not speak for it's case, I was just making a general point.

Hey does anyone here know of a good program for recording off of a TV Tuner card on the PC?

I have been using a TV tuner card on my PC as my recording device for years but I can't use Windows Media Center because I don't have highspeed internet where I live and lately the program that came with the tuner card has gotten stuck recording at 59.97 frames per second so as you can imagine lip sync is way off on anything I record.  I have tried reinstalling the program but that has not worked so I need a new program.

I tried using google and Bing to search for a DVR program but all I got were a bunch of results for watching TV off of the internet, not recording it from my TV Tuner card.

If anyone here knows of a good third party program that will let me control the frame rate programs are recorded at I would be grateful for the help.

So again why have any rules?

Again if the Patriots could have won without cheating why did they cheat.  If the answer is because it wasn't a risk for them and they won any way then the question becomes why wasn't it a risk for them, the only answer can be that they know that the NFL will not punish them the way other teams are punished. Again this is a team that has been caught bugging over teams locker rooms and is never punished.  So we know they will always win so what is the point of watching?

Look the game was already boring for me and now I know what the outcome of every season will be there is no point in watching.

Most people seem to think the Patriots cheating doesn't matter or they should be praised for it because cheating is all part of the game.  If that is the case I do have to wonder why we can't get rid of the refs and the times outs they cause so the game will move faster, whatever.

The bottom line is the vast majority of NFL fans are fine with what happened and think it is wrong to disagree with NFL policy. Fine I can live with that, but it does mean this sport is not for me any more so I have stopped watching and now I am going to stop talking about it.

I am not judging anyone or say they are bad people I am just saying that there is no point in talking about this any more because for me the damage has been done.

Sorry if this upsets anyone but that is where things stand.

Will action flicks continue to have mainstream american presence?
Time

Yeah, that is what bugs me about some people.  It's okay to show a city block being destroyed but not to show the amount of pain caused by a single person dying?

At least old R rated action films and movies like Dredd show the impact and horror of taking a life.  They also show that the person who takes the life, even if he is a hero pays a price for doing it.  I think the title song for Casino Royal perfect sums up what an action movie's perspective on violence should be.

It's like when in movies now they try to have Nazis without calling them Nazis or showing the full horror of what they did, you are white washing the facts and making the Nazis not look so bad.  I mean in the Captain American movie the argument seemed to be that the Nazis were the lesser of two evils.  When Red Skull breaks away from the Nazis it is played as if a really bad thing is happening and the Nazis were in fact holding him back from some of his evil plans.  Now maybe that was not the intent of the film makers but that is how it played because the evil of the Nazis was never shown and they were opposed to redskull the villain of the film, so I am afraid some kids will walk away with the impression that the Nazis were not so bad.  it's the same thing with violence.

I know alot of people will dispute me on this but it's why I think Man of Steel has the moral high ground over the Avengers.  In both films a city is destroyed in the climax but in Man of Steel the impact is shown while in the Avengers it is just shown as a fun little adventure and the heroes are laughing and making jokes at the end.  In the Avengers any people who are in danger are saved and we don't see anything thing from their perspective. Also killing hundreds of aliens who don't even have names leaves no impact on the heroes and they just make jokes at the end of it.

In Man of steel there are three characters on the ground and we see things from their perspective.  Yes, they live in the end but it is by pure chance and in their faces we see that that know they are the lucky ones.  It also goes to great lengths to show that when a city becomes ground zero for a war even if it is being fought by someone as good as Superman there is no way to avoid the deaths of civilians and some times there is no way to avoid the fight so in that way it brings the full horror of war out in the open to be seen and it shows that even when you are the good guy you still can not save everyone and your actions can still have bad outcomes.  Then at the end Superman falls apart as the full impact of what has happened hits him, including the killing of Zod and his followers.  Yes it was the right thing to do and there was no other option but it still leaves Superman with a scare and the impact the battle had on the people on the ground is shown.

To me MOS approach to violence and urban warfare is much better then The Avengers'.  I think that is the approach most action movies should take.  Show the impact since it draws us into the story and it sends a better message, if that means getting an R rating then so be it.  I don't think the R rating will always happen since as I said I think Man of Steel got the point across with a PG13, still why it gets a PG13 and something like Death Wish where the hero vomits after the first time he attacks a guy gets an r rating is beyond me.

The MPAA is mess up and this is why I don't really pay attention to film ratings any more.

No, but if you didn't earn the trophy then why would you want it?

I mean I hope to make a living with my writing some day so I will be doing it for money, but I wouldn't want to win an award for my writing if I had to pay people off to get the award.  Even if it did cause my books to sell better, having the award sitting on my shelf would just be a painful reminder that I was not good enough to get the award in an honest competition.  So I really don't see the point, sorry.

Well their owner is friends withe highest official in the NFL, also they are like the Yankees of Football, they are the team who is the face of the league to the world at large, they are supposed to be the best team according to the league and broadcasters. Let me put it this way, the team and the coach have been caught cheating many times and nothing meaningful has been done to them, this is from the same league that was quick to fine players from other teams for offensive gestures that have no impact on the outcome of the game, so the lack of response on the part of the league can not be due to them thinking the cheating had no impact on the game. Also if it had no impact then why did the Patriots do it in the first place?  The lack of response on the part of the NFL can not be fore lack of proof since in at least one case no one saw the offensive gesture.  So the only logical conclusion is that the NFL is allowing the Patriots to cheat because the people at the top want them to win and they know that in a fair contest they can not win.  That is the simplest answer that explains both the cheating and the NFL's lack of response to it.

Now since that is happening that the contest and the victories have no meaning.  This combines with the fact that the game is feeling slower and slower to me every year, has killed my interest in NFL football.

I'm sorry but this is as clear as I can make my feelings on the matter now, so I think I will just leave it at that since I have said all I have to say.

I think the real problem is that so many of today's action flicks dumb themselves down and don't show any blood to get a PG13 rating.  I am sorry but it just looks silly to me when someone is supposed to have been shot but we don't see any blood, it just looks like a bunch of guys acting silly and then throwing themselves to the ground.  I think that is why escapist fantasy fair is doing well, because at least there is usually a story reason in those films that we don't see blood.  Oh and don't get me started on the movies that cut away every time someone is shot.  Violence makes people bleed, to pretend overwise makes your movie look silly.  It seems like action movies used to understand this but lately they have forgotten this very basic fact.

Basically, they're all Starfleet/Terran Empire uniforms I've designed for the Star Trek reboot I'm putting together. They range from the Pike years all the way through to the time of the Dominion War.

Yeah that is what I meant by giving up on pro football.  College games just have more energy and things get moving between plays faster.  Now adays in pro sports it feels like you have to watch the last play a dozen times before the team will make the next play.  It's downright sleep inducing some times.

Yeah I think it will be college sports from here on out for me.

I didn't consider you an enemy here.  I may have lost my temper a little but I learned long ago not to carry on with that sort of thing when it happens.

I think this may just be straw that broke the camel's back for me.  It doesn't seem to bother other people but over the past few seasons with all the extra time outs the game just feels like it takes way longer then it used to, i don't know if it really does but it feels that way and unless the Packers are playing I have been losing interest.  Now that this has happened I just don't feel any pressing need to watch any more.  I didn't plan this, I have just lost interest and that is a shock to me as much as anyone else.

So if they are not going to enforce the rules and it is pointless to try why do we have rules and why come down so hard on players for things that have no impact on the game?

I still think that if it had been any team other then the Patriots the coach would have been banned or fined at the least.

I guess I am done with pro football after a lifetime of watching, since as you say it is all based on who can break the rules the best and nothing can be done about it.

I just don't see what the point of cheating is.  I mean what fun is it to win a trophy if you know you didn't earn it?

What is the point of watching if still doesn't even factor into who wins.

I was already getting bored with Football because of the Coach's challenge and review of every scoring play slowing the game way down.  This has now pushed me over the edge.  It just seems pointless now.
