Cinema usually taps into childhood.

I remember weeping like a baby at the end of Peter Jackson's King Kong...

Are you sure you didn't weep because it was too damn long?
I wept because it was so damn terrible. And long.

I loved it.

In fact in some ways I prefer it to the original.

Key Largo 9/10

Cabaret 8/10

Bringing Out the Dead 9/10

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 9/10

So, I've had this goal to watch every film on both of AFI's Top 100 Movies lists. I've been working on it for awhile, and saved the "best" (number 1) for last. I've never seen it before, and I finally watched it today (coincidentally Orson Welles' birthday).

Citizen Kane 10/10

I wasn't wowed. This might be because I already knew the reveal, though that did allow me to pick up on all of Kane's motivations throughout the film. But don't get me wrong. I almost wish I didn't know it was so acclaimed, so I could be surprised by both the end of the film and its quality. Either way, this is most certainly one of the greatest films of all time. Just maybe not the greatest.

Still miss the ride.  My one true BTTF childhood soft spot...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmIHlAuE2Wo&feature=related

It's just not the same, man.  I own the DVD with it, but watching it without the motion simulator would ruin any and all memory I have of it so I've chosen not to do a rewatch.

I know, it's not the same.  I only got to see Star Tours once in the simulator, more than a decade ago.  Now I've done my very best to track down a decent version of it, with relatively little success.  This is the only way I'll ever get to enjoy for the rest of forever, but I totally understand why you don't want to watch it.  Just thought it might help :)

That's a shame. Good thing when I went to Disney I was six years old and over-obsessed with Star Wars! I rode it 7 times! (over two days)

Also good for me is I've been back three times since!

No idea when I'll be able to go again and see the new one.

Vader: A Saga Edit
Time

Oh yeah.

I actually meant to give an update on this a few months back. Some time in the beginning of December, I finished my initial rough cut of this. After that, I decided to put it on hold indefinitely. I'm fairly happy with what I did plot wise, but I think there are many ways in which I would like to improve it, namely the audio. Most of the transitions are fine, but there's definitely room for improvement. The biggest thing I would like to do, though, is some extensive music replacement. It wouldn't be a complete replacement, mind you, but it would be extensive.

Anyway, the thing is, it'll be awhile until I can obtain an editing software that can truly fulfill what I have in mind for this edit, so it has been post-ponned indefinitely.

@princethomas, that's actually a pretty good idea. I don't know if I would use that shot exactly, but I'll try do something along those lines when I come back to this.

To reiterate, I have finished a very rough cut that has a runtime of 2:56:37, not including credits. If anyone's interested I could try to find a way to post it online, but I don't think anyone would want to watch it.

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

You to factor in foreign grosses though. Even if it doesn't make back it's money doemstically it still has overseas markets. If you ask me, I think Lucasfilm is just going to keep rolling on with their original plan. I also doubt that they really expected TPM3D to be a Lion King level success. AOTC will definitely be a problem for them, but I doubt they'll do anything other than agressive marketing.

Of course, what they should do, is re-edit the film to make it better.

Okay, I'll clear up what I said. I have an immense appreciation for Birth of a Nation's innovation, and that's why I gave it a 6 (which is not bad).

However, the story is boring, uninteresting and offensive; and the pacing is far too slow.

The film is not badly made, it's just kind of bad.

Again, I'm all for giving an innovative film its due, but there are some people who call the picture a masterpiece and I think that's just ridiculous. The plot is a definite flaw. Again, I also understand the innovation in cinematic plot structure, but that's not everything.

Just my thoughts.

The Birth of a Nation 6/10

This film is really overrated. I'll break down the movie into it's two parts.

Part 1 (Civil War):

Pros - Innoffensive

Cons - Boring, uninteresting, and way too long

Part 2 (Reconstruction):

Pros - Less boring and a little more interesting

Cons - REALLY racist, historically inaccurate, and way too long

What we're left with is a bad movie. The point it makes is extremely ignorant and stupid, and was so even when it was released. I understand and could clearly see, however, the film's innovation in cinematography, plot, and editing, and, well, that's really the only reason why I'm giving it a 6.

John Carter 8/10

My friends couldn't get over all the cliches (I tried to explain to them about the fact that it's based on a 100 year old book, but, to their credit, they also complained that the dialogue was cliche, and yeah I think they were right about that).

I thought that even though it wasn't perfect, it was thoroughly interesting, enjoyable, and entertaining.
