I just finished The Sopranos last night. What an incredible piece of television. One of the best shows ever for sure.

It's a small victory I think. Remember that the film was made by Marvel, a fact that was prominent in the marketing. Marvel has become one of those rare studios that can produce a hit based on brand alone. A good comparison (perhaps the only one) is Pixar, which cranked out nearly a dozen completely original hits. The film also suffers a bit from it's contractual obligation to fit into that universe, what with the superfluous references to Thanos and the infinity stones. Plus half the cast is just there to be more important in the sequel, and even some who are important in this film have been slighted for the sake of a sequel.
But, of course, I'm focusing on the negative, which isn't fair, as this is an almost entirely positive thing. The fact of the matter is that GOTG is better than the large majority of summer blockbusters, and has a highly enjoyable tone - the likes of which hasn't been seen in years. Most importantly, except for the Marvel brand recognition, this is a completely alien film property, and it has managed to touch the heart and souls of moviegoers and is now the highest grossing film of the year in the US. If this film convinces studios to take more risks on unestablished live action properties, then the galaxy will be better for it.
He's only a few years younger than me. That makes us relatively the same age, considering how old some of the people on this forum are. So I can make fun of him too, right?
I could say this:
Hey, Fiery Editor, no one cares that you dislike "Adywans Star Wars revisited." Your opinion is dumb. Enjoy the edit for what it is: a fan's labor of love to create his own alternate version. Contrast to Lucas, whose intention was to make a replacement version. And where's your fan edit mister "editor"? I don't think you have a leg to stand on.
...but everyone else has pretty much said all that already. Oh what? I did just say that? Well okay.
What am I doing here again?
Most if not all of my friends like Star Wars, but casually. Certainly not enough to invite here.

Same.
Please don't pretend that is better than the JJ Trek films or "every big studio sci-fi movie or show in the past five years or so."
When I was 2, I saw the OT on VHS (Faces). Of course I don't remember that first time, but I watched it pretty constantly thereafter. So I basically can't remember a time when I hadn't seen the OT.
Saw all three prequels in the theaters twice each.
Saw the SE a year or two after I saw TPM. I did not like it and did not understand the reason for its existence.
People are really stretching the term "competing."

There would be fan edits a-plenty
But obtaining fan edits is illegal and requires lots of technical knowledge.
Neither of these things are true.
I'm a huge fan of Pratt and would see him in anything. But Indiana Jones? I'm sorry, but for me, Indy is Harrison Ford only. I'd love to see Pratt in his own Indy-type adventure film, though. Shame, imagine if Pratt played Indy's son in KOTCS. I wouldn't have minded if he got a spin-off.

Since 1980 ANH has been Episode IV.
I thought it was 81?
As I said I have some sympathy for people who say the films should be watched in the order they were made but there is no reason why the plot of the films shouldn't work in either order.
See the issue is if the secret is preserved in the PT then those films will seem strange to watch after the OT.
To be honest the birth of Vader in ROTS is so badly handled I'm not sure if any of the material is usable but I wouldn't 'kill the idea' of using it. Someone might be able to get it to work.
Of course how well the birth of Vader is handled is an issue, but I think it's a whole other issue. Either way, getting the film to work in that regard isn't easy. If you keep it, it's not perfect. If you get rid of it, you're getting rid of half the movie.
To be clear I am interested to see a version of the PT that preserves a secret in a smart and clever way (i.e. not just removing the scene where Anakin puts on the suit) which I believe Ady will do. I just believe it is better not to do it at all.
Here's a good list from TVTropes: Dueling Movies.
I get your reasoning, I guess it's a matter of point of view. To me, making earlier episodes, rather than prequels, seems rather pointless. Why even show the earlier exploits of Anakin if you're not going to show him turn to the dark side and become Vader? That's the whole reason why the films were made, really.
It makes sense to view the films in order of release, and see the use of "Episode" as an indication of chronology and the release order as a clever conceit to hide certain facts.
I don't know how anybody could watch ESB (the first film to have "Episode" in the title and also the film with the big surprise) and not think "oh, Episode V, I wonder what happened in the three episodes before Star Wars," and then, when Vader reveals his true identity, think "oh my god, that must be what happens in those three episodes, Luke's father becomes Vader!"
Ultimately this is my biggest issue. Why have a prequel trilogy, why follows these characters if not to learn exactly what happened before the OT? Are you sure you want to watch a six film saga where one of (if not the most) central character has a life altering transformation practically offscreen?
All I know is if ROTS skipped the birth of Vader I would have been royally pissed off.
The force was his master.

I know, but in Empire for example I believe there were a couple of shots of the rebel fleet added in later prints that were also on the tapes. Is it unacceptable if those are included too, even though they've been around forever without any complaint? Also, I'd be surprised if they take out the New Hope crawl, if they do then it'll make the saga less cohesive, not that the "Saga" is coherent at this point anyway, but Disney won't want to do that. I'm just saying, if we get 2k transfers of the IP's, should we really be outraged? If they sell it with Han still shooting second or it's non-anamorphic, then absolutely we should be outraged, but if we get a restoration of the films in 4K, but in the form we saw on all of our tapes and LD's then I don't think any anger is warranted.
Yes we should absolutely be outraged. If someone takes a shit on my desk, I don't care how big it is. 3 inches, 12 inches, doesn't matter, either way it's unacceptable.
We should not settle for anything less than the films as they were originally released.
Anything but the films as they were originally released is unacceptable.

It is rumour in English.
English is a point of view.
The thing you speak in America is the Special Edition of original English, made by a third party. As a comparison, Star Wars Special Edition at least has some merit since it was not made by a third party.
The difference between rumor and rumour is like the difference between Greedo shooting first and Greedo not shooting at all.
The thing you speak is closer to what we speak in America than original English, or even the English that was spoken when our nations parted.
Of course but that is not the point I was making. So to adjust the comparison, one is director's cut and the other is fan edit.
Oh, sorry, I forgot how annoying you are.

I like the idea of Han and Chewie taking over a Star Destroyer and putting it to use smuggling or something. It harkens back to Crimson Jack and his band of pirates in the Marvel comic.
Of course, it also fits the other theory that the New Republic put all that leftover Imperial hardware to good use.
Ah man, almost bought this comic at the antique shop the other day, $3. Need to go back and get that.
Also, while I remain skeptical of almost everything that has been leaked so far, I believe now is the time for me to leave this thread and not return until Dec. 2015.
Best: Attack of the Clones blooper reel
Worst: Return of the Jedi 2004 SE
Those pics make me so happy.
I agree this is a common PT edit idea that I think just really sucks. You miss the worst part, though. If the idea is to preserve the twist in ESB, you're doing yourself no favors by having Anakin turn to the dark side anyway. Half the surprise from "I am your father" is that Anakin wasn't what Ben and Yoda said he was, that he actually turned to evil. Leaving that part in and expecting the twist not to be ruined is just stupid.
Silent Running (1971) - Really cool effects and a nice message don't quite make up for weak characters and plot. Bruce Dern is amazing though. B-
King Solomon's Mines (1950) - Rather slow for a high stakes adventure. And a little anti-climactic too. Still, a high quality production. B
The Shop Around the Corner (1940) - This was a bit of a surprise. I had only read about it in the context of You've Got Mail (which I have not seen). A very wonderful film. This is my third Lubitsch film, I really should watch more. B+
Remember when people said Hamill would look like shit for the ST? Well, guess what, he looks perfect. Couldn't ask for anything better, even more excited now.
Why.
