Why does our society glorify sex? Further, why is the abuse of women so popular that Hollywood has to release a BDSM pornographic movie and rate it only R?
Funny, I thought our society glorified violence, as it's gets more of a pass from the MPAA than sex usually does. Blow people away all you want, but if you show just one penis, it's NC-17 for you! ;)
I thought the fanbase for the book was mostly women? Go fig.
Exactly right on both counts.
Yep.

Yes.
Can you elaborate for me On your yes?
I am actually the same age as the guy in Boyhood and yes I found the film to be very accurate in its depiction of youth for those 12 years.
Yes.

On a side note: if you factor out the 12 years gimmick, is Boyhood as great as moat critics say it is?
Boyhood is a great film whether you decided to not like it because of one asshole's stupid review or not. And the 12 years concept is not a gimmick, and is, in fact, crucial to the experience of the film.
But I don't see how Boyhood has anything to do with Star Wars (well, besides the two scenes where they talk about Star Wars).
This is officially the dumbest thread ever.
MPAA is garbage.
Action films have been more or less replaced with comic book films, which I'm fine with. Not much a difference between them, really. Straightforward action films are still out there, but they're rarely hits.
Kevin Costner ain't no Errol Flynn. Will stick with the '38 pic like others here.
The Raimi Spider-Man films are perhaps the real culprit behind our modern slate of blockbusters.
The PT's influence was minimal. It popularized digital photography (though that was inevitable) and prequels, to some extent. But they really haven't had any influence besides that.
I could spend all day listing exciting directors still working today. Snyder and Bay are far from "all we have." They're actually very easy to ignore.
If you think this has been a bad decade for movies so far then you're just watching the wrong movies.
I'd rather Wedge not show up in the new films. It'd be very fan servicey. Too much so.
Not a sports fan at all but I watch the Super Bowl every year because I do enjoy a football to some extent. This year my team, the Patriots were in, and they won, and the game was fantastic! Very fun.
And that's all I have to say about that.
^Well Flight was pretty good. The Walk has potential. Lets forget about the mo-cap stuff. He's done some great films.
I was hoping they weren't going to reboot, but I guess why not?
I love adventure movies, and the Indy franchise has got that genre down pat. Every adventure film since has just paled in comparison. Why should a franchise that is over have a monopoly on a genre?
Bring on the soft reboot. No origin story, no pretension that this fits into the continuity of the last four films. New actor, back to the 1930s setting.
Chris Pratt is not Harrison Ford, but that doesn't mean he's not as good. He's just different. Bond has thrived on variation in the casting of their main star. So they should go with Pratt, because he's a fantastic actor. As long as they don't make him act like he's Ford, we should have a great new Indy.
Now hire Brad Bird and get cracking!
So many great ones.
Spielberg, Scorcese, Hitchcock, and Kubrick are my definite favorites. Then there's guys like Kurosawa, Leone, Tarantino, Nolan, Anderson (both PT and Wes but much more so the former) that have always made great stuff. Then there's other greats like Wilder, Capra, Welles, Bergman, Hawks, etc. Man, I could spend all day listing my faves. I'll try to think of a more coherent list.

Hmm, so I said that as a joke, but it turns out that, um, yeah: http://www.myfoxboston.com/story/27948332/yeti-roams-boston-street?utm_campaign=

Glad to see an update. And that pic is brilliant.

In my view PT era Jedi all had blue sabers and Luke is the first to go green.
Agree so much. If I ever do PT edits my first priority would be to learn how to rotoscope and make that happen.
I'm taking a class on American films of the 1970s, and was pleased to see this on the syllabus, under films we'll be studying from 1977:

Fine if you think I am so evil and have nothing to say that is of any value or worth reading that is fine.
You have one chance to remove my woman hating filth from the planet. If you tell me to I will go out to the kitchen right now and put a knife through my throat and no one will ever have to deal with my evil again, this is a one time only offer.
Just posting something strange to see if you would check it. But you're not ignoring me anymore, so it doesn't matter.
On your second point, I hope you're being facetious and, if not, I sincerely wish that you seek some psychological help.
I guess he doesn't care anymore. Not being ignored.
That's certainly a reasonable response to what I said.
