Honestly, a hybrid fan edit of L8wtr and Hal’s for episode 3 is better than TFA

No way. I’m one of the few who can actually watch and enjoy the prequels. They’ve been with me for much of my life, and I’ve spent a good amount of time trying to find the right fan edits and consider how things could be improved. But seeing TFA makes me want to give that all up and forget the prequels ever even happened. No need for them when we now have something that’s so much better than they could ever be.

And, about the deeper philosophical elements in the PT, they’re almost there, but they’re really not. Even when I was young and considered ROTS one of the best films of all time I still felt like they didn’t really explore the philosophical elements all that much. Interesting things are set up, but they’re not gone into. Good fan edits remove some of the clutter so you can see those interesting things beneath the surface, but they can’t add what’s not there. Matthew Stover’s ROTS adaptation is the only thing that does justice to the story’s potential. It’s entirely possible that scenes were filmed and then cut, but at the end of the day what’s in the movie is in the movie. And it’s not all that well done.

Yeah, Force Awakens was my favourite movie of 2015 but Fury Road is arguably the more innovative and better-structured movie and it deserved every award it received.

I’ve been seeing a lot of Fury Road hate and mockery from Star Wars-centric accounts on Instagram today and I’m just like “Can’t we have room in our hearts for both of these movies?”

My thoughts exactly.

Threepio remarks to BB-8 that he needs to get his proper arm reinstalled on as they walk away from Han and Leia in that same scene. Very easy to miss (didn’t notice until I think the fourth time I saw it).

As for him getting the gold arm back, I’m 90% sure there’s a scene where that happens that was cut for pacing. The one thing that confuses me is why not digitally make Threepio’s arm red in that last shot of him? Because it’ll be strange if he’s back to golden arm next movie after spending the whole film with the red, but it’ll be a continuity error if he keeps the red.

Bullshit. Inside Out was fantastic and one of Pixar’s best. They don’t just win for showing up. The crap Good Dinosaur wasn’t nominated and the pretty good Monsters Univeristy wasn’t nominated either.

Maybe you didn’t like it, but others definitely did for more than just supposed blind allegiance to a studio.

Sounds like they’re probably holding a lot of it back for now.

Let’s hope not. I guess we won’t know for sure until later. But JJ said 20 minutes, which is a lot. 7 scenes could reasonably make 20 minutes but then again could easily be less. We’ll see.

Info Wanted: What is considered by most fans to be the best edit of the Prequels?

I am more curious about why people absolutely adore L8wtrs episode 3 edit though as their favorite. I appreciate his work and find it to be a very exceptional edit (best quality deleted scenes Iv ever seen) but there are a lot of sloppy cuts and he keeps the balcony scene and the apartment scene. Just curious

He’s got a unique structure that I think works better than another edit I’ve seen of the film. There’s a V2 coming out soon that will likely fix any less than stellar cuts (of which there aren’t very many). Th balcony scene is kept because it’s the only time in the movie we get to see Anakin and Padme happy together. Not sure what apartment scene you’re talking about.

The rumor that there was a script rewrite is just a rumor right?

Scripts are constantly changing, even into production, even on the best movies. Rewrites have definitely been happening, especially with the audience reaction to TFA informing what is/isn’t working in regards to the stories and characters. The question is simply how much has been rewritten, and whether that’s something to worry about. I’d say probably not too much and definitely not.

Now that I think about it, the only thing (or at least, the first thing) I’d really want to change (if I had the software, time, or know-how to do such things) is the colors. Teal and orange was prominent in many scenes (as with most modern movies), which was especially noticeable upon second viewing. Unless my eyes are being weird and I’m seeing things that aren’t there (which has happened before).

Your eyes might be weird. Colors are pretty natural throughout. Didn’t notice an orange shift anywhere, though the First Order interiors often had a teal look due to the lighting. If you want you could pretty easily remove that, but I’m not sure why. There’s nothing inherently wrong with teal and orange.

I swear the stars behind the crawl looked blue. The rest of the stars looked fine to me, but the first stars just looked blue to me.

It still isn’t inherently bad, in fact I think it looks pretty good. I’d just want it to better fit the OT. It really is, for the most part, the First Order interiors, like you said. This is about what I had in mind (taken from a youtube video I found):
stormtroopers

If you don’t like it and want to get rid of it, that’s totally fair. But it’s definitely an in-universe lighting thing - in the scene that pic comes from we see the lights flicker on in that teal color, off, and on again in a natural color.

She could have just deleted her profile

Unless I don’t understand what this means (I don’t Facebook), why on earth would she do that?

Many people feel facebook is addictive and takes up too much time so they delete their profile to stop themselves from using it. But seeing as the entire profile can be brought back in a few clicks, any attack against your usage of facebook would be a useless venture, no matter what technical data you’ve obtained.

I have no idea what you are trying to say. She blocked him from viewing her page. What makes you think she’s addicted to Facebook and wants to get away from it?

Possessed thinks that maybe the reason Duracell can’t view her page is because she deleted it, not because she blocked him (which he thinks might not have happened). He also thinks the deleting of the profile is unrelated to Duracell.

What is so wrong about gay romance being in Star Wars?

I’m surprised more people don’t talk about how gay Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are. Look at this:

Actually think how interesting the PT would have been if there was a Obi-Wan/Anakin/Padme love triangle but Obi-Wan was into Anakin, not Padme. Holy shit that would have been amazing (assuming it was done properly).

For whatever reason (it’s probably has to do with clearing caches and some bullshit) everyone’s avatar is always up to date on my phone but about a month or two behind on my computer. That is until I hit refresh. Turns out, any avatars that haven’t been properly updated on my computer will if I hit refresh on a page on which they appear. Don’t know what that’s about.

Hard to give advice without knowing the full background of what you did to make her act this way. I’m not asking for the information as I assume that’s personal and you’d rather not say, but it makes it tough for me to say whether or not you can completely condemn her for blocking you.

The way Facebook works people who “you may know” constantly show up in your newsfeed. It’s possible, from her perspective that seeing your name brings up bad memories she’d prefer not to think about. She might have just blocked you because she just wants to forget.

No matter what it’s true she doesn’t see any reason to reconnect with you. Which is unfortunate, considering how much you want to clear things up. But, as others have said, the best thing for you to do is to just forget about it. Closure is a rare thing. Fretting over it isn’t going to help you. What’s happened happened, move on.

I’m not gay or transgender but I can guarantee you those who are would hate to see their lifestyles and struggles deemed “too controversial” to be depicted in escapist fantasy.

You know what helps these things to he less controversial? Normalization and representation. Treating people not as taboo subjects to be avoided in polite conversation but as human beings worthy of the same respect and recognition as straight white guy you and me. 40 years ago people would have raised a stink about John Boyega being the lead in an escapist blockbuster film–hell, people raised a stink JUST LAST YEAR–but thanks to Hollywood giving actors like Will Smith and Morgan Freeman a chance Boyega’s casting isn’t controversial, or not nearly as much as it might have been.

Avoiding “controversial” subjects in mainstream entertainment only continues to ostracized the oppressed and maintain the status quo. With The Force Awakens, Star Wars is now a relatively progressive franchise for the first time in its existence (even more so than Star Trek) and it would be great to see it keep going down this path with sensitivity and care.

YES!

I have a friend a lot like you, DominicCobb, and I understand this perspective, but I simply don’t see it the same way. I don’t think there’s much point in discussing it on and on, I’ve been over this topic with other people for over three continuous weeks, so I’m not really up to doing that again. If it happens, fine, I just hope it’s done well, which is my main concern. Rarely have I seen it done well other than for good press.

I understand worrying that it wouldn’t be done well, but then again you could worry that a lot of things wouldn’t be done well. At the end of the day you have to put your faith in the filmmakers.

I think the fact that you don’t see it from that perspective is probably because you’ve been conditioned to traditional male/female pairings. Not your fault, but Hollywood’s near exclusivity to heterosexual relationships has made it seem like that is what’s normal, and other types of relationships are less so. I think if there were more homosexual relationships in media you’d be more inclined to take my perspective.

In fairness, because there are less homosexual relationships in media there are less examples of homosexual relationships done subtlety and believably. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t possible.

If it’s a Finn/Poe relationship that wouldn’t be an issue. Clearly those characters have more going on than just their sexuality.

That is true, but I don’t think homosexuality should be a main theme for a Star Wars film. There are plenty of other films for that. If they are, that’s fine, but I don’t want to be hit over the head with it if that’s the case.

Would you mind “being hit over the head” with it if it were heterosexuality?

I just think Star Wars should be more inclusive.

I’d rather they focus on good characters than making sure everyone feels included. There are way too many different kinds of people, it’s simply unfeasible to achieve, because if it’s not one thing, it’ll be another.

I’m not asking for them to go out of their way to include all types of people (but the more, the better). But as I said these are good characters and giving them a relationship is not going to ruin that. If anything, it’ll only make them more interesting.

And, again as I said, they wouldn’t be bending over backwards for it. In fact, if Rey is separate from Finn and Poe throughout the majority of the movie, Finn/Poe would actually be the easiest romantic relationship for them to show and the one that would make the most narrative sense.
