What do you <em>want</em> to happen in the the rest of the ST?
Time

I’ll try to be brief as I and others have said much of this.

TFA was a fucking fantastic film (can’t wait to watch it again in a few hours!). First viewing was interesting though, because it was probably the time I least enjoyed it. Really, it was a matter of expectations. I went in expecting a lot, more than a single film could do (honestly I went in expecting a trilogy’s worth, if you get my meaning). The biggest thing that went against my expectation is, when it comes down to it, TFA is a reboot. Yeah, obviously it’s a sequel. But it’s designed and acts far more like a reboot than a sequel.

So there are certain things TFA does that I’m okay with but I don’t think VIII will or should do. First of all, I can forgive and actually in some regards really love the homages and plot mirroring. It’s totally fair in the passing the franchise on to a new generation sense, but not moving forward. The other thing is what I guess I’d just call depth - referring mainly to backstories (Knights of Ren, Snoke, the First Order vs. the Resistance, etc. all the stuff not really explained), but also philosophical and thematic depth. For TFA, as the uber fun and exciting introduction to the trilogy, it’s completely fine. But VIII’s when it’s got to get real.

That covers a lot, so I’ll just bullet the rest:

  • I think Rey should definitely be Luke’s daughter
  • If she gets a new lightsaber, it should be green (I like to believe all Jedi sabers were blue before Luke)
  • If there’s a romance, make it Finn and Poe. Not too interested in any other pairings.
  • I’m fine with a Luke death in IX, but not VIII, and no deaths for Leia, Chewie, R2, or 3PO please.
  • Don’t have any idea what Snoke’s deal might be but he’s got to have a real good deal.
  • Use Phasma more please.
  • Resistance should get a bit questionable in their ethics.
  • Rey should NOT turn to the dark side.
  • Honestly not to interesting in seeing classic Star Wars traditions broken, though I feel like I should get ready with VIII most likely picking up immediately after TFA. What’s next? Hopefully nothing too crazy.
  • And finally, can we please get a lightsaber battle in space? That’s all I’ve ever wanted.

Vader with eyebrows was a bit of a head scratch. I can only assume it’s an homage to OUROTJ. Still, this is a series that is firmly entrenched in the PT continuity (this episode especially) and Anakin clearly lost his eyebrows. And, honestly, I think getting rid of the eyebrows in ROTJ is a good change - it makes sense considering.

Also not sure if I buy the logic of hearing Anakin’s voice when the mask is damaged. And why the fuck is Vader always getting his mask broken and face exposed in EU stuff?

Hi,

Sorry about This confusing post but I just need to know This. If Leia Organa and Luke are siblings and Han Solo has had a child with Leia named Kylo Ren, how in the world Darth Vader would be a grandfather to Kylo Ren? As in the movie Kylo Ren talked to the damaged helmet of Darth Vader and referred him as a grandfather. If This post is a spoiler I’m terribly sorry.

It’s sort of the nature of the show. I might be wrong but I think honestly the only times we saw the new inquisitors was when they were facing off against our heroes. Hard to think much about them if we don’t get anything in the way of characterization for them.

I didn’t hate them but yeah fodder is the right word.

Also, I too liked the Jason Isaacs one which probably was at least 80% due to the Jason Isaacs voice.

Finale was pretty good. Sabercopters were obviously silly but what I thought was really bollocks was that we didn’t see Ashoka die. Shame.

Anyway, Season 2’s been good fun, but ultimately not quite on the level of the first. Didn’t really live up to the promise of the premiere. Still very excited for Season 3.

I don’t dislike the Rathtars but I will admit the whole sequence feels like it’s from a different film. Still, if you get rid of it you lose some nice humor and “I have a bad feeling about this” (which to me is a necessity for a SW film) Also you get the aforementioned continuity errors of Snoke knowing, Chewie injured, and also why they leave the freighter. It’s also a good scene to reestablish Han’s character.

The best thing to do is might be to cut it down (you can probably remove Finn getting grabbed entirely).

Out of interest, does anybody else feel that this film has a reality tv vibe in regards to its looks? It just deosn’t look like a film at certain points at all (I’m going by the bluray here, but I remember even the theatrical version’s last scene looked like I filmed on my iPhone). I wonder if people feel it isnt cinematic enough, or that Disney once again went retreated from what fans disliked about the prequels, only to overdo it.

Are you joking? It doesn’t look like that even a little bit. This is one of the most cinematic films I’ve ever seen.

-Removal of Finn’s yelling street slang, “DID YOU SEE THAT?!”

There is nothing about that that is “street slang” and also you’re probably a racist.

How does that make me racist? I just don’t think that kind of modern talk sounds right in a space opera that takes place “a long time ago.”

You’re honestly telling me “did you see that?” is a line that would have felt out of place in the OT? Luke easily could have said that instead of “I got him!” Was Han’s “Great kid, don’t get cocky!” not “street slang” too?

-Finn no longer whooping after hitting TIE fighter

Are you just trying to remove any sense of personality from Finn?

Just some of the dumb moments. The rest of his scenes are all intact.

What about Finn being excited that he hit a TIE fighter is dumb?

-Remove Maz’s awful line, “A good question, for another time.” (Basically, the writers acknowledging they wrote a shitty script)

More like acknowledging that providing an explanation would be pointless and unnecessary and only serve to waste time.

They could’ve summed it up in a couple seconds. Bringing it up at all without answering just isn’t necessary either.

Literally no explanation would have satisfied people like you.

-Cut out the interrogation sequence between Rey and Kylo (There’s no point to it)

Except it’s the whole reason Rey was kidnapped.

Kylo doesn’t get the chance to interrogate her.

What was he doing instead? Does Rey just escape as soon as she gets there? We never get to see her use the force before she tricks the stormtrooper?

*MAJOR CHANGES
-Color correction (Yellow finalized tint)

What does that even mean?

—Soundtrack is completely removed and replaced with music from the previous films
-Some scenes will have a complete sound overhaul (New sound mix with TIE fighters effects, etc.)

Why?

-FINN NOW SUCKS USING A LIGHTSABER

Already does.

-Removal of Finn’s yelling street slang, “DID YOU SEE THAT?!”

There is nothing about that that is “street slang” and also you’re probably a racist.

More like acknowledging that providing an explanation would be pointless and unnecessary and only serve to waste time.

-Re-insert X-Wings hovering over water shot from the trailer

Already in the movie.

-Cut down Kylo chasing Rey in the forest and put in music from EA’s Battlefront

This sequence has easily some of the best music in the film.

-Cut out the interrogation sequence between Rey and Kylo (There’s no point to it)

Except it’s the whole reason Rey was kidnapped.

It’s not a ROGUE ONE trailer or something like that, I checked (if it had been, you would already know). The credits last 11’. On album, the music for the end credits is around 7’40’’. So there is indeed 3’ of added material, at least music material :

Album track Medley:

  • Rey’s theme
  • First Order/Kylo Ren theme
  • Poe & Finn escape
  • March of the Resistance
  • Force awakening theme (Jedi steps)

Bluray end credits Medley:

  • Rey’s theme
  • Scherzo for X-Wings
  • First Order/Kylo Ren theme
  • Poe & Finn escape
  • March of the Resistance
  • Force awakening theme (Jedi steps)

So the credits have been extended, or, as I assume, just been slowed down (I remember in theater it was a little bit hard to follow the scrawl, which was passing too fast, so I guess it has been corrected) with a new track inserted into the medley. Not a big deal.

Don’t know where you’re getting these numbers from but I know that the credits music on the album is shorter than what was actually in the film. In the film the rendition of the March of the Resistance is replaced by the concert version, which adds a couple minutes. This version of the end credits medley can be found in the FYC tracks.

Concur with please let it go.

I had a big, semi-unresolved high school crush (we dated for a bit) that stayed with me into my first year or so of college. It took me awhile to get over it, but I finally did. And now, looking back, hard to see why I cared so much.

The sort of sad part is, I just started dating someone now who I think is totally amazing and, if I had just given up on my old crush earlier, I would have ended up with my current girlfriend much sooner and honestly my life would be better for it. Because looking back at all my high school crushes, they just seem pointless filler. Like I’m not necessarily saying the girl I’m with now is totally perfect for me, but she definitely is more so than anyone I was interested in during high school (even though I was sure some of them were “perfect”). So when I look back I really just want to tell my high school self “don’t worry about any of these girls.”

Point being, we often build people up in our minds to be more than who they really are, and we project attributes on to them they don’t really have. There’s a good chance DE that that girl would never have been good for you anyway. And, even if she was, there are other fishes in the sea - it’s a cliche but it’s 100% true. There’s no such thing as “the one.” In fact, there are a fuck ton of people out there who’d make good “ones.” You just got to get over it and go look.
