At this point I would even go see the 1997 SE, because all the real stupid shit didn’t go down until the 2004 release, that was the first time the theatricals and the SEs weren’t on an even playing field quality wise.

You’re not the first person to say something along these lines but I must say I just don’t get it.

All of the really stupid shit was there from the start (Jabba, Greedo [both of which got better in later versions], ronto and other Mos Eisley shenanigans, Luke screaming [removed later] ESB star destroyer bs, Jedi effing Rocks, sarlacc, etc.).

All 2004 added was new Emperor, new Boba, and new Hayden. Buuuut who really cares about new Emperor (some might call it an improvement), new Boba is pretty much the same as old Boba (I know I’ll get shit for this but it’s true), and Hayden is weird and doesn’t make sense but Shaw never made sense either.

People hate 2004 because it adds PT elements and everyone hates the PT. Buuuut they’re really nothing compared to the stain that the original SE left.

All the bad changes in 1997 combined (there are not that many that are bad anyway) cannot match Hayden insertion in terms of badness.

This might be one of your most ridiculous posts (and that’s saying something).

Just look at the capital R from the title cards for TFA and ESB. completely different

Edit: the text in the article is different from the shots from Adywan. Which is right?

Definitely ady’s. The pic in that article is fan made (notice “Has” and “Vanished” capitalized).

Ady shows that TFA and ESB’s font’s are damn near matches (looks to me like they’re the same with TFA’s just a little thicker).

It’s funny how people are going crazy over this small detail and calling it wrong when it isn’t really You’d think if people were being nitpicking about small details they’d notice a small detail like ESB’s font being “wrong” too, even though it was the first film to have a subtitle. This article even shows the two side by side but never once realizes they are the same: http://www.slashfilm.com/the-force-awakens-opening-crawl-is-wrong/

I guess when JJ and co. decided to “try very hard to duplicate” the original, they had some crazy idea to duplicate the font of the film that originated the subtitle. How dare they?

Battlefront 2 was just announced for 2017, and will evidently include ST-era content:

Yeah, I saw that the other day. Yearly-releases don’t give me much hope for the franchise, unless the lack of content (and frankly gameplay) in the current iteration was due to restrictions and it being more of a proof-of-concept than an actual game.

I’ll keep an eye on it. Maybe they’ll learn from the first one.

It’s not yearly though? Battlefront 2 will come out two years after the first. This really shouldn’t be a surprise anyway with Episode VIII coming next year.

Was Ewan McGregor doing an Alec Guinness impression? Was River Phoenix doing a Harrison Ford impression?

Nope and nope which is why they were great and why I’d be hesitant to cast someone with the credential of “does a great Harrison Ford impression.”

And “youtube impressionist” ignores the fact Gruber played a younger version of Harrison Ford’s character in The Age Of Adeline, a feature film. The guy has a resume, so let’s call him an actor. Not saying he was the perfect choice, but the powers that be ought to have given him an audition.

Sure, but who’s to say they didn’t?

If Alden doesn’t come across as Han Solo in the trailers, Lucasfilm will have a big problem on their hands.

Sure again but my point is that just because he doesn’t look and sound exactly like HF doesn’t mean he can’t still be Han Solo.

Alden Ehrenreich might very well be a great choice. Can’t say for sure. Based on what little I’ve seen of him, he’s definitely talented, but I wouldn’t immediately consider him for this role. Still, if he was cast, it’s not without a reason.

Glad they didn’t just pick a lookalike to please the fanboys. Didn’t Harrison Ford say a while back (paraphrasing) that the new Han Solo needs to not be an impression?

Pissing off the fanboys is a calculated risk though.

Calculated in that it’s not much of a risk. Fanboys will see it regardless.

In the end, the quality of the finished product is what will matter most. If Alden’s a good fit, no one will be complaining about snubbed Youtube impressionists when they leave the theater.

In case anyone could be prompted to come up with genius ideas, the weak point in my proposal is still Finn’s change of heart and return to Maz’s castle. As it stands, minus FX work, he sees the TIEs approaching, and then we next see him in the basement. Missing is some sort of telegraphing that he wants to head back.

Just add back in Han Solo watching and Finn asking “where’s Rey?”.

Don’t know if disagreeing about remaking Ghostbusters with women is misogynistic or just close-minded. Nothing about the initial premise of the film necessitated a group of guys. I don’t think making it a group of women is so much a gimmick as it is the director just preferred to work with Wiig and McCarthy and then naturally felt that the whole team could be female. The cast is talented enough. I think the more people can think outside of the go-to male action hero/comedy protagonist standard the better. Ghostbusters was going to be remade anyway, in my mind an all female team actually makes me a bit more interesting (I personally feel remakes are pointless if you aren’t going to do a new take on the material - this definitely qualifies).

I agree with what you’re saying about the cast and premise. I didn’t like the trailer specifically because it fell completely flat and appears to be wasting its talent.

Also, I didn’t say that remaking it with women is a problem, but rather the fact that they seem to be remaking it with women purely for a girl-power statement is a subject that I can understand people finding irritating. I also am generally opposed to recasting characters for such statements, much like I am opposed to making existing heterosexuals into homosexuals. Just create new material instead of rewriting the old.

Are they recasting though? Aren’t they new characters? Isn’t that new material?

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII: The Shadow Revealed (FAN EDIT BY THAT_OT_RULER) NEW PREVIEW CLIPS
Time

Strongly disagree about ROTS soundtrack. It’s the least of the bunch, in my opinion. Not because it’s bad, each track works well on their own and are obviously brilliant. Put together, there’s little cohesion. Not too mention that it’s way over the top “epic” and barely fits with the other scores. Doesn’t feel like Star Wars to me.

Anyway, besides that yeah ROTS reuses a lot of TPM and AOTC music and I feel if they’re going to reuse music it might as well be from the OT.

You really have musical timing down! Stay tuned, my music free tracks are coming along, you’ll be able to synchronize it to the original movie so you should be able to just drop it into your edit.

You magnificent bastard.

😃

I may do this for the PT as well if anyone wants me to

Yes. Yes. Yes. Please. I would kiss you if this wasn’t the Internet. You are the answer to an editors prayers.

Forgot to add that this would be a blessing to all Faneditors. I wouldn’t desire OT as much as PT and TFA though. The two films I feel could use a better soundtrack is TFA and AoTC. Thanks again for attempting this!!! As DL said, you would be the answer to every Faneditors prayers 😃

I’d actually say ROTS is the one that needs it most badly. TFA might be the last I would want.

I’m sure that a crappy girl-power movie brings misogynists out of the woodwork, so I’m not doubting that, but I think we might be disagreeing on whether or not being opposed to remaking Ghostbusters with women is misogynist in and of itself.

EDIT: Also, I would call them apples and oranges, but because TFA was a real movie that happened to have a female lead; Ghostbusters is a pointless remake with one of its main purposes and gimmicks being replacing the original cast members with women. That’s why it’s so hated.

As I said, I’m sure a disastrous trailer like this with such a goofy premise draws misogynists in from all over the internet, but let’s not pretend that this would have been received well had it been the same trailer yet with four men.

Certainly there would be hate (honestly I haven’t seen the trailer so I can’t really comment on its quality) but yes my point is that the only reason the hate is record breaking is because of misogyny. And I’m not just talking about the fringe loony bigot contingent of the internet. The world isn’t binary and unfortunately there are a lot of subconscious misogynists out there too (lot of people don’t like to admit this fact). Can’t say with any certainty how many but it’s a factor.
