I tried to write out a long and complicated fan theory, but I wound up disagreeing with myself. Whoops.

What was it?

Long story very, very short;

The Force Awakens is a sort of meta-commentary on the franchise as a whole. Rey is all the young, new fans who were introduced to SW by TFA, Maz Kanata is a levelheaded fan whose been around a while, Kylo is a crazy fanboy, Han is George Lucas, Luke is Star Wars itself.

Haha Kylo Ren is a pissy TFN type. Or wait, if Han is Lucas, then Kylo Ren is… us?

Also, not really the same but reminded me of this: http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/off-the-clock-space-opera-millennials-and-their-gr/1100-5371/

<strong>STAR WARS: REBELS</strong> (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Premiere was fine. Struck me as mostly set up. Even before hearing the title of the next episode I was pretty sure we hadn’t seen the last of that holocron (or Ezra’s dark side usage).

Incorporating elements from George’s original conception of the Force was a nice touch. I wonder with this Bendu stuff and Rogue One’s Jedha if we should be expecting some interesting revelations about the history of the Jedi in VIII.

Looks like Comcast’s people screwed up some labeling. According to the guide, Empire is on three times in a row after the prequels.

It’s to wash the taste of Prequel out of your mouth.

Did it take you two hours and 12 minutes to write that reply lol.

Edit: beaten to it by mala. Embarrassing

I didn’t see the second page. My bad. =(

If it makes you feel any better, I nearly made the exact same joke because I also didn’t see the second page.

You, me, and Dom should totally discuss these things first.

Fuck both of you I said it first so I win.

I would say that although many bad to great ideas get chucked about here.

Despite the appearance of a period, I’m still waiting for the end of that sentence.

Also, I love that you think someone making an actual Hollywood movie came here and used an idea of yours.

Are you a human being or are you something else?

http://originaltrilogy.com/post/id/758337

There is the post.

I have had a hand in a few major creative projects in an unofficial capacity. But in this instance I did not give the idea to the people who have used it. I was just talking here.

I was responsible for the scary orc thing that pops up in the graveyard in Mortal Kombat 9

and I also contributed a lot of Ideas to The re-iteration of the Far Cry game series but I am not in to computer games anymore I just can not stand them. Really bored of them.

And if you liked Half life I helped out a bit on a scene in Black Mesa for the surface tension chapter of the game where the soldier throws a satchel bomb in the pipe and it explodes. So I figured out a hackish way to make it happen.

That is probably about it really nothing that amazing but people used my ideas.

And I have gradually veered away from major productions to want to be with people who are trying to make independant productions of some kind.

Oh my god do you actually believe they stole an idea from you?

Back in the '60s & '70s, if you wanted a superhero of colour or wanted to give a white superhero a significant other of colour, you’d create new characters to fill those roles.

More often that not you wouldn’t want any character of color in those days (especially not if they were going to be in an interracial relationship or were supposed to become a successful superhero).

I wonder how long the rough-cut opening of ROTS ran - the version with Shaak Ti’s death scene, the Jedi descending through the liquid fuel tanks, and Anakin leading Palpatine along the upper guiderails of a hangar bay. Must have been waayyyy waaaaayyyyyyy too long.

I remember reading somewhere that the first cut of the film ran well over four hours. So I’d wager it probably takes a full hour to get to Coruscant.

I’d also imagine that the whole thing was nearly unwatchable because about half of it was likely overlong animatics sequences (see blu-ray extras).

BS. There’s no evidence LFL is messing with Edwards’s vision and I doubt they would be.

Hahahaha did you even read that article?

Yep. Edwards is under contract, so I don’t think he’s gonna go wild against Gilroy you know… but the final cut won’t be his.

Disney whores…

They are working together. They have worked together before. Gilroy is not a “Disney whore,” in fact he’s a better filmmaker than Edwards is.

And the guy who made Jurassic World is exactly what a “yes man” is. As long as JJ was injecting nostalgia into TFA the studio was happy with it (what happened to the screenwriter who asked for 6 more months to develop new things ? Fired… and the result on screen is an unfinished script). We are talking about Disney here; have you seen the Marvel movies ? The recent Pixar movies (fine movies, except less good than the first ones) ? What happened to John Carter ? What happened to Tomorrowland ?

Arndt was working very closely with JJ before he left. Much of what they developed made it into the film (hence the credit). But I get the impression that he never actually wrote anything. When JJ and Kasdan took over it was to finally get something down on the page and bring all the ideas together (basically to make sure there was a finished script.

This was JJ taking an even bigger role to accomplish his own vision. Disney has nothing to do with it. The Marvel films don’t utilize auteurs because Marvel wants them that way. LFL does not.

Reshoots, composer remplacement, director who won’t get the final cut, script alterations after principal shooting (“more humor”)… yep, I don’t really think there will be that much left of Edwards vision. Bullshit ? No: facts. Does it mean the movie is gonna be a failure ? Don’t know. Maybe, maybe not.

Half of this are misunderstood facts (reshoots are common place and composer change was due to scheduling; script changes are very typical as well) and the rest is conjecture.

What I find interesting is that Luke’s outfit in TFA is almost exactly his outfit in ROTJ, just colored differently.

There’s always debate as to whether the robes and tunic are actually a part of the Jedi uniform (as the PT suggests) or rather the garb of Tatooine dwellers and hermits. Luke being a hermit in TFA doesn’t help either way. Perhaps Rey’s eventual Jedi costuming will prove one way or another (though it is probably likely that she’ll keep the outfit from the end of TFA throughout VIII).

Whoof, I just realized I hope we don’t see any PT Jedi robes in the ST.

At this point I doubt it. On quick look it might seem that Luke’s robes are like those in the PT (and one might assume they would be), but like I said if you look close they’re like his outfit in ROTJ. So I think they’re on the right track.
