Thanks a lot asshole. Now I feel like slitting my wrists, and I won’t get a good nights sleep.

Frevious has been doomsaying since before there was any reason to. Now that there is… damn.

I wish I could tell you everything’s going to be okay. I guess I can just say that if things are really as bad as you think, at least we won’t be around much longer to worry about them.

But seriously though, I hope you’re not serious. Get help if you really need it.

The DP of Rogue One Greig Fraser mentions that they had a look at the 4K versions of Star Wars AND Empire in the February issue of American Cinematographer:

“With Gareth Edwards, we wanted to be attentive that the look be consistent with A New Hope, which is seared in our brains. We weren’t necessarily trying to reproduce what it actually looked like, but how we remember it — there’s a difference between reality and the remembrance of reality. Part of our research was to look at the 4K scanned versions of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. They look fantastic, but they don’t look how I remember them.”

Not sure if that means that more digital nonsense has taken place with the movies.

I’d be more likely to guess that he’s meaning the ‘colour grading’ is very different to how he remembers…

I doubt that very seriously. Color grading is not something most people outside of this forum care about.

DPs care a whole lot about color grading actually. He easily could have been talking about that.

Maybe, but if it’s the colors from the RMW 4K reel, then I doubt it because they look like everything before the DVD/Blu-Ray. Unless the colors ended up being really weird afterward of course.

Yeah but remember he said different than his memory.

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/trump-signs-executive-order-requiring-that-for-every-one-new-regulation-two-must-be-revoked-234365

This is a great idea to reduce clutter in your household, especially if you think your kids have too much stuff. Every time you buy them a toy, make them get rid of two. Or for personal use, like every time you buy a shirt, get rid of two you never wear, then donate them to a shelter or something.

Getting rid of regulations to make room for new ones doesn’t make sense because we aren’t running out of room in the regulation closet. And who decides what kind of regulations are going to be discarded by the new one? Sounds like businesses who feel like they’re over-regulated can get their problems to the top of the list by greasing the right wheels.

Stupidity is going to destroy this nation.

Idea & Info: Star Wars Deleted Scenes - Reincorporated?
Time

The fact that this never caught on as a project here has got to be one of the more disappointing things about this site in the last 5 or so years. The fact that we have so many people tripping over themselves to restore the same three films over and over again is what makes this site great, but couldn’t we divert even a little bit of that man power towards restoring the deleted scenes?

It’s a shame because it seemed like there was a solution

Here’s the changes to the script that I made.  I’m only posting the parameter variables as the rest of the script shouldn’t be messed with except to trim the clip to whatever frames you want to process. Obviously if you want a different resolution for the end product you’ll have to change it from 720x576 to whatever you want.

film restoration script by videoFred.

version with frame interpolation

modified 30 august 2010

added removedirtMC() as suggested by John Meyer

cleaning, degraining, resizing, stabilizing, sharpening, auto-levels and auto-white balance.

film=“PATH TO FILM” # source clip, please specify the full path here

#SIZE, CROP AND BORDERS PARAMETERS
#----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

X=2   # X is a special parameter for reducing the autolevels effect on the whites
X2=2  # X2 is a special parameter for reducing the autolevels effect on the blacks

END VARIABLES, BEGIN SCRIPT

#=================================================================================================================================

But then nothing came of it.

As with everything if you want something done right you have to do it yourself. So I’d love to be able to just do it myself and not have to worry about others, but the only solution I see is avisynth based and I don’t have a PC. So, if there’s a way to clean up the scenes with a Mac, let me know, please. If not, GET ON IT GUYS I know you can do it!

Look at Dom, being stingy with the cliffhangers. What a true bad ass

What are words if we don’t follow their definitions? A cliffhanger leaves the main character/plot hanging, so to speak. There are plenty examples of them without having to dip into the category of sequel hooks. They’re not quite the same thing so it dilutes the discussion to equate them.

Your favorite Specal Features and Why?
Time

My favorite will always be From Star Wars to Jedi because it was what made me want to pursue a career in the film industry. There’s really quite a few great Star Wars special features (on the PT DVDs especially - that TPM doc is great). Empire of Dreams is classic of course, revisionist history aside.

The LOTR/Hobbit extended edition features are without a doubt the best, though. Completely unparalleled.

doubleofive said:

The Lord of the Rings bonus features chronicle every step of making movies in the early 2000’s and the Hobbit ones show how they’re made in the 2010’s. Both sets are incredible cheap film schools.

Absolutely. I recently had a chance to speak briefly with Mark Ordesky (executive producer on the LOTR trilogy) and I told him how much the films and the bonus docs meant to me growing up. He said that was exactly why Peter Jackson wanted to make them - to inspire kids to want to make movies and to give them everything they needed to know about how a film like this is done.

Pretty much any feature length doc out there about movie productions is good, Hearts of Darkness being perhaps the most obvious example.

Also don’t forget commentaries. I always do but some are real gems. Ebert’s Citizen Kane is probably the best I’ve heard (and a great listen if you don’t get what makes the film so perfect).

Spider-Man 2 has a cliffhanger?

Doctor Octopus may or may not have drowned.

No. Harry finds his father’s arsenal when he throws the knife into the mirror. I don’t consider Spider-Man 3 personal canon. It’s not that big of a cliffhanger, but I’ve always found it interesting to think about.

It’s a sequel hook for sure, but I don’t think I’d really go so far as to call it a cliffhanger.

I feel like it’s becoming more likely that Trump will have a Republican challenger in 2020. I mean, I think the moment he was elected with the majority of the country hating him this was a possibility, but things have only gotten worse. Of course a lot could change between now and then, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Sasse or Graham run against him.

What numbers are you basing “the majority of the country hating him” on? I haven’t seen any specific polls or graphs or pies that lay this out. Any links?

That bit was just some obvious hyperbole. Fact is Trump has never once had a majority approval. Literally check any poll.

I wanted to give you the chance to say so, it was only fair. Look how many politicians in this country have a low approval rate and they’re still in their jobs. It’s going to take way more than hyperbole on anyone’s part to challenge his Presidency and right now the only abundance of anything I’ve seen is hyperbole.

No disrespect meant to you at all.

None taken. But Trump’s popularity is on shaky ground. For a president to start their term without a majority approval is almost unheard of. Not to mention he only had 45% of the vote to begin with. Democrats know that pretty much the only thing they need to win 2020 is someone with less baggage than Clinton. If Republicans realize that too, then we’ll see a challenger.
