Haha jesus man what is your problem?

The Empire Strikes Front
am I doing it right?
I’m hearing talk that the title will be revealed at this year’s D23, which sounds about right for a may 2018 release. I hope they go the Brian Daley route and do some version of “Han Solo and the . . .”
This would be pretty smart for a number of reasons, actually.
I have a feeling, if the film is well received, they’ll be making more.
The chosen one thing was taken from Matrix.
Nope. Lucas’ mind probably took it from THIS movie:
Wait, are you saying The Matrix DIDN’T invent the concept of a chosen one? Silly. That script has been floating around for ages.
So almost 20 years later.
Didn’t they release an alternate version of that shitty Exorcist prequel, one with a somewhat different narrative made by a different director?
Wasn’t that where they made one film and it sucked so they remade it with someone else and released it and it sucked more so they released the initial one too?
Again, very different situation.
Does the Blade Runner workprint count?
That’s a much more complicated situation, because it was shown to test audiences and was much closer to Scott’s vision than the studio influenced theatrical, so it had a history as an unauthorized director’s cut. Something like that typically wouldn’t get a release but I think it did just because the Final Cut collection was so comprehensive and it had a history with audiences.
If we ever see any early cut of Rogue One (which I doubt), it won’t be for a very long time, I think. Did we ever get to see the rough cut of Star Wars Lucas screened? Nope.
A lot of those trailer shots are just glamour shots. For instance Jyn vs Tie Fighter, Jyn in tunnel, etc
Exactly.
Not to mention earlier versions of the film were unfinished in many regards (VFX, sound mixing, score, etc.), and were likely quite a bit worse than the theatrical. Oh, and yeah, when has a studio ever released a rough cut of a film before?
Literally the only instance I can think of is Alien 3, but that’s only because Fincher wouldn’t do a director’s cut. And how much later was that?
Well, I didn’t know about that, but still they showed it at NYFF, so I don’t think the situations are very similar (I imagine that WIP probably wasn’t all that different from the theatrical, beyond being unfinished).
Maybe it’s just me, but I think it’s maybe starting to seem like Donald Trump might not have been the best choice for president?
Eh. We can crow about how justified we are and how mistreated we’ve been about the OUT, but the truth is our side can be real dicks. There’s a viciousness here recently that I don’t think is proportionate or appropriate.
I imagine there’s a sort of desperation involved. Most of us are used to it by now, but even still, when I think about the whole situation, it can make me want to scream. These are three of the most undoubtedly popular films of all time, that have had a huge impact and influence on so many films and filmmakers. The fact that there hasn’t been an official release for them in their proper form, and the fact that somehow no one in charge seems to care, can kind of drive you crazy.
What helps and doesn’t help is how much awareness of the issue is increasing through the internet. The complaints are more wide spread and louder, but that means they can also be more obnoxious. As usual, reddit is making everything worse.

Some of the conclusions you guys come to are hilarious.
The special features look surprisingly generic to me. Only interviews with the usual PR chit chat but nothing about the actual production. As it was mentioned above, there should be a real documentary like the one’s they did for the ALIEN DVDs back then highlighting all production aspects.
It was mentioned over at blu-ray.com that Edwards actually confirmed that he recorded a commentary so I’m hoping there’ll be a deluxe version later this year.
is it clear that he recorded this on his version or the theatrical version?
His version is the theatrical.
Since my last post, I’ve seen:
The Big Boss (1971)
8 1/2 (1963)
The Godfather (1972)
Somehow I haven’t seen any of these until just this week.
I don’t know how I lived before I saw these three (well, maybe Big Boss less so).
Yeah. I always contend that (beyond behind the scenes choices like who wrote the scripts and directed) the single biggest mistake that was made on the prequels was starting off with kid Anakin, for oh so many reasons.
Yeah that’s kind of a piece of shit.
WOAH DE YOU POSTING CHILD PORN HERE?
Perfect article for right now, talking about the war on PC (also a great follow up in many ways to the article about 4chan I posted the other day):

In Hidalgo’s defense, he did tweet this in response to a fan lamenting the original influential film. Why he seems indifferent-at-best towards fan preservation efforts is beyond me, especially after reading this, but whatever.

I’m just going to let cognitive dissonance take over and say that he could also be trying to deflect to make the surprise more impactful.
I doubt that. If there is an OOT release in the works, I don’t think he knows anything about it. Doesn’t really have anything to do with him anyway.

Popstar was one of the best movies I saw last year and probably the best comedy I’ve seen in a loooong time.
This is the feedback that I have heard the most.
As usual it ultimately does come down to one’s taste in comedy, but I personally will never stop recommending it.
Just seems like he’s indifferent to it.
Ol
How are you offended by alcohol?
The consumption of alcohol is abhorrent to me. Read up on why the Prohibition movement took hold.
Is the consumption of alcohol really affecting you in the way a racist remark might or do you just not like it?
It’s done a lot to ostracize me, so perhaps it is affecting me. It was just an example, I don’t want to be psychoanalyzed.
Okay I guess? Hard to understand without knowing the full picture. I suppose if people are treating you poorly because of this than I’d say that is the behavior that should change, not the alcohol itself.
Full disclosure, I don’t drink either. But that’s never really been any sort of issue for me.
